human events ^ | march 20, 2012 | Bay Buchanan

When Gov. Romney threw his hat into the ring, I was thrilled with him --a born leader, eminently prepared to be president, ideally qualified to handle the problems America faces, impeccable character and a proven conservative. Yet I am amazed how often I have been asked how a conservative like me could be with Romney.

I let them all know that I not only support Mitt, but I do so enthusiastically. And I’ll tell you why:

Not to worry dude. We'll all (or almost all) be on that happy train before Nov. You're just on board sooner than the rest here.

Yes, that conservative train will be a hap, hap, happy train! Pass the harmonica!

I’m a Mormon, and I voted for Rick Santorum in the Florida primary...you really need to get out of Utah more frequently. Most of my extended family went for Gingrich or Santorum on Primary day...we’re not all Mittbots, but maybe you knew that?

Why did he join the “pro-life” cause?

For the same reason he got rid of those illegals mowing his lawn.

No, you’re not ALL Mittbots, some of you play Santorum or Gingrich supporters. BUT 95% of you will still vote for Romney. Would you like me to cite those statistics?

It’s time for conservatives to give Mitt Romney a long hard second look.

OK, Bay. Gonna try...looking...squinting...trying to like...Nope, sorry.

Romney supported liberal democrats, he rejected President Reagan and his policies, he rejected the 1994 Contract with America. I believe the only reason he ran for the Senate as a Republican in 1994 was because he didn’t want to run for Congress because he believed that was beneath him and that Kennedy was invulnerable in the democrat primary, his wife said until he ran as a Republican she didn’t even know any Republicans. We know about his stands on gay marriage and aboration. He did balance the budget in Mass. but the Mass. Constitution requires a balanced budget, he did raise taxes even though he said he didn’t, not to mention the fees. I could go on but one of the biggest negatives he has for me is the lack of character he and his minions have displayed with not only the negativity but the lies and distortions the have continued to use in this campaign. Then there is the Romneycare obamacare thing, according to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, Romney will get rid of obamacare and then require the states to implement Romneycare, she says she knows because she will be the one to implement it. I don’t believe he has core beliefs or principles and I don’t believe he can generate enthusiasm and I don’t believe he can beat obama. Possibly because I’m just a Conservative and not “Severly Conservative”.

The only other person I know who thinks Mitt Romney is a conservative is Rick Santorum. He should get together with Bay and have a party after tonight.

Go Newt!

Bay Buchanan is a Mormon. Nuff said.

Indeed. It's interesting, when the GOP first got started, polygamy and slavery were two of their biggest issues, and some even equated the two. Mormon leaders felt like the GOP had them in their sights and they were imploring Mormons to vote Democrat.

Now the Mormons get their revenge - they are going to contribute to the end of the GOP should Willard get the nomination.

Entropy, that’s a damned good question.

I suspect the Establishment cleared the decks for Mitt in 2012 by talkjng the real contenders out of it. After all, with the GOP it’snever “who is best equipped the win and lead us”, rather it’s “who gets the next turn”?

I think you are pretty much correct on your analysis of the situation. Personally I prefer Newt in the remaining 4, but will vote for the nominee in general no matter who. I could not live with myself if I gave the Chicago community organizer any benefit whatsoever.

Newt and Santorum are both fine with me, but I’m going to pull the GOP level no matter what. No matter how bad Romney is (and I know he’s bad), he’s nowhere near as bad as Obama.

Romney may be a dishonest, weaselly, unprincipled politician, but at least he’s not a flagrantly corrupt socialist like Obama.

I certainly hope not, but my pessimistic side says it is likely.
