One conservative’s case for Mitt Romney
human events ^ | march 20, 2012 | Bay Buchanan

When Gov. Romney threw his hat into the ring, I was thrilled with him --a born leader, eminently prepared to be president, ideally qualified to handle the problems America faces, impeccable character and a proven conservative. Yet I am amazed how often I have been asked how a conservative like me could be with Romney.

I let them all know that I not only support Mitt, but I do so enthusiastically. And I’ll tell you why:

So basically you are saying Mitt Romney will say anything to an electorate to try and win their vote

So basically you are saying any candidate who will do what it takes to win is not your guy. Conservatives love losing to the rats. ABO

Oh, well, it’s a free country and she’s entitled to her opinion. In any event, there’s room for multiple points of view on some things here. This makes a better case for Romney than Romney himself, but I still won’t vote for him in the primary and perhaps not the general.

I won’t insult you but I will point out where you are wrong.

You say this is a

“drive to reclaim the GOP”

What you fail to understand is this is a drive to reclaim the COUNTRY and the CONSTITUTION.

It isn’t about Republicans and Democrats.

"The fact is that Romney is a conservative"

I would correct you if you were speaking mistakenly, but this, sir, is an outrageous falsehood, and this was willfully stated.

Well, understand the concern. flipfloppin’ Mitt’s been talking the conservative talk for 5 years now running for office, maybe some of it will sink in.
Honestly, I think he’ll be better than your low expectations ... a smarter version of GWB who actually isnt for open borders. he’ll sell out on gay issues but not on the prolife issue imho.

Our long mightmare of endless primaries will soon be over.
Mitt’s IL win makes it more likely than ever he’ll get the nomination.

Suck it up, hold yer nose, whatever it takes ... Anyone But Obama!

DINNNNNGGGGGGG!! Didn't know that. Yes, 'nuff said. Her boss and her bishop. Thanks, Bay, for dropping by.

I want a conservative. A real, principled conservative. A man with a core who can be trusted. That's not Mitt.

That comment Bill Buckley made one time about the first 2000 names in the Boston telephone book would certainly seem to apply here, too.

"ABO" is a piss-poor battle cry. You guys want to re-think that thin-blooded appeal for Bishop Romney?

"Anyone but Obama"? How about Joe Biden?

Romney would deal the nation the next David Souter, guaranteed.
He just can’t be trusted.

Mittwit does not have to have attack lines in his speech against Newt and Santorum. He has zillions of dollars in special interest money to trash both of them by assaulting our ears forty times per hour with lies in the form of negative ads. And the beauty part for Mittwit is that he claims to have nothing to do with the negativity. If Rombama is a conservative, the word "conservative" no longer has even residual meaning.

Bay Buchanan ought to be ashamed of herself. She knows better than to endorse the liberal squishball unless she has completely lost her mind (which seems increasingly likely).

Sorry, but running to the left of Ted Kennedy on abortion shows a guy too deranged to be our standard-bearer. Obama will shred him like a cat shreds a sofa.

As president he will repeal ObamaCare

This is the one thing that bothers me most about Romney.

What if the powers that be on both sides of the aisle don't want ObamaCare repealed, regardless what they say in public. What if Romney was chosen precisely because, among all the candidates, he would be the one most likely to agree with those terms. In other words, agree, behind closed doors, not to repeal it. They give him the Presidency, or at least a good shot at it, and he gives them what they want. Regardless who wins the general election though, the Bill is safe, and once it is fully implemented and passes through another Presidential term, it isn't likely it would ever be repealed.

I know it sounds a little far fetched, and it probably is, but it would certainly explain much of the behavior in this race.

Some of people here are nothing but the mirror image of the left wing radicals they (and I) hate. They can’t see the trees through the forest. They’re so caught up in some political wet dream that they’re willing to sink the country in order to achieve their party shangrila.

They talk about the Constitution but are not willing to vote for a moderate conservative that would put in a conservative on the Supreme Court. If they stand down because their man didn’t get the nod then Obama gets to stack the Supreme Court, and then it is all over. Our beloved Constitution is done for.

People need to look at the bigger picture and stop being so juvenile and selfish. Wah! If I can’t have my way I’m taking my vote and going home! Wah!

When it comes right down to it we can either save the country or damn it. When it comes time we can do our part or stand aside and watch it all burn to the ground.

Lead, follow or get out of the way. This is an unprecedented time in our history and we need to be responsible, mature, reasonable conservatives about this.

Obama’s re-election cannot stand.

The fact that conservatives would sit here and insult each other is beyond the pale. How can we beat the opposition when they’re too busy beating up each other? It’s time to grow up.

This is a conservative site. If you wish to promote moderates (liberals) and their big government policies, please go elsewhere. We are the resistance!! Don’t need weak sisters.

I’m not promoting moderates. All I am saying is whoever is nominated we have to unite in our fight against Obama. Period. That’s all I am saying. And if you wish me to leave then delete my account.
