Notre Dame Under Fire for Pro-Abortion Internships

The University of Notre Dame may be Catholic but it is once again coming under fire from pro-life advocates. Last time it was because the university gave platform to pro-abortion President Barack Obama and bestowed upon him an honorary degree.

This time, Notre Dame is upsetting pro-life groups for promoting internships for its students with pro-abortion organizations. According to Tradition Family Property Student Action Director John Ritchie, Notre Dame is offering students “summer internship opportunities” at several notorious pro-abortion organizations.

“Our majors have interned at the following organizations,” states the university’s web site, which includes:

•Center for American Progress
•Emily’s List
•Feminist Majority Foundation
•Human Rights Watch
•Institute for Women’s Policy Research
•National Women’s Law Center
•Think Progress
•United Nations Population Fund

“It’s highly scandalous for a Catholic university to encourage students to intern for groups that actively promote the sin of abortion,” Ritchie said. “For example, the Feminist Majority Foundation’s mission is to support… “safe, legal and accessible abortion, contraception, and family planning, including Medicaid funding and access for minors.”

“Other pro-abortion, anti-family groups listed on Notre Dame web site includes Human Rights Watch, Institute for Women’s Policy Research, National Women’s Law Center, Center for American Progress, and Think Progress — all pro-abortion,” he added.

Ritchie’s group is urging pro-life advocates to contact the university and its president, Fr. John Jenkins:

400 Main Building
Notre Dame, IN 46556

Notre Dame is at a crossroads of a sort. The scandal of it’s cafeteria Catholicism is now in the open and can no longer be denied.

It is time for Notre Dame to remove the word “Catholic” from all advertising and promotions of the university. If I were of Irish descent, I would also write to them and insist they remove the “Irish” identity from their campus literature.

Hey, kids, wouldn't it be fun to trample underfoot the tenets of your Catholic education by interning at Emily's List, where you could help elect pro-abort Democrat women?

Welcome to EMILY’s List, a community of progressive Americans dedicated to electing pro-choice Democratic women to every level of office.

Is the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese doing anything about this? If not, let’s get those letters rolling in.

I don’t even recognize Notre Dame anymore(my dad was a professor there 1960-65).

For that matter, the same holds true for Boston College
my alma mater.....they now have something called Gay Studies Week.

This is the result when religion becomes - literally - going through the motions of rituals and not having or practicing actual values.

"The University of Notre Dame may be Catholic but..."

Asks for a conclusion assuming facts not in evidence.

It is time for Notre Dame to remove the word “Catholic” from all advertising and promotions of the university.

It's barely there to begin with. Compare the ND homepage with the Franciscan U homepage

You can instantly tell that Franciscan is a Catholic school. The page has a logo with a church (the University chapel) and a cross. The words "passionately Catholic" appear prominently.

By contrast, the word "Catholic" doesn't even appear on ND's homepage.

This is the result when a formerly Catholic university is run by left-wing faculty indistinguishable from those at Michigan State or Illinois, and by a Board of Trustees, many of whom are not even Catholic and almost all of whom are Chicago liberals.

This is the result when a formerly Catholic university quite deliberately plots a course away from the Catholic church (35 years ago!) ... google "Land'O'Lakes statement" and compare to "Ex Corde Ecclesiae".
