GOP Rep. Chews Out Steven Chu: “You’re Telling Me My Constituents Need to Buy a Nissan Leaf?”
Gateway Pundit ^ | March 21, 2012 | Jim Hoft

Posted on 03/21/2012 4:38:34 AM PDT by Hojczyk

Representative Patrick McHenry (R-NC) gave anti-Energy Secretary Steven Chu an earful yesterday during a hearing on oil prices. McHenry ripped Che for the administration’s policies that have prevented access to domestic oil and gas. “You’re telling me my constituents need to buy a Nissan Leaf?”

"My time is short, you've listed a long list of things that this administration has done. I have not yet heard that there are trying to increase the supply of American oil or our refining capacity or limit the regulations in the diversity of blends that are required.

I have heard nothing from you today that indicates a policy this administration has put in place that will meaningful impact the price at the pumps, other than driving it up!

The policies this administration has put in place have actually increased the cost of fuel at the pumps. They have increased the cost of commuting for my constituents.

And to tell my constituents, with 10 percent unemployment, Western North Carolina, that you need to buy a Nissian Leaf? That in order to commute for 50 minutes a day you're going to have to have an employer who is wonderful enough to provide you a place to plug in your car, so you can get home? Is absolutely ridiculous.

And the anger my constituents have at the cost of the pumps is very real, and if the President doesn’t get this and if the Secretary of energy doesn’t get this then we've got a real problem here.

Obama and Chu are quite aware of the results of their policies.
In fact, for them, their policies are not draconian enough!

They don’t give a damn what the people want!

Obama is using the rapist tactic of telling the victim to “lay back and relax, you’ll like it”.

That article seems poorly written.

I wonder if the guy has any relation to Patrick Henry...

No, no, no. Your employer doesn't have to be wonderful enough.
He only has to be federally mandated.

“And the anger my constituents have at the cost of the pumps is very real, and if the President doesn’t get this and if the Secretary of energy doesn’t get this then we’ve got a real problem here.”

We’ve had a “real problem” for over three years, in the form of an arrogant Marxist ignoramous, who is only interested in punishing this country and its populace for imaginary “egregious actions of the past”. The fact that only a few Repukelicans are beginning to notice (or have grown a small pair sufficient to allow them to mention it in public), is almost as disturbing the reality of the a$$ clown infesting the White House.

What does that mean? What are you going to do about it? Write another sternly worded memorandum? The President gets it. The Secretary of Energy gets it. They've accomplished what they set out to do, and in the process made you and the other Repubs nothing more than barking poodles.

A check of McHenry’s voting record reveals he normally votes the correct way. His bark has the bite with his voting record. Am as frustrated as anyone (on this thread) though if all would vote as McHenry (just saying) there would have been no bailouts or TARP, and am having difficulty finding anything which would lead me to believe this man is not a conservative. The record is the record, and the cartridge box is the cartridge box via his vote.

That is the heart of the problem with ALL the GOP establishment hacks I think.. They think it is business as usual. they don't see that these people WANT TO bring about the destruction of the USA.

"No, no, no. Your employer doesn't have to be wonderful enough."

"He only has to be federally mandated."

What Chu and the rest of Zero's minions don't grok -- or maybe they DO -- is that the Federal mandates only mandate that employers move any jobs they can possibly move to China, India and even lower cost countries if they want to remain profitable and avoid the fate of GM and Chrysler.

The goal, I suppose, must be to have the US populated by the-long term unemployed, Starbucks baristas @ $8.70/hr and PhDs in molecular biology.

The premise is “wrong” -

you’re not going to “commute 50 minutes a day”.

You’re going to live in a “sustainable community” where you can walk to work. And making it impossible for you to commute is how we’re going to accomplish this goal.

Of course those with the education and skills can hop into their Bimmers and Mercedes and still drive, even with $10 gasoline! Or telecommute on days they don't need to be in the office for meetings.

But with no low-skill jobs, "sustainable community" = "high density - low income housing".

How did THAT "Great Society" fiasco work out? (google "Cabrini Green".)

increase the supply of American oil or our refining capacity

Our refining capacity already significantly exceeds our demand. We have been upgrading and expanding our refineries for many years. We now refine more than we use, even when only running ~83% capacity.

After all that ripping and chewing Chu walked out with the same plans to screw over Americans he always had.

Nothing changed McHenry’s constituents will believe he cares and Mchenry will go back to sitting behind his desk and doing nothing.

Relax folks. It’s all part of the show.

Wait until you drive to work and discover on arrival that overnight all the charging stations have been vandalized for the copper and you have no way to charge to get home.

It all comes down to the cost of oil which is over 75% of the cost of gas. Until we develop our own resources we are going to be slaves to the oil producers.

Pray for America
