'Global warming' gets a rebranding By: Erica Martinson and Jonathan Allen March 21, 2012 12:09 AM EDT

Shhhh! Don’t talk about global warming!

There’s been a change in climate for Washington’s greenhouse gang, and they’ve come to this conclusion: To win, they have to talk about other topics, like gas prices and kids choking on pollutants.

More than two years since Democrats’ cap-and-trade plan died in Congress, the strategic shift represents a reluctant acknowledgment from environmentalists that they’ve lost ground by tackling global warming head-on. Their best bet now lies in a bit of a bait and switch: Help elect global warming fighters by basing campaigns on kitchen-table issues.

“You don’t have to be James Carville to figure out that talking about people’s health and the health of their children … is going to make a difference to the average voter,” Daniel Weiss, director of climate strategy at the Center for American Progress Action Fund, said.

In particular, the greens are targeting Midwestern swing voters in advance of the presidential and congressional elections in November.

Earlier this month, the Sierra Club and Natural Resources Defense Council made a seven-figure ad buy in swing states featuring young children with asthma inhalers making their way through the Capitol.

“We’re going to talk a lot about the health implications of dirty air,” said Heather Taylor, director of NRDC’s political arm. “I think that the Midwest is one of those places where [there are] a million great clean energy stories, especially. And they’re not being told right now, because we’ve tended to be in other markets. That’s an area where we feel like it’s time to go tell those stories.”

Yeah, that's right, it's all about how you talk about this subject. It has nothing to do with the e-mails that were released that show that you were lying about this at all times. Or, that you were using threats to scientific journals to prevent them from publishing opposing viewpoints of scientists. No, no, it's about "branding".

Global Warming, then it was Climate Change, now it's Kitchen Table issues. Yeah, it couldn't possibly be the overreach, or the incredible amount of taxpayer money that has been wasted on this subject. The loss of liberty in the form of freedom to choose. Our own senses when looking at a huge snowfall and being told that this is what "global warming (climate change)" looks like. No, it's that the subject is too complex for us peons to be able to understand.

Good God...the air in the USA is cleaner than it's ever been, and they're going to talk about "pollution", "dirty air" and asthma as if it's some kind of crisis?

What idiots!

Global Warming, then it was Climate Change

Back in my day, it was Global Cooling and also how pollution was going to kill us all by 1984.

No, they aren’t idiots. It would be easy if they were. This is actually a very clever strategy change. Objectively, yes, there is less pollution in the US now than there has been since records started, but subjectively, people are always going to be vastly interested in issues that affect their health. That gives the progressives a lever in, and as has been proven on numerous occasions, they are very, very good at manufacturing a crisis as a means of extracting money.

*********************************************

Act 2 of the ad: The Sierra Club runs in and starts snatching the inhalers from the young children...

FDA: Over-the-counter asthma inhalers containing chloroflouorocarbons (CFCs) will no longer be made or sold after Dec. 31, 2011
Users of Primatene Mist will need a prescription product to treat their asthma

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says users of epinephrine inhalers containing chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) should plan now to get a prescription for a replacement product because these inhalers will not be made or sold after Dec. 31, 2011.

Our rich Marxists can afford devastatingly effective, dishonest commercials. There are several in which we see infants and children choking to death because Evil Conservatives have repealed "clean air laws" -- industry-destroying, poverty-creating laws that punish the working man while letting rich Marxists live their dream of riding $4,500 bicycles through pristine forests to their $175K/year hi-tech jobs and vacationing in Antarctica to watch penguins mate. Other commercials show horrified women damning the Republicans' hatred of women and Repubs' desire to enslave them.

Where are our counter ads, showing closed factories and impoverished families begging for food? IF THERE IS A FATAL FAILING OF REPUBLICANS IT'S THEIR UNWILLINGNESS TO FIGHT. This time they either fight and win or it's pretty much over for what was the United States.

I was discussing this the other day with long-time Pittsburghers. It used to be dark here at noontime from all the coal smoke. When you blew your nose your handkerchief went back into your pocket black. You could pick up dust with a magnet. White laundry hung out to dry would never come back white. Even in the 70's we used to have a number of foul odors and warnings for days when it really was dangerous to be outside if you had asthma. And I talked to a professor at the time who had measured a local rainfall with a pH of 2. The environment is cleaner than it's been since colonial times, at least.

You realize that if you conceded the ozone hole hysterics 100% of the purported effect, the increased of risk of cancer for an individual due to increase U.V. radiation would have been about the same a moving from Boston to Providence, RI.

Does anybody understand the significance of carbon dioxide in the evolution and transformation of this planet from the time it was first formed until now?

A VERY large part of the primoral atmosphere of this planet was composed of carbon dioxide. Other major components were methane, ammonia and water vapor. There was no free oxygen and no free nitrogen. None. Nada.

Yet today those two elements make up some 99+% of the air we breath in and out. What happened?

Life happened, that’s what, a fact the mongers of fear either never connected, or deny outright. Without ongoing life processes, the ratios of free elemental oxygen and nitrogen would fall, quite rapidly.

Through the magic of photosynthesis, carbon dioxide and water vapor are recombined into some form of a carbohydrate, be it sugar of some kind, or cellulose, or any of a number of similar compounds, and free oxygen. Without the presence of carbon dioxide, this process stops, and even reverses, simply because life is so persistent. The carbohydrates thus formed, are recombined with the recently freed oxygen, to recreate the original compounds, carbon dioxide and water. So no matter how much the presence of carbon dioxide is limited, the natural processes of life will restore the balance to a level that life in both plant and animal forms continually strikes an equilibrium, which has been little changed since about the time of the dinosaurs.

Which means, the attempts to artificially reduce the CO2 levels in either the oceans or the atmosphere are doomed, and futile to boot. More carbon dioxide = more plant growth, pure and simple.

Carbon dioxide is plant food. Cannot escape that one stark immutable fact. To eliminate carbon dioxide is a fool’s errand, with no return on investment.

Plus all the capital that is diverted ends up not being available for REAL progress in this world.

There is no redeeming social benefit at all to the world in pursuing this mistaken goal of “reducing carbon dioxide”.

Oh yeah, I know, I was in my 20's when the Global Cooling crowd was screaming how we were all going to die. And, it's the same people now.

Weather is clyclical. There are small cycles, there are large cycles. The sun has cycles. I was dumbfounded to discover that these people actually argue that the Sun has nothing to do with the temperature of the Earth. When I also discovered that they really never took into account the oceans or clouds, I knew that this was NOT a serious group of people. Just another bunch of lefties looking for a way to control everyone else. And, they have been successful. Hopefully, there will be some pull back on this before it is too late.

Yeah, but you're overlooking a stark, immutable fact, too, alloysteel: it takes a real or imaginary pseudo-scientific crisis to circumvent representative government and transfer a prodigious quantity of economic power to the executive branch virtually overnight. The only progress self-styled "progressives" have in mind is political, and the goal is to turn America into a larger version of East Germany.

This is actually a very clever strategy change.

We'll have to agree to disagree. From my perspective the "pollution" angle is an old strategy whose time has come and gone. I don't see how they'll get any traction with it at all given today's much cleaner air. People will laugh at their stupid commercials. (Keep wasting that money on ad buys liberals!)

IMO, we would all be shocked at how much the voice of the Global Warming trolls would be diminished if public funds were removed from the equation.

It’s my take that the street people of the Left, are by and large people on government assistance.

It’s also my take that government grants are a major problem along these lines.

The conservancy groups are gifted with land and major funding from the government.

If you want to see something chilling, Google conservancy and see the hundreds if not thousands of threats to private property rights above and beyond the federal government holdings in each state.

Look at the problems we had with the ACORN folks doing their dastardly deeds with government funding.

Strip that funding, and the Left goes almost silent.

NPR, PBS..., and for that matter our universities too. I’m not suggesting we defund universities, but if they are going to remain 90% plus Leftists, then perhaps we should rethink that too.

How many folks think the A.N.S.W.E.R. people are out there marching just because they are self-motivated to do so? IMO, they’re getting college credit and payola to participate. Government funds folks...

That would be a great ad, along with the information that the new inhalers don't work as well and cost more. But will the GOPe and its proxies do anything remotely like that or just leave the field to the Tea Party and other conservative groups who they like less than the Democrats?
