Top Romney adviser: Mitt will erase his conservative positions once he’s the nominee

Think Progress flags an amazing exchange on CNN, in which Eric Fehrnstrom, a top adviser to Mitt Romney, seems to confirm that the conservative positions Romney has been forced to take during the primary won’t be a big deal because he can simply erase them once he becomes the GOP nominee:

HOST: Is there a concern that Santorum and Gingrich might force the governor to tack so far to the right it would hurt him with moderate voters in the general election?

FEHRNSTROM: Well, I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It’s almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all over again.

There you have it. Dems, predictably, are pouncing on the remark, arguing that it validates their message that Romney has no core and will say or do anything to get elected.

Gingrich has made the point that you can't beat a democrat with a moderate republican.

Ford couldn't beat Carter.
Dole couldn't beat Clinton.
McCain couldn't beat Obama.

Seems pretty spot on to me.

Mitty is about as “moderate” as Bill Clinton.

Nahh.. 0bama gave 'Democrats' the excuse they needed to be SOCIALISTS.

By the way, when is the Congressional hearing challenging the Socialists in our Congress? Oh that's right, Socialists are IN CONTROL OF Congress and they are COWARDS for calling themselves 'Democrats'.

anything is better than Obama

Count me in. Jimmy Carter is a vicious far Left anti-Semite. But at least he was an American.

No one even knows what Hussein is or where his allegiance lies. He is a shadow man who speaks and behaves as if he has no affiliation with American and no stake in the outcome of anything he does. He has put himself under the jurisdiction of the U.N. He has said that America is no different than any other country in the world, such as France or Kenya. Obama says this kind of stuff because he really doesn't see the difference. It all the same to him.

I think he has to occasionally ask his security attachment what country he's in. “Oh yea, America that's right. We did that election thingy and now I'm the..uuuuh...urr. Yea. I remember now.”

What would you suggest we do instead

I will be doing a write in of my choosing ....I will not fix my name to what Romney will do if he attains the office of President, which would mean I support what he does..... Nope never.

“..the media is going to Dan Quayle him something fierce...”

Which is why I am praying for a hard-charger like Allen West to break with the Gaggle of Ordinary Politicians and make an indie run. His chances of losing would be no greater than are Romney`s.. and he could generate a huge amount of excitement among conservatives.

I`ve given up on the GOP.

Romney governed as a Massachusetts liberal. In his present campaign he ran as a moderate with a few conservative positions. I have never thought Romney was sincere or principled.

Once he’s orange, he can take his rightful place as the Republican John Kerry.

Is it “agitprop” when Romney's principle media adviser is interviewed live on CNN?

yep, exactly.

I have never seen anyone so intent on being added to the long list of moderate republican losers.

We need to all pitch in and buy Romney a T-shirt that says...

I spent 400 million, and all I got what this stupid T-shirt... and on the back it has:

The List of Great Republican Moderates:

HW Bush
Dole
Mccain
Romney

Once again, the GOP along with the MSM have picked our candidate. With Fox News and the likes of Coulter, Drudge, we are looking at getting another liberal candidate for the GOP nomination.

This clip shows how the elite media frames the public conversation on who is electable.

Mitt will erase his conservative positions once he’s the nominee.

If that becomes the case conservatives will just stay home and Obama will win. (This will end the America you knew once upon a time.)

Pretty much every election both Republicans and Democrats run to the edges during the primary and return toward the middle to pick up General Election moderates. Is this really shocking to anyone?

Magritte gives the history of campaigns from the beginning. IIRC, even Reagan ran to the right of everyone in 1980 and then just basically showed America what an incomptent boob Carter was (is), and won.

Of course Reagan had been campaigning as a right-center thinker for years...something Romney has only been doing for the past four or five.

But I think Magritte's point is still valid.
