... the largest and most well-funded Tea Party group has now dropped their opposition to Romney...

Freedom Works is not a tea party group.

It's an opportunistic organization which has attached itself to the TPM in order to make money and policy while feigning Tea Party Movement principles.

And to be seen as "leaders" of the TPM much like the Tea Party Patriots.

I agree with you, and I've been very suspicious of them from the time I first heard about them. Too much Koch brothers/libertarian money, and the Koch brothers would not have been putting money into them unless they were getting a return out of it in some way. They astroturf like crazy and have their hands in too many things.

I'll quote myself from January of 2011 in a FR thread about third parties going through the Tea Party movement:

I don't necessarily believe it should be through the Tea Party movement though - I'm not comfortable with the Koch brothers putting so much money into certain groups within the movement, because they are going to want something for their money. They are very shrewd and they don't give away money lightly.

My gut feeling was that the Koch brothers were doing what they can to get themselves in deep with the Tea Party movement so that they could hijack it if the needed to. If you go out and look at how many Freedom Works-sponsored Tea Party groups and events are, there are a lot. If you expand that to groups loosely associated with Freedom Works (probably financially supported by FW) it grows.

The Koch brothers maybe libertarian, but if they thought Romney would help them out, they would toss aside their principles in a heartbeat.
