Why don’t they fire a white phosphorus grenade into this flat, torch the guy and end this thing?

You really believe every neighbor in the block wasn't evacuated hours ago? Really?

Not necessary. The police snipers probably already have him scoped out and are only waiting for the order.

I hope they take him alive?

NAW....shoot him?

Or even better, throw him in a room, cuffed, with the parents of the children he murdered?

I guess that would work if he's dumb enough to stand in front of a window.

Interesting. Early reports after the murder of the RAbbi and his sons, and the young girl, were that it might be a right wing plot, at least on US TV and newspapers. All fingers were pointing to a “nationalist group” targeting those they considered “outsiders....

I guess I’m a racist, I automatically thought it was an Islamist loon...

It’s not Philly - it’s France, you’d never notice the difference. Besides, you’ve got to break a few eggs to make an omelet.

It's actually: “Groupe D’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale” ...but that's trivia and you're correct they have a reputation for being serious operators.

Over two decades ago I remember reading that the GIGN were rather unique amongst special operators, in that they adopted the .357 magnum “wheelgun” as a standard sidearm. After a quick check, I see they currently carry the French Manhurin MR73 double action revolver chambered in .38 Special/.357 Magnum. According to Wikipedia the GIGN currently uses scoped 8- or 10-inch barreled versions of the MM73 for tactical purposes.

In the case of Mt. Carmel, the US Government was the terrorist child executioner.

Thus in neither case were we dealing with a single terrorist cornered in a single apartment with plenty of time to evacuate any nearby citizens. Thus, the situations had nothing in common. Burn the sucker out.

Did he barricade himself in an armed standoff with police?

Your original post said that the police should fire a WP grenade into the flat and torch the guy.

Are you saying that the only purpose of the WP grenade was to get this terrorist to leave his flat peaceably so that he could face trial?
