"...The use of smart bombs, confirmed to The Associated Press by four senior Philippine security officials, marks a new chapter in the long-running battle against an al-Qaida-linked movement in the southern Philippines..."

If true, I don't see anything wrong with it.

If true, more power to them in smoking them out.
In my three years here, I have yet to see a Muzie, but I
am well aware of the problems that they cause in eastern Mindanao, 300 km from me.

I read the Filipino weeklies and there are at least 2 US Spec Ops FOB’s in the Southern Philippines, which also includes housing Aussie Spec Ops as well.

This came from a “side story” from an article that reported the rise of the sword-making industry which ranged from medieval swords to samurai swords which accidentally started by American soldiers in the area buying them and sending them Stateside. Now that town exports the same swords to Hollywood and the UK, as a hobby.

At least they’re using more modern OV-10’s instead of vintage weaponized T-28.

I love things that go boom in the night, esp. against Islamic terrorists.

Like John Lee Hooker, I’m singing “Boom, Boom, Boom!”

I can’t see the downside to this.

Al Jazeerah (whose english website is full of lefties) had a story that it was a “drone” attack. If so, it would have been illegal. Americans can use drones to spy and give the information to the Philippine military, but they are not allowed to join in combat.

So now we find it is a “smart bomb” dropped by our own Air Force. Good.

And the headline on the Manila Bulletin is that the President is requesting more American military help (partly as a way to scare China which is trying to steal the Spratlys from the Philippines and VietNam).
