Obama’s Outrageous DOL Rules Will Restrict Minors From Working on Family Farms – Killing Farm Life
gateway ^ | March 21, 2012, | Jim Hoft

Barack Obama is committed to killing off the family farm – an American tradition.

For generations children and adults have worked together on the family farm. Those days are over.

Senators John Thune (R-S.D.) and Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) today introduced the Preserving America’s Family Farm Act, to prevent the Department of Labor (DOL) from enacting its controversial proposed restrictions that would ban children from working on family farms.

Senator Thune spoke out against the Obama Administration’s proposed labor rules for youth who work on farms and ranches on the Senate floor.

The Obama Administration’s rules are so strict they would restrict minors from handling most animals and even from using battery-powered screwdrivers.

If the federal government can regulate the relationship between parents and their children on their own family’s farm, there is virtually nothing off limits when it comes to government intrusion into our lives

Zero is only trying to create shovel ready jobs. What easier way is there to do it? You have to figure that those children are stealing jobs from ________.

That was what they were designed to do: Kill farm life as we know it.

For that matter, obama was put in office for the sole purpose of destroying the United States as it now is. And at this, he has been 100% successful.

I had to read the last line of your excerpt twice to make sure it didn’t say something about farm animals using power tools.

Anyway, when I was a growing up a lot of the “minors” would go work the tobacco fields in the summer here in CT. Wicked hard work but the pay wasn’t too bad. I don’t know if they still do that but if the can’t employ the kids to do it, what’s the alternative? Illegal farm hands? Maybe that’s what the boob is after.

Its really an assault on food production.

Scarce farm labor will already be made even more scarce. Who will it benefit? Illegals? It certainly won’t increase production of food products.

I used to read about the Ag. policies of the Soviet Union and China and naively think, “how could they be so stupid?” I realized only much later that their policies weren’t about production or efficiency, it was about control and politics.

Obama is no different.

I worked on my grandfather's tobacco farm from the time I could do something useful...As I got older, baled hay fro my great uncle, and being permitted to operate equipment was a rite of passage which not only gave us incentive to be responsible youngsters, but taught us valuable skills which have proven useful since in other fields.

Not to mention instilling a work ethic, that generally, the more you did, the greater the reward...as well as ultimately a dependence on Divine Providence.

Is 'Hand me the 9/16 wrench.' going to become a crime instead of an opportunity to teach fractions?

I have never been able to find the quote again but I’m sure I read somewhere that Stalin said that when the people get hungry enough they’ll take anything you give them.

I think that’s exactly where Obama wants us - hungry and begging him. The man is a monster.

And what does the “opposition” party do? They introduce legislation to overturn it. Yeah, that’s gonna’ work.

The reason the government is doing this is so the farmers will have to hire more Mexicans. This will force more farmers to sell and all the farm land will be owned by a few select corporations AND controlled by the government.

I think that the main reason is to replace children/teens and young relatives as farm workers with immigrants, legal and illegal, who will eventually become citizens and democratic voters or who will produce U.S. born children who will do the same job.

I personally made summer spending money picking fruit in the orchards of neighbors. I have never seen any kind of really bad accident even when we were using what would now be seen as unsafe 12 foot ladders to get those last cherries.

With this administration, it is always about politics, and its politics includes forming a permanent dem majority—that can't be done by any other method.

Obama can’t have the last vestiges of American family farms get in the way of his collective farms manned by Democrat Party approved workers. Nothing like good ol’ Communist run farms to knock down food production and control the population’s food supply.

They can't. They'll be happy with the damage they do until they're finally busted by the SCOTUS, ten to fifteen years from now. By then, most of the farmers will be toast. To get the rest, they'll tweak the rules just a bit to accomplish the same thing and force the farmers to sue again to stop them. Bureaucrats have plenty of your money with which to wait out their hosts.

Obama and his handlers are all city born urbanites that consider hard work to be what you do when you go door to door asking for money to help organize the community. People outside the urban environment are just country hicks that need to be marginalized as racist hang overs.

No sense getting minors involved, right? Farming shall end with today's seniors because the 'farmer of tomorrow' is the GOVERNMENT. This is just ONE of the objectives of the U.N's 'Agenda 21'.

There is evidently no end to the good that the federal government can do when we have achieved a proper understanding of the true scope of the Commerce Clause, even regulating the relationship between parent and child.

Your point is well taken, but suffering a bad injury by driving a tractor is almost unheard of ... in fact, the darn tractor drives itself with GPS and my son sits there relatively bored. Any injury by an implement can be explained as an everyday accident, no work involved.

Government attempt to control the food supply , add MIchelle Obama's talk of food deserts. They will look for a ways to control the supply and distribution in the name of justice, fairness or climate change

Don't be surprised when they do. A family member of mine had some cows get loose late one night. They passed by his back door on their way toward the silage. He jumped in his truck and escorted them back to where they had broken the fence. Once across, he jumped out of his truck and proceeded to repair the fence by headlight. Suddenly, multiple sets of headlights came flying down his driveway - a back drive that privately led to the back side of his father's farm (the farms were adjoined). They arrested him for shining deer, confiscated his truck and his rifle which was in its holder in the back window of truck.

It took a year to get the charges dropped and several years to get his possessions back.

I worked on a number of farms as a kid. The most onerous thing I did was picking the dead chickens at a chicken farm.

Didn't do me a bit of harm. In fact, I now have skills that I'm sure all of the metrosexual, citified, neutered bunch of guys I work with wish they had.

Guy I work with recently just paid his lawnmowing service (pay to get your lawn mowed? but that's another story....) 100 bucks to trim a small embankment at his house.

Thinking that maybe his trimmer was broken, or he didn't have one, I offered to let him borrow mine. His reply? "Nah, mine is just fine. I just don't like to do it."

I've seen the "embankment" he had "trimmed". Might take me 15 minutes to do, if I worked slowly and had a hard time starting my trimmer up. Sez me, I'm in the wrong business.

And....I'm cringing at the thought of telling my uncle (who owned one of the farms I worked on) "Nah, I just don't feel like doing that incredibly simple task. Can I just give someone 100 dollars to do it for me?"

This is what it’s come to. Congress shovels money and “rule making” authority at the executive branch then walks away because they don’t want to be held accountable themselves. It’s easier to be defensive, act outraged and point fingers when what they’ve given away is abused.

Well, you know the expression, “There but for fortune...” The government has had the power, for many years already, to intervene, to come onto your property with the backing of a judge and the escort of a policeman, to inspect your property and question your parenting and take your child into custody. They now have a few more justifications if they need any, which they don’t.
All it really takes is one person with any comment at all against you. True or untrue. They just phone it to the child protection agency in your area and you are screwed.
Nobody in America is doing a blessed thing to fight this, as far as I can determine. Even judges I’ve discussed it with, are afraid of child protectors.
