With President Obama's approval rating hovering at 49 percent according to the latest Rasmussen tracking poll, it is becoming increasingly clear that he is a formidable threat for re-election. Gas prices are through the roof; the economy remains in shambles; the situation in the Middle East has never been so tenuous. And yet nearly half of all Americans think Obama's doing a decent job. Which shows that nearly half of Americans are either dependent on the government or devoid of common sense or both.
It gets worse for conservatives. Obama's lead in Virginia has been growing, not shrinking. The latest Quinnipiac poll has Obama beating Romney 50 to 42 percent. In Ohio, it's no better -- the most recent polls have Obama up by 12 points. In Florida, Obama leads Romney by a 46-43 margin.
It's still early. But Republicans had better figure out some new strategies or they will be left in the dust by the highly-organized, beautifully-tuned Obama campaign.
Conventional conservative wisdom says that the Republican nominee will be fine come November. The economy is bad, say the pundits, and therefore Obama will lose as a matter of course. There's only one problem: That's never happened before. Bad economies help Democrats. That's because the unemployed typically want more government care, and the currently-employed tend not to think the economy's all that bad.
Triangulation is also troublesome. Seizing the middle in this election cycle will be difficult, since Obama has staked out a record of not raising taxes, leaving Guantanamo Bay open, and "cracking down" on Wall Street. Even if we recognize that Obama's record is deeply leftist -- his spending, his appeasement-oriented foreign policy, his dislike for traditional American values -- we will have to convince the American public that he is radical. That's an uphill battle in the face of a heavy media assault.
The biggest problem of all is that Americans seem to like President Obama personally. He can be charming; his family is certainly beautiful. He is also vain, rude, arrogant and nasty, of course -- but the media has covered up those characteristics. Despite his political approval ratings varying widely over the last several years, Obama's personal approval rating has never dropped -- it has remained high throughout.
Therein lies the problem.
It's a problem that can be laid at the feet of John McCain, who refused to define for the American public just who Barack Obama was, preferring instead to attack his arguments. That's a mistake in a presidential election, where you have to define the personality of your opponent before attacking him on policy.
Conservatives cannot make the same mistake in this election cycle. They must define for the American public just who Barack Obama is. Who is he? He's a man who never met a radical he didn't like. He's a fellow who thinks that American society is irreparably racist, irrationally bigoted and immoral beyond measure. He believes that fundamental change is necessary because America is a fundamentally nasty place.
When we seek to vet this president, we must look at all of him: not just the pretty pictures and not just the obvious policy failures. We must figure out what makes Barack Obama tick. It's only once we do that that the American people will know their commander-in-chief fully enough to lose faith in him. And he richly deserves that loss of faith.

McCain put zero in the Whitehouse. I still don’t understand why.
McCain could have won had he not allowed his handlers to restrain Palin.
Bragging on Obama didn’t help matters,too.
Oh, and calling an emergency meeting that made him appear like a incompetent old man on parade prolly didn’t help either.
Basically, if McCain would have dropped out...we probably would have won.

“How to Beat Obama”
It appears a stick would be the most likely candidate at the moment.
The other necessity is to pull away from the left the mantle of being the educated and well-reasoned segment of society. Reagan's ‘there you go again’ was a wonderful way to dismiss the credibility of the left. We need to characterize the left as out of touch ideologues who value ideology more than reason. Alinsky was right about the effectiveness of ridicule.
Romney, if he is the nominee, will give Obama his second term.
This has been a Party suicide MO - not just from John McCain; but from RNC/GOP and likes of Karl Rove since Bush 'Lied and People Died' - and Repubs responded with a reach out to Teddy Kennedy; got slapped; big time; but we kept 'smiling' and kept our hand out.
No question the 'truth prevails' but only if you TELL it. And of course, the only Candidate willing to do just that is Newt Gingrich; and guess what RNC/GOP 'establishment' did to him!
It is a travesty of ignorance to behold. . .
No matter how much lip stick you put on a pig, it's still going to be a pig.

The Republicans must make the American people understand the Obama poverty dynamic. Massive deficit spending, record borrowing, huge unsustainable debts,dollar printing, unfunded liabilities,a bizarre war on carbon energy sources and a devotion to green fantasies, a torrent of business killing rules and regulations. Spending borrowed money only gives the illusion of prosperity but creates no real wealth. The Republicans must get what is left of intelligent voters to understand this sad dynamic. Otherwise a billion dollar reelection fund directed at muddled voters in battleground states and massive fraud will reelect this horrible man.

It makes me want to puke when reading these kind of pieces from self-righteous worthless sorts like Ben Shapiro. In his closing remarks he admonishes everyone to fully vet Obama on every matter possible and find out who he is, then when asked about his eligibility in a recent interview he says he is not going there, he has not seen anything to cause him to investigate the issue.
God only knows what obama will do in Term 2. If Term 1 is any indication of what more is to come, I truly fear for my children and grandchildren. I'll take my chances with a rino if it means a vote against the America-hating, racist, black theology, commie POS in our WH. I don't want the results of Hussein's second term on my conscience.
Despite; McCain's strong points; his refusal to even 'say' Obama's middle name - following Dem prescription (sure; for them) that it was 'racist'/politically incorrect) only highlighted the failings of McCain's political values. We ran against a 'myth' of the Left's creation; and never allowed the truth of the man, to be told.
(And when and where the truth of Obama was told; the REpub Party was 'elsewhere' - distancing itself from the 'tin foilers' and racists (so called).
(They did not even stand up for the Swift Boaters when Kerry was running.)

Obama is dumber than donuts.
Agree absolutely; that there is NO alternative but to support whatever Repub is left for Ballot. Those who refuse; are allowing a 'vote for Obama'. Do not understand how; in light of threats we face (like 'last election' for example - and why not - from Obama) how ANY Republican - or any informed citizen,for that matter - can refuse to step up and at least keep our Constitution- and Capitalism - and Patriotism - in tact; so that probabilities for that 'better day' does come.
Actions have consequences; and 'not voting Republican' IS an 'action'. And one that is guaranteed to have devastating; irreversible consequences for our Country.
