I’ve looked at quite a few reports now, thank you for your suggestion tomkat. One could charge bias against any source so I won’t depend on any in particular. The largest collection of links I could find in one place is on Martin’s wikipedia entry, though I will not vouch for a single one of them.
That said, I see nothing that convinces me that Martin was a thug. He had not stolen anything, and Zimmerman was not seeing him burglarizing any place, or committing any other offense, when Zimmerman called 911 to say that Martin was walking and looking around. Then he said Martin took off.
I’d take off too if Zimmerman were following pedestrian me in his vehicle. In the dark. I’d have felt threatened.
The dispatcher told Zimmerman the police were on their way. Then, apparently, Martin did not take off successfully for they were again in close proximity.
Zimmerman had been safe in his truck from the person he was following, but then he was out of his truck.
What occurred next is disputed and not yet clear one way or another, except that Zimmerman shot and killed Martin.
Now, the way I see what IS clear: nobody had just committed a crime in the neighborhood, nobody had reported one, nor was Zimmerman personally aware of one, nor was he looking for a culprit for any particular offense; Martin wasn’t breaking any laws when Zimmerman started following him, nor when Zimmerman called 911, nor when Zimmerman re-encountered him after he “took off;” Zimmerman could have stayed in his truck rather than follow someone doing no wrong; and Martin is dead.
By the way, according to police, Martin had no criminal history, so if you call him a thug you ought to tell us why you think so, and what you know that the police don’t.
I don’t know enough yet, and neither does anyone else. Nevertheless it seems quite clear that Martin was minding his own business that night and Zimmerman was not; and that Martin was minding his own business one minute and dying the next.
So.........adios.

There are several recordings of the several 911 calls made that night by residents. Bottom left of the page at link.
The third recording has the title “There’s just someone screaming outside.”
In this recording you hear screaming and then a gunshot.
Bearing in mind that there are two people in an altercation; one has a gun and the other has a can of iced tea and a bag of Skittles...
Listen to that recording and ask yourself which one is screaming like that.
The question to be asked is...Who was the aggressor...the kid who was walking 'home' from buying candy and who ran away from the guy who was following him...or the adult with the gun who stalked the kid in his car then got out to look for him when the kid ran away?
I've seen plenty of fights where the instigator bit off more than he could chew and got whupped...happens all the time.
The next question is...where was the gun?
Did Zimmerman have it out already?
If, as people here avow, Zimmerman was flat on his back being pummeled by Martin who was on top of him, how did he pull the weapon?
Another question...how far was Martin from Zimmerman when Zimmerman shot him? Close enough for GSR on his clothes?
Too many people here willfully ignore the known facts that Zimmerman was the aggressor for the period that was recorded and that Martin ran. They want us to believe without any substantiation that the roles reversed and Martin became the aggressor and Zimmerman the helpless target.
That screaming I heard on the 911, an instant before the shot, was not the kind of screaming you hear from a man with a gun confronted by a man with tea and skittles.

Legally you're right. Justification is important, but I stand by my point that the whole thing has gone way beyond the legal question and has become an exercise in just how many blacks can play the phony victim card.
Let's examine two incidents: Zimmerman and Strait. In the Zimmerman incident a black yout was shot by a person that it appears that he was in the process of beating. Black killed = black crocodile tears and black lynch mob headed by filth like sharpton baying for Zimmerman's blood.
Strait case. 85 year old white woman raped and beaten to death by black yout. Total US media silence and total "black community" silence. Or to phrase it another way. when what may indeed be a justified killing of an alleged thug, the blacks push their own texas sized chip of their own shoulder, and when a black scumbag kills an old white woman they just don't care.
Last I read, no suspects have been found, questioned, or arrested in the Oklahoma case. When/if they are, it is doubtful that they will try to claim that their actions are justified or that the injured parties somehow deserved it.
IF they do claim their actions were justified,
and IF the police agree with them and let them go,
and IF the DA reviews the police decision and declines to press charges,
and IF there is no public outcry as a result,
THEN you will have a valid point about the media silence.
Until all of those things happen, you're comparing apples and oranges.
Sage advice. Woulda saved Trayvon's life...and prevented the fallout from his death.
And also saved Zimmerman from going to prison. Because he is going even if they have to trump up a charge.
