Ummmm, yes. Baptism doesn’t ENSURE salvation.
"If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation". (Ro. 10:9-10).
Basically this is what the "sinners prayer" is all about. Note that baptism is not required for salvation in this verse!
Baptism had not been instituted at the time the thief asked for forgiveness.
Thus you are saying the only difference between salvation under the old and new covenants is the added requirement of baptism under the new covenant. I don’t buy that at all.

Nope. You are still confused. I didn’t say or even imply any such thing. Baptism was not the only new requirement. So is repentance and confession. As you know - those were not required under the Law.
I wish I had a handy reference available to help you understand how Abraham, Moses and the Prophets were saved and sanctified even though Christ had not yet died for their sins, but I don’t. But even so... that is something you really ouught to read up on.
Whether or not you believe in baptism or not, we all need to understand how the blood of Christ flowed two ways at Calvary. Backwards to save those under Law. And forwards to save those under Grace.
And again - leaving baptism out of the equation - the theif died before the Cross.

Cherry picking your way to Salvation doesn’t work, friend. As I said upthread - I can show you dozens of examples and commandments to be baptized.

Take a minute and read the replies. It seems you may be confused about the theif on the cross and how he became saved without being baptized.
It’s very simple really. So read the replies.

Not just the transgressions you approve of. I'm glad the God I serve is more merciful than that. He is to be feared, but in exchange for my devotion and belief my sins will be washed away.
I don't approve of Casey Anthony or the lifestyle she led. And I am not to judge whether her appeal to God is genuine or not. But if it is, her sins will be forgiven just as Christ died for the sins of all.
You know a very different God than I do. Christ can and will forgive every sin repented of, confessed, and looked to Him for salvation. There is no sin so heinous it can separate you from God if you ask forgiveness in Jesus Christ alone
We could start reciting all the scriptures relating to the matter. Here is one I like..
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Interesting. Doesn’t Christianity clearly allow for repentance and salvation, no matter how heinous the crime? I do know that a murderer such as her would most like go to the Jewish Hell, but would come of it pure and able to rejoin her child.
Nancy Grace baptised her “Tot Mom.” Grace has a huge audience and the nickname stuck. Just for the record, I think Tot Mom is as guilty as hell and will walk around Purgatory for a few years before she gets inside the Pearly Gates.
I know this passage doesn't specifically mention murderers, but the Apostle Paul never shied away from the fact that he was one.

"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." We all only deserve to fry in Hell. That's why we need a savior. That's why Jesus had to die for us.
I would say that both James 2:26 and John 15:5 refer to what we do AFTER we are saved!

King David was both an adulterer and a murderer, yet he was “a man after God’s own heart.”
People who carve out any one sin and claim it is especially deserving of hell underestimate the depth of their own sin. They misunderstand how grievous even one sin is in the eyes of God. But our outward acts aren’t our real problem. Our problem is one of nature. We aren’t sinners because we sin. We sin because we are sinners BY NATURE as a result of the fall of Adam, the federal head of the human race. Sin has infected every iota of our being and all of creation. In the Psalms it tells us that we are conceived in iniquity, which means that we are guilty before Him before we take one sip of God’s air. We are guilty because we inherit our daddy Adam’s sinful nature.
Christ came to save SINNERS (like me). He came to seek and save that which was lost.
God is supremely fair and just. We can count on that. But he has promised in His word that he will not clear the guilty because it would be a violation of His holy character, a violation of justice.
I’ve also thought much of what it might be like to die and discover that loved ones were never saved. Scripture says that the destruction of the wicked will be cause for celebration among the righteous. Using our fallen minds that’s hard to imagine. I can study it and believe it from the Word, but right now it’s hard to picture cheering as men are cast into eternal hell. I am sure it will magnify what He did for those to whom He extended mercy. I can also envision that the true horrid nature of the lost sinners will be apparent in a way that it’s not now. All I know for sure is that it’s a scary and sobering scene to contemplate from my earthly vantage point.
Biblical ignorance is a blight on this nation. I fear the enemy has fooled many in our day into believing they have been converted. There are many who have been baptized, yet they are one heartbeat from hell.
