Santorum Suggests Obama Preferable to "Etch-A-Sketch" Romney.

Rick Santorum's latest attempt to use a Mitt Romney aide's "Etch-A-Sketch" remark against the Republican front-runner instead gave his rival a chance to fire back on Thursday, after Santorum seemed to say he'd rather see President Obama reelected than send Romney to the White House.

Speaking at an event in Texas, Santorum again made the case that Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom's comments Wednesday on CNN about a "reset" of the campaign if Romney clinched the nomination showed the former Massachusetts governor's efforts to appeal to conservatives were insincere.

"You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," Santorum told a crowd in San Antonio, according to NBC News. "If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate of the future."

Exactly the same message my Catholic priests and nuns taught us in Catholic schools about criticizing the Catholic leaders. Except they didn’t say it was wrong, they told us it was a “sin” .

You have to remember Bush, Sr. fired everybody in the Reagan White House after he was elected. Romney will not be asking Newt to work with him. Romney is the bluest of the blue blood Republicans. A grass-roots conservative reformer of middle class origin like Newt is anathema to him. There is nothing in Romney’s real agenda that has anything in common with Newt’s. It’s more likely they’d be in direct conflict with each other.

the way romney so cooly and calmly ordered a hit on Newt in florida, to destroy him, not debate him, makes me think you are absolutely right. Though, Newt being in direct conflict with Romney while romney is in office is what I have been thinking about. Like using the first 4 years of the romney term, to develop and procreate a true revolutionary conservative movement.

I have been reading up on "taking it to the convention" since I knew nothing about that, and it seems Reagan did that to Ford... took on a sitting President. I have a feeling Newt would find real joy leading that kind of movement, and wouldn't necessarily have to be its candidate.

He loves the young conservatives, and he might see such a thing as a true legacy for himself - another band of merry revolutionaries in the image of breitbart and Newt. I would be in bigtime.

Both Newt and Santorum are excellent conservative candidates based on their history in government.

Newt certainly has some strong points that shouldn’t be overlooked....but so does Santorum. (I actually like his honesty.)

In any case, he did say essentially that a liberal flip-flopper is no better than any other liberal.

He’s right.

Sometimes I want to facepalm hard enough to give myself concussion when Santorum answers a question on social issues, but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he answers honestly as to his beliefs and opinions.

Just wish he’d phrase things better! The MSM is not ready for an honest politician.

Yeah, sometimes I wonder if we really are out to make them believe that we are indeed 1800 retreads.

The Democrates have always been very keen on getting in contact with the youth so as to adopt their language. Hillary pulled a stunt like this when she wore that NYC cap, while her, like Obama, were never residents of their respective state, or, in the case of OBama, never a natural born citizen.

No, no, no. You have to have just a little more faith in America and Americans. I am not asking you to go all pollyanna, but don't collapse into cynicism that way. God hasn't given up on America yet, don't you either. Maybe you just need to chill a little, and your perspective will get better. We can do this. and I hope you will help.

If you were around as an adult in 1968...and somebody said to you back then:

ALL: I can see it now...
...it's the year 2012...
...the GoP party has a candidate to the left of JFK & Lyndon Johnson...and we have your kids -- kids who now say "anybody is better than 'welfare-state' Johnson"...
...They'll come aclamorin' "anybody is better than the Democrat"...
...and they'll push the guy who's to the left of Johnson!!!

....Would you have responded in 1968:
No, no, no. You have to have just a little more faith in America and Americans. I am not asking you to go all pollyanna, but don't collapse into cynicism that way. Your encouragement to "chill a little" wouldn't change the "eventual" Romney reality, would it?...nor would it have altered that "perspective," would it?

No. Instead, what we have is knee-jerk "trainers" & "mentors" of the next generation...people who reflexively will always communicate to the GoP establishment: "It doesn't matter who you send us. It doesn't matter what they believe or how often they waffle. As long as he has an (R) 'identity' -- and as long as he can beat the (D) guy, you have our eventual personal endorsements...even if we bellyache about it for a while."

I will support the GOP all the way. I am 77 this month and have never missed an election, I come from a long line of conservative voters.
I would like to see Newt spring to the top, but seems like it is just not happening.

You liberals/dermocrats’ and your silly campaigning for Obama has no effect.

All that you liberals say means nothing.

This might have been before your time. It's about the Alamo, in San Antonio. This movie, one of many about the Alamo, was 1960.

I don't get all the uproar.

We currently have a liberal with a “D” behind his name.

How will America be better off with a pro-abortion anti-Reagan liberal with an “R” behind his name?

Pro-Romney RINO’s, you may now began flaming me.

RE :”And you never did address the documented national security concerns re moon habitation and bases for military purposes. Newt has the vision to look down the road, it appears you don't.

Just like I didn't for the Obama Pie in the Sky nonsense he pushed in 2008, or the for the ‘Green energy will save us’ nonsense Newt pushed a few years ago with his friend Pelosi. Wasn't Green energy claimed to be a national security issue too back then? That didn't make it work either.
