McCain decries GOP fight against Obama mandate: ‘we need to get off that issue’

March 22, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Former GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain has criticized his party for waging a “war on women” based on their reaction to the Obama administration’s mandate that will force religious institutions to pay for contraception, abortifacient drugs and sterilization.

In response to a question from Meet the Press moderator David Gregory , who asked if there was “something of a war on women among Republicans” during an interview Sunday, the Arizona senator said “we have to fix that.”

“I think that there is a perception out there because of how this whole contraception issue played out — ah, we need to get off of that issue, in my view,” said McCain. “I think we ought to respect the right of women to make choices in their lives and make that clear, and get back onto what the American people really care about.”

McCain gave the remarks weeks after backing an amendment offered by Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) that would have restored to employers the right to opt out of paying for employees’ birth control, a measure that was voted down.

However, McCain has welcomed the fact that a measure in his home state to allow employers to decline to cover contraceptive pills not used for medical reasons will likely be voted down. The bill stalled in the state Senate this week, but supporters say they will try to address the medical privacy concerns that have been voiced by McCain and Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer.

GOP leaders in both the U.S. Senate and the House have vowed to fight the mandate that has sparked a firestorm of grassroots opposition in Catholic and Christian churches across the U.S. Protests in at least 129 U.S. cities are planned for Friday against the mandate, which has also earned condemnation from every bishop heading a Catholic diocese in the U.S.

“If the state is allowed to violate the religious rights of one religion, then surely it can violate those of others,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell last month of the mandate. “If the rights of some are not protected, the rights of all are in danger.”

Arizona, you owe us big-time for re-electing and burdening the rest of us with this burn-out.

Having rolled that around, a thought. The protection of church from state seems to be a body of statutes and custom.

That body of law and custom is being steadily eroded. I believe the current President, his wife, his girls, every appointed lackey in the White House and many leaders of Congress have no religion in the sense of Christian or Jew.

They see their task as eroding that body of law and custom to destroy that which remains.

New York City is seen by Moslems as the great Satan, the fountain of sin. It and the other American cities are without religion. Having none, they are by definition sin ridden. To one with religion, that is bad. To one with no religion, the absence of all restraints is good.

It is my view that sadly, there is no great will to return the cities and thus America away from what are perceived as sinful ways. There is lack of conservative will to get it done.

What an idiot, but it’s a problem shared by most republican “leaders”.

Democrats are busy calling them misogynist racist nazi murderers, and the republicans beg for forgiveness.

Why anyone would treat David the chimp Gregory’s talking points with respect ....

> To be successful, the argument must be made on other grounds.

How about this one.

Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF!!!!!!!!

This regulation, established by an act of Congress, violates the FREE EXERCISE clause of the First Amendment by forcing religious institutions to pay for something that violates their religious conscience.

Thomas Jefferson said, “To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”

This is even worse than that, because it compels all of Biblical Christianity, as well as the Catholic Church, to furnish funds for what they consider to be an egregious offense to God.

In fairness, having just blasted McCain for this in my first post, he did not criticize his party for “waging a war on women” as stated in the article.

My thought is that the argument must be made on other grounds than Christian beliefs. The person demanding birth control has no right to force all others to provide that which she is unwilling to provide for herself.

The whole question of government involvement in the issue is without basis. There is no authority for the government to have anything at all to do with birth control. That authority has been assumed out of thin air. Birth control is not a health issue, it is an economic issue. If the woman can’t control her urges then she must be forcibly sterilized for the benefit of society.

That principle is the issue of the coming election. The out of control power must be reigned in and the rules such as the one in question must be abolished. Alternatively, there must be blood in the streets to settle the issue one way or the other

The main issue is Abolishment of Obama”care.” The second issue is the mandatory, point-of-the-Federal-Gun, clause in Obama”care” to force all of us to buy something that The US Federal Government DICTATES that we buy.

Ever the Liberal, Senator Lame-Brain McCain chooses the third side issue and says that we just “Move On” and busy ourselves with what the Obama smokesceen topics are: Contraception, women’s health, women’s “rights’ and of course, War on Women. What a spineless, clueless wimp!

_______________________

Today is the second anniversary of the illegal signing of the robo-signed, Un-Constitutional, anti-competition, death knell law know as Obama”care.”

The brave few will be demonstrating against this dictatorial law in front of building that houses THE NINE SUPREMES.

Wish I could be there! Here are a few ideas for posters:

Obama”care” was robo-signed by Congress, and is therefore illegal.

Obama”care” was 2700 pages long, but is still being written, but not by Congress: witness the forced contraception coverage recently.

Obama”care” has caused “The Catholic Spring.”

Obama”care” reduces competition, and therefore is illegal by the 1890 Sherman Anti-Trust Law.

Obama”care” is designed to be a US Federal Government monopoly, with no competition.

Obama”care” also is illegal according to the US Constitution, because it violates our freedom of choice.

Will THE NINE SUPREMES notice any of these three violations? I seriously doubt it.

Impeached Bill Clinton proved that the US President is above US Federal Law, so anything that the President wants he gets, regardless of the Federal Laws that he has violated.

A thought just occurred to me that what we are seeing now might be some very subtle, long term “programming” that took place in Hanoi many years ago. Now there’s a cheery thought...

The problem is that all of the leadership are exactly like him... some just try not to show it to the public... but I do support mccain becoming an official dim.

So he misses the chance to demonstrate the point that he is making. Instead of clarifying that Repubs are not in a war on women, he reiterates that the canard is legitimate and then says the repubs need to get away from the issue.

Idioitic east coaster....

“What is it about the UNPRECEDENTED attack on freedom of religion that McCain doesn’t get?”

Of course he doesn’t get it. He was a co-author of McCain-Feingold and that was an attempt by him to eliminate political speech, so it is no surprise that he doesn’t think we should have religous liberty.

Despite any rhetoric about respcting to the Constitution, or “limited government” I don’t see the GOP establishment doing anything but salivating at the prospect of getting that power into their own hands.
