Jim DeMint's Common Sense on Romney
American Thinker ^ | 03/23/2012 | J. Robert Smith

Posted on 03/23/2012 6:45:58 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

For Senator Jim DeMint, the prospect of Mitt Romney securing the GOP nomination sooner rather than later is a good thing.  In remarks made on Thursday that were reported by CNN, the reliably conservative South Carolinian and Tea Party favorite suggested that closing out the Republican presidential contest means "we [Republicans] can focus on the real problem which is Obama."

At this point in the nominating fight, the delegate math is strongly working against Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich.  It would take more than Hail Mary passes for either man to win the Republican nomination; it would take near miracles.

After a meeting with Romney on Capitol Hill, DeMint commented:

"His [Romney's] leadership skills, the fact that he hasn't lived his life in Washington. There's a lot to like there."

Referring to Santorum and Gingrich, DeMint said:

"They can drag it out to the convention if they want, but I think if some of them look at where they are the best thing they can do is maybe look at throwing their support behind the one who might be our nominee and that's beginning to look like Romney."

DeMint, translated: “Our near-Socialist candidate is better than the known Socialist incumbent.”

Just a matter of degrees and the speed at which we arrive at the desired destination of those who believe our lives are better everytime the government takes away freedom. How it is named really has nothing to do with it.

If Romney’s going to be the nominee, I hope he wins but I will not help him.

We need to keep our enthusiasm up for the all the downballot races, sweep more conservatives into positions of power so that whoever the president is, he will have no choice but to sign or reject conservative legislation.

“The middle way is no way at all. If we finally fail in this great and glorious contest, it will be by bewildering ourselves in groping for the middle way.” - John Adams

Romeny has had a lot of help. Fox News, many radio talkshow host, and mostly the establishmentarians.
Not to mention the ding dongs who bought into Romeny is the only one who can win.
Completely ignoring his history like they did for Obama.
And, now apparently Demint..???

The RNC is at fault.

We have to defeat the RNC before we can beat anyone in any political contest. Two battles but one has to come before the other

Romney’s wins have been primarily in Obama strongholds at the same time he has consistently insulted conservatives. Add the fact that he’s going to shake off his “severely conservative” positions for the general election proves that he doesn’t think conservatives are all that important to his election.

LOL! Santorum is not exactly what you would call a dynamo either. Obama leads Santo by close to 10 points, and the election season has not even begun yet. At least Romney consistently scores better against Obama than Santo does.

Wait until the MSM gets done with Santo. Most of the General public only knows his name right now. And name recognition is about 90% of American Politics.

nah, Etch’s wax wings will be seared off by Barry's handlers and the Leni Riefenstahl media, and the LDS chosen one will plummet into the Sea of RINO Has-Beens

And the Rom-bots will still blame Santorum and Newt

The good ol’ boys club GOP establishment, after many rounds of golf and salon dinner parties to complain about the frustratingly ignorant noncompliant unwashed conservative masses, have now figured out the only way their great white hope, Romney, can even “look” like a winner - is to run him unopposed

Right you are Lorianne: “Romney cannot win against Obama.”

IMHO, if Romney is anointed as the RNC Nominee, THE main issue in the National Election, Obama”care,” will be taken off the campaign table. Hence, Romney will not only lose, but suffer another crushing, and sadly typical, RINO defeat.

To those who want poster ideas, here are a few ideas for demonstration posters:

Obama”care” was robo-signed by Congress, and is therefore illegal.

Obama”care” was 2700 pages long, but is still being written, but not by Congress: witness the forced contraception coverage recently.

Obama”care” has caused “The Catholic Spring.”

Obama”care” reduces competition, and therefore is illegal by the 1890 Sherman Anti-Trust Law.

Obama”care” is designed to be a US Federal Government monopoly, with no competition.

Obama”care” also is illegal according to the US Constitution, because it violates our freedom of choice.

Will THE NINE SUPREMES notice any of these three violations? I seriously doubt it.

Impeached Bill Clinton proved that the US President is above US Federal Law, so anything that the President wants he gets, regardless of the Federal Laws that he has violated.

Anyone notice that DeMint said this away from cameras? Real solid endorsement here. If DeMint was a man o principle, he would have come right out at a televised event and said this to all. Not wait till a handful of print dopes were hiding in a closet. This is disappointing for so many reasons.

Nor are we Evangelicals, and believe me I am one and I vote. I’d have to hold my nose to vote for him, for any of them. Santorum’s voting record will bite him in the butt big time, Paul is a KOOK who knows the Constitution. But legalizing bad drugs is NOT a good thing, it will only encourage more to use them, and it is bad enough to share the road with those who do them illegally, will be worse if it were legal. That is like giving a loaded gun to a 5 year old. STUPID!

I wasn't sure you understood that from the tone of your post.

Newt is the only candidate who would connect with the public once he became exposed. He would appeal to all sides because of his plain speaking, intelligent and level headed approach.

The only reason he could not recover from the Romney lies and propaganda in Florida, is that this swarm if ignorant lemmings, who stampeded from candidate to candidate, thinking that the “Anybody but Romney” insanity would actually work. And since Newt was not “perfect” enough for their incessant search for the “Holy Grail” candidate, we now find ourselves in this mess.

The timing was all wrong for Newt. And now that it is obvious that Newt cannot recover, his numbers will guarantee that will happen.

American Thinker disappoints with this stinker of an article. This guy goes on to say that Milt is the "yellow dog candidate the dems can love". Pa-yuke!

et tu, DeMint? So much for your Senate "Conservatives" Fund. No thanks and "No thanks" on this drivel of an article.

Maybe DeMint wrote off getting a conservative nominee for president as hopeless a long time ago, and he's always been focused on the Senate. I suspect the party boys got together with him and told him he had to help call off the conservative dogs in the presidential race to help his down ticket goals. So he's taking one for the team. You're not supposed to do that according to Romney, though. I hope Romney appreciates all these people willing to throw themselves in front of the train for him.

No, Demint did not "take one for the team"; he capitulated and compromised with the liberals in the GOP-E.

I don't see this as a strength on his part and I don't believe it should be framed that way.

If he really believed in his principles, he would not have done this.

"If a conservative donates one red cent to the RNC, they’re insane!"

I totally agree. I got a request for money in the mail not long ago. I had a joke million dollar bill with Obama's face on it and "stimulus funds" below the picture. I stuck that in the envelope and sent it to them, with a note telling them to enjoy it, because it was the last they would EVER get from me.

What I really wonder about is why the GOP-E is SO panicked? I support Santorum, but I’m enough of a realist to recognize he doesn’t have much of a shot. So why is the establishment so freaked that they must insist that all opposition shut down their campaigns now? They even get DeMint to sellout to truncate the process. I’m sure they realize how much they are grinding the gears to force this to the resolution they want. Is it worth the damage? If Romney is such a good candidate, let him prove it and have the process playout. I suspect it’s money. Romney is so weak, it’s cost him a fortune to win by bludgeoning his opponents.

Well, I think that Janey Brewer is just not too bright. She starts doing what is right and then, when least expected, “chickens out” and does something stupid/counterproductive. That’s unfortunate in a state where they have the courageous patriot Joe Arpaio. Imagine what could be accomplished in Arizona if Brewer had half the guts and smarts of Sheriff Arpaio.

Nikki Haley, while an improvement over the typical South Carolina Republican establishment type has been somewhat of a disappointment. I had thought that either Haley or Tim Scott would be perfect to defeat the “wobbly” McCain want-a-be Lindsey Graham in the 2014 primary. Some of Haley’s actions have now, in my mind, made Tim Scott the best person to take on this chore. Lindsey would go down to defeat in a landslide to a well-run conservative challenge. And, guess what, DeMint would NOT support Graham—and Graham knows this. That approaching 2014 primary is why Lindsey is doing so much conservative posturing now. Hell, I might retire, move to South Carolina and volunteer full-time to work to defeat the poseur Graham.

As a conservative I am tired of “taking one for the team...” We have been asked to “take on for the team” every election since 88.

When do the liberals “take one for the team?” Oh, that’s right liberals and It’s All About the Party Boy pukes don’t have any concept of loyalty or team, just taking care of themselves at others expense.

You sold out cheap Jim.
