A new Rasmussen Reports polls gives GOP presidential contender Rick Santorum a double-digit lead going into the Louisiana primary on Saturday, putting the former Pennsylvania senator on solid footing to carry some additional bragging rights out of another Deep South nominating contest.

The survey shows former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney running second and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich running a distant third

Here is what Santorum actually said:

"You win by giving people a choice. You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who’s just going to be a little different than the person in there. If you’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate of the future,” Santorum told a crowd at USAA."

People say that here on FR all the time. The media, even FOX, and Romney have reported their biased idea of what Santorum said. Not what he actually said.

Newt isn’t the enemy, ROMNEY IS THE ENEMY. This constant pitting of Rick against Newt (and visa versa) is counter-productive.

Bottom line is that Romney IS NOT electable. Too many folks like myself will stay home rather than vote for him. Romney = Obama = No difference

Amen.

Amen.

Amen.

Even McCain, who endorsed Romney, said Romney is unelectable, per a thread this morning.
Ouch!

Let me clarify this for you....

The poll was conducted two days ago, before the media (MSM) purposely misinterpreted Santorum's spot on words...AND

...true conservative folks see through their shenanigans (because they're smarter than the media) and support Santorum even more!!!!!!

Correction: Romney = Santorum = Obama No difference(s).

Mr. Newt is the most qualified leader we have seen in many years. I will not quit until he quits.

“Correction: Romney = Santorum = Obama No difference(s).”

“Mr. Newt is the most qualified leader we have seen in many years. I will not quit until he quits.”

Newt Gingrich is my FIRST choice as well. However, I would gladly take Santorum if Newt doens’t get it. Now...I am sick of perons that keep pitting Newt against Santorum and visa versa. IF you trully think that Santorum = Romney = Obama. THEN you are mentally defective and shouldn’t be voting anyway. IN NO WAY IS SANTORUM LIKE OBAMA ANYMORE THAN GINGRICH IS. Newt is the BEST choice, but Santorum is better than nothing and ROMNEY IS NOTHING. Romney and Obama are the same thing, just different parents and skin color.

By all means stick with Newt....but knock off the ridiculous comparisons of Santorum to Obama! Your are insane and a fool to boot. I don’t care IF this gets me zotted.

Did pointing out the truth that Newt once advocated for a federal government individual mandate, or that he sat on couch and shared a position with Nancy Pelosi on Global Warming make you mad? Or was it pointing out that Newt and ACORN endorsed the same ultra lib in NY-23.

All true, so I say again Newt Buh Bye!

You’re not supposed to put something in quotes unless it is exactly what the person said, and I suspect you know that it is not. But hey, keep running with Mr. etch a sketch’s talking points.

http://www.newt.org/answers/#health-insurance-mandate

Mandate to Purchase health insurance

Newt opposes Governor Romney’s health insurance mandate, and Newt opposes President Obama’s health insurance mandate. Newt believes mandates to buy health insurance are wrong on principle, and in the case of the Obamacare health insurance mandate, unconstitutional as well.

With respect to President Obama’s health insurance mandate, Newt believes it is an unprecedented and unconstitutional expansion of federal power. If the federal government can coerce individuals—by threat of fines—to buy health insurance, there is no stopping the federal government from forcing Americans to buy any good or service. It is a serious and unconstitutional infringement of individual liberty.

With respect to Governor Romney’s mandate, we have observed that it doesn’t achieve its goal of providing low cost catastrophic coverage for the uninsured. The intractable problem we have learned from experience with health insurance mandates is this: once you have a mandate, the government has to specify exactly what coverage must be included in insurance for it to qualify. This introduces political considerations into determining these minimum standards, guaranteeing that nothing desired by the special interests will be left out.

In the 1990s, Newt and many other conservatives, such as the Heritage Foundation, proposed a mandate to purchase health insurance as the alternative to Hillarycare. However, the problems outlined above caused Newt to come to the principled conclusion that a mandate to purchase health insurance was unconstitutional, unworkable and counterproductive to lowering the cost of healthcare.

Today, Newt carries the banner in fighting for the repeal of Obamacare and advocates for a “patient power” replacement that will create a free market framework for healthcare, provide affordable, portable, and reliable healthcare coverage, and establish a healthcare safety net focused on those truly in need. This system moves us towards the goal of healthcare for all with no unconstitutional mandate of any kind.

http://www.newt.org/answers/#global-warming-cap-and-trade

Global Warming/Cap and Trade

Newt does not believe there is a settled scientific conclusion about whether industrial development has dramatically contributed to a warming of the atmosphere.

Newt absolutely opposes “cap and trade” as well as any system of taxing carbon emissions. He testified before Congress against it in 2009 and led a grassroots effort while the Chairman of American Solutions to block its passage in the House and Senate.

Newt believes that cap and trade would kill hundreds of thousands of American jobs, cause electricity and fuel prices to skyrocket, and make America poorer. In contrast, Gingrich believes the best way to protect the environment is through markets, incentives, and entrepreneurs, who quite often are deploying innovative new technologies.

As for the question of whether industrial development has dramatically contributed to a warming of the atmosphere, Newt has noted there is no settled scientific conclusion. Many scientists believe it is the case. Others do not. But this unsettled scientific question has nothing to do with the best approach to protecting our environment, which is always markets, incentives, and entrepreneurs creating better and more efficient products and services.

Q: So why did Newt do the ad with Nancy Pelosi in 2007 calling for action to address climate change?

Newt does not believe there is a settled scientific conclusion about whether industrial development has dramatically contributed to a warming of the atmosphere.

Through his entire career, Newt has supported pro-market, pro-entrepreneur, innovative solutions to our environmental challenges, which he believes are superior to the liberal pro-bureaucracy, pro-tax, pro-regulation approach to the environment.

Newt believes that conservatives cannot be absent from the conversation about the environment and instead that conservatives must offer and explain why conservative solutions are better. Unfortunately, the attempt to get that message out through the ad with Nancy Pelosi failed. On November 8, 2011, Newt told FOX News’ Bret Baier that doing that commercial with Pelosi was “probably the dumbest single thing I’ve ever done”.

Newt will continue to oppose the Democrats’ destructive cap-and-trade and carbon tax proposals, continue to support expanded domestic oil and gas drilling, and continue to fight for a fundamental replacement of the job-killing Environmental Protection Agency with an Environmental Solutions Agency.

http://www.newt.org/answers/#dede-scozzafava-endorsement

Dede Scozzafava Endorsement

Newt has admitted it was a mistake to back Dede Scozzafava, the Republican nominee in the 2009 NY-23 special election.

Whether it was helping to build the Republican Party of Georgia back when Democrats controlled the entire state or leading the nationwide effort in 1994 to break 40 years of Democratic rule in the House, Newt has always tried to advance the cause of a truly conservative Republican party. This has always meant supporting the most conservative nominee possible as selected by Republican primary voters.

Therefore, Newt will almost always back the nominee of the Republican party and not back an independent candidate in a race against a Democratic candidate.

Newt still believes in this principle, however, he has admitted it was a mistake to back Dede Scozzafava, the Republican nominee in the 2009 NY-23 special election. Although she was the Republican nominee, the problem was that Republican primary voters did not pick her, the local party leaders did, otherwise her liberal views would have prevented her from becoming the nominee. The Conservative Party candidate whom Scozzafava was running against, Doug Hoffman, recently remarked about Newt’s endorsement of his rival, “I would advise other conservative republicans: Don’t hold this against him.”

“THEN you are mentally defective and shouldn’t be voting anyway.” And you, have not done your homework. Santorum was one of the biggest spenders during his years in the Senate. He voted for big labor projects, and liberal proposals as well. On FreeRepublic you can find a very good list of his “so called accomplishments” which I do not consider conservative. Just think about how the good ole boys in the Senate will lead him around by the nose, McCain, Graham, McConnell. We need a leader that is not intimidated by the big boys to clean up the mess in Washington as well as take out Obama.

Santorum or Romney would be better than Obama, but then you would still just be managing the decay in the Senate and House. Neither have the leadership qualities to get the job done. I’m sorry you have to resort to call your advisories mentally defective. I know many, many people who should not be voting, but I am very astute as to Santorum and Romney’s misdirection and slick ways. They will lie to obtain what they want and then turn around and do exactly what they lied about to achieve their goals.

They are both probably very fine men and good husbands, even gentle in the mannerisms. That they probably have over Mr. Newt. Mr. Newt’s personal problems happened a long time ago, and if people are using that as an excuse, they are simply misguided. However, we need a fighter this time around, with an intense knowledge of how the legislative process works, and are very aware of how the rules will work to their advantage, in order to take out Obama. As much as I would like to believe that Santorum or Romney could do the job, neither of them are capable of handling the bias media onslaught that will come their way. McCain and Dole were the same way. Bush had a little more grit, but turned out to be a big-spending republican with power hungry colleges.

I don’t believe you should be calling me names, but that rolls off my back. I am a gentle grandmother with a very good intellect. I know a slick politician when I see one, and I recognize insincerity in people. Mr. Newt is not perfect, however, I will take his imperfections over Santorum or Romney any day. He at least is man enough to admit when he has made a mistake. God will judge him in the end, because that is not our job. Who in their right mind would want to tackle the problems created by not only this president, but also by the problems created by a weak Senate, and an even weaker House. The conservatives voted in by the wave in 2010 in the House are making a good stand, but they are being rolled by the entrenched politicians in both parties. Grow up whoever you are, and present a solid argument for your candidate, which you have not.

Duhh! Like I didn’t know Newt had flip flopped on all those issues.

If he wasn’t for cap and trade, then he shouldn’t have essentially been promoting it and boosting the credibility of the left wing whacko global warming nutjobs by making a commercial with Pelosi.

He has no excuse for co-endorsing a candidate with ACORN when every conservative worth his or her salt was pointing out the fact that Newt’s candidate in NY23 was so far left that ACORN endorsed her over the Democrat in the race.

Yes, Newt was for the mandate before he was against it. But wait, mommy the Heritage foundation was for it too. Well, I wasn’t and anyone that has a passing understanding of the constitution shouldn’t have fallen for it either. I know Newt needs to be against it now, but how hard will he fight to repeal something that he was a fan of a few years ago.

All this is moot point, since Newt is done anyway.

Poll: Santorum poised for big win in Louisiana
____________________________________________________________
May I remind you that Rick had the lead in the polls in four (4) States and blew them and RINO-Rom won? They are Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, and one other; can’t remember it right now. Rick has a way of pulling defeat from the jaws of victory. How does he do it? He engages his mouth before his brain. He lets his mouth write a check his ass can’t cover.

I made some Louisiana Newt calls as I also did in Tennessee and Mississippi. What was surprising and different was that a significant portion of voters (female) said they would decide at the polls!

Santorum? Win BIG?

I hardly think that only 20 delegates that are available in this particular caucus is what I would call BIG. You are correct to point out how pathetic a candidate he has been and is. It's no wonder that he only polled under 2% for 9 straight months.

“Obama is the No. 1 enemy.”

“You are No. 2 if you stick by your statement here.”

NO ROMENY IS THE ENEMY JUST AS OBAMA IS. Also, my friend YOU are the enemy IF you cannot grasp that as long as Conservative Republicans allow the “establishment” to force candidates on us that are not acceptable (AKA Romney). We will never get back the Party of Reagan. Sometimes it requires putting up with some pain (four more years of Obamantion) to strive for a higher cause...a REAL conservative as POTUS. However, until the “establishment” is slapped into line....this cannot happen.
