(CNN) -- I don't trust cops and I don't know many black people who do.
I respect them. I sympathize with them. I am appreciative of the work they do.
But when you've been pulled over for no good reason as many times as I have; when you've been in handcuffs for no good reason as many times as I have; when you run out to buy some allergy medication and upon returning home, find yourself surrounded by four squad cars with flashing lights and all you can think about is how not to get shot, you learn not to trust cops.
The first instance of injustice surrounding the Trayvon Martin tragedy occurred February 26, the night George Zimmerman decided to pursue, confront and ultimately shoot and kill Martin. The second started the moment the Sanford police failed to properly investigate what, given the 911 tapes, is clearly a questionable claim of self-defense made by Zimmerman. But seeing that Martin's parents were forced to sue the police department just to hear the tapes, it seems as if Zimmerman isn't the only questionable component in this case.
Thursday, Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee stepped down "temporarily." On Wednesday, Sanford city commissioners had voted "no confidence" in him.

Hell! I’m lily white and I don’t trust the police either.
Will his follow up article be “Why other people don’t trust black people”?
Don’t suppose that freaky hairdo would have anything to do with it, do you?
Demanding the police abuse their power in favor of black demands is as bad as the abuse blacks claim they are subjected to in the first place. Stupid racists.
That would be a good read.
With all the laws on the books if any one of the things he alleges is true he’s just a couple of law suits away from being a millionaire.
Will his follow up article be Why other people dont trust black people?
Here...I’ll help him get started...
That was my first thought, too, p. But I refrained from posting, “Get a haircut, chump”. You said it much better than I would have.
One the other hand, if one dresses and behaves like the punks of your race...you will be treated like a punk by the police until you are proven innocent.
Isn't this just common sense...or perhaps common sense just isn't common anymore?
It’s called “profiling” and is a valid technique for Police, Soldiers and everyone else, IMO.
I really have to question taht every police force, in every town and city, is harrassing every black person throughout their life.
For one thing, lots of towns, cities and police are overwhelmingly black, and this article doesn’t mention that many blacks “distrust” black police most of all.
Then there is the sad little fact that black males are committing hugely disproportionate amounts of crime, usually against other blacks. That many black neighborhoods respect drug dealers, and hate the police because they may be drug enforcement agants.
Then the little detail that in this case the police had evidence that T Martin was shot while on top of George Zimmerman beating the tar oout of him.
Not saying Zimmerman is innocent, am saying there are many people in this country constantly looking for “racial incidents”.
Appears in fourth paragraph .... more questions begin as the shark is ridden and not a shred of an agenda can be seen in the written. Of course am kidding.
See your easily accessible race-delineated FBI crime statistics for any year in the past 50+
I don’t trust either demographic.
I’ll bet he trusts Al “Twana Brawley” Sharpton, though....
What if, after all the emotion, the grand jury doesn’t indict Zimmerman? I have no idea whether they will or won’t, but I’d guess it will get pretty rough if they don’t.
So this one incident shows that all police are racists, whites are murderers (actually hispanics I guess) and all self defense laws are invalid.
perhaps I’m wrong, but I’ll bet Condi Rice, Larry Elders, Clarence Thomas, Herman Cain, and other law-abiding blacks trust the police as much as any white person does.
Granderson and Whitlock from Fox Sports are the 2 biggest racists in sports reporting. These 2 ass clowns always bitch about why there are no black coaches in the NFL and bitch about fag issues when they have the chance.
Could it be also the police do not trust black people especially the ones that hate whites..Even the black police officers do not like to go into black neighborhood afraid they will get shot..When I say black neighborhood I mean welfare ones..
Blacks that live together with whites are like whites they work hard and raise good children...They are afraid of the black thug..so are very cautious when they pass a black person that dress and look like a thug..
I don't care who you are, what you look like, where you are going, if you have been cuffed, surrounded, and worried about getting shot, YOU aren't as innocent as YOU make yourself out to be.
And if you write for CNN, you should be locked up anyway!
“Ill bet he trusts Al Twana Brawley Sharpton, though....”
VERY valid point, Sharpton has caused deaths and ruined lives with his proven lies against police, and his racism against other minorities in NY. How crazy to be taking him seriously here.
It’s common sense until you don’t look like the cops.
Will CNN send this genius to report on the spot of the now breaking reports of a black male killing 2 in a Durham NC tire store?
My initial reaction was that this was another police overreach, but I've seen indications that maybe that reaction was wrong.
Whatever, "freaky hairdos" give no one a license to kill.
Indeed , an attitude I picked up riding a motorcycle around SoCal in the early seventies.
>Hell! Im lily white and I dont trust the police either.
I thought much the same thing. - LOL
Yo,, Holmes,,, Why dont da cops trust black folk?
How fortunate you are to have lived so sheltered a life that you can still believe that.
“I”m lily white and I don’t trust the police either”.
I don't see any police overreach in this case. Based on the evidence at the scene, hispanic Zimmerman was not arrested. The police report notes Zimmerman was found with his back wet and stained from being held down on the ground, the back of his head was bloodied, and his nose was bleeding. This corroborates his interview where he said the black guy was on top of him viciously beating him, and after Zimmerman screamed for help that did not come, he shot the black guy. The police handcuffed Zimmerman, treated him at the scene, and released him. Zimmerman fully cooperated with the police.
In Oakland recently, a cop shot a young black to death and nearly got away with it. That black kid was held down on the ground by other officers, handcuffed behind his back, was cooperating, and viciously shot in the back by the cop. Now that was police overreach. The cop eventually served about a year in jail and is now out free. The Zimmerman case looks like self-defense.
I don’t trust the po po and I was one..
It’s not only black people that don’t trust the COPS. Why is that? Because they have good reason not to. The COPS can thank themselves for that. Less cops and more personal responsibility is the only way to go. Like most public employee groups, the primary purpose is to propagate themselves
Hey, it happens to whites, also. Except they don’t whine about it CONSISTENTLY! There are mostly all white neighborhoods where quota have to be met and scummy lawyers who are only in it for them! And the truly innocent are now considered criminal. But that’s not newsworthy - because it’s not black!! No sympathy here - unless they make it not racial but a power grab by police in general will we get somewhere.
It’s funny, but none of my black friends have these problems.
You got that right. Me too.
I believe that the problem arises because police are asked too often to enforce tyrannical law or policies. Examples:
I mean, we all know that police perform a critical role with respect to fighting true crime. The problem is, they don't spend much of their time or resources actually doing that.
The tyrannical stuff is much easier and more revenue friendly.
“So this one incident shows that all police are racists, whites are murderers (actually hispanics I guess) and all self defense laws are invalid.”
Fact: When an hispanic commits a crime, he is categorized as white. When an hispanic is the victim of a crime, he is categorized as hispanic.
When I was young, I did not like the police. They were always stopping me for speeding, and on friday nights, they would stop me for no particular reason, just to intimidate us into allowing them to check the car for alcohol (which was not easy to obtain). Although in those days, they would simply make us pour it all out.
As I got older, stopped driving like an idiot, and stopped looking like a punk ass trouble maker, the cops magically stopped pulling me over.
It's called keeping your head out of the radar screen.
If you are looking for trouble, IT will find you!
I won't be surprised if blacks demand their own drinking fountains soon.
I am still on the job and there are coppers out there I wouldn’t trust to watch TV, much less go through doors with me.
It ain’t getting better either...
I don't believe it, know it!
