I have a bone to pick with Hispanics. Mainly illegals. Because I am one. Hispanic, that is not illegal. Im actually a fourth-generation Hispanic American on my mothers side. In fact, this shout-out also goes to all the liberals who insist on calling Hispanics a minority group in need of help. Clearly, you gringos arent noticing whats happening on the Mexican/American border or the huge population numbers in places like LA and San Diego that clearly beg to differ with the term minority. And those numbers are only growing.
I grew up no more than three hours from the Mexican/American border in mostly rural and agriculturally-based suburbs. For the first nine years of my life, my family and I lived in an area where white folks were actually in the minority and the majority spoke Spanglish (English with Spanish words and expressions scattered throughout a conversation) or just Spanish. My father was a white country boy whose family was from the South, and my mother is fully Hispanic; I saw the differences in attitudes towards both. Namely, I received strange looks that could only be described as the What is that gringo doing with that little Spanish girl? look from people when I was with my dad and people would speak English to me. On the flip side, accompanying my mother resulted in being spoken to in Spanish and in no way given strange looks from passers-by, as it was considered the norm. But it wasnt whites projecting such discrimination. It was Hispanic immigrants giving my dad the funny looks.
Now in college, Ive come to understand the concepts of financial aid, welfare, and assistance programs that supply resources to someone in need. I actually use that term very lightly considering how much need is really not needed. Its ironic how much money there is for scholarships for immigrants and Hispanics, yet an American patriot has to struggle through college. Take for example my own father who, back in the day, was told by his high school counselor to give up the idea of receiving a scholarship unless he was an athletic superstar, simply because he was Caucasian with no other ethnic background whatsoever. Still, California Governor Brown cant wait for his DREAM Act to be enacted. Discrimination much? Talk about a double standard.
The real fun is having to fill out school and scholarship applications in California. I dont know about everyone else but for me, having to answer whether or not Im a legal citizen, was born in the U.S., whether or not my parents are legal citizens, and what ethnic backgrounds I am is rather insulting. Cant we just stick with American citizen or Non-American citizen (if non-citizen, check all that apply)? Sorry, I forgot that policy is discriminatory against immigrants who might want to become legal citizens.
Many people have heard of the term anchor babies and the liberal Lefts glorification of immigrants, saying that Americans just need to realize its high time that we, as the most diverse nation in the world, learn to love ourselves. Give me a break. Anchor babies are the illegal immigrants saving grace. Of course the U.S. isnt just going to throw the parents and family of the child born within American borders back to Mexico! Instead, we let them come here with their kids, grandparents, and extended family. Not only that, they also manage to turn a 4-bedroom, 3-bath home into an apartment complex housing 3-4 families at a time. Ive witnessed it.
But what really gets under my skin is the audacity illegal immigrants have. Its not an uncommon sight to go to the doctors office or store and see a woman with her children and a book filled with welfare and medical cards for each child and herself. Im talking dental and medical insurance, EBT cards, etc. She barely speaks a word of English, yet is usually the first to be taken care of while the rest of us tax-paying citizens watch helplessly from the sidelines as money weve earned goes to someone who hasnt worked in the U.S. a day in their life.
Think Im kidding? Come to Southern California, where its not uncommon to see the Mexican flag raised above the American flag (if the U.S. flag is present at all) not just on the flag poles in residential areas, but on bumper stickers, t-shirts, etc. Or the common Mexican Pride gangster signs promoting Chicano supremacy. Most who promote Chicano supremacy want California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas to be given back to Mexico and will protest while promoting civil unrest amongst immigrants, not to mention the rude looks you get if you dont understand what theyre saying or speak their native language. And dont forget the drug trade, which they use to acquire more money if the government isnt dishing out what they think is their fair share (The LA Times, a liberal newspaper here in CA, has an overwhelmingly large section dedicated solely to drug-related crime on the border within the last four years.).
So heres my problema: Were giving free-ride education, welfare, medical care, and living arrangements to people who arent even legal citizens at a time when our own economy is tanking. Legal U.S. citizens are having trouble finding work, and were worried about offending people on the border?
As a conservative, I promote patriotism and freedom, yet Im called a racist, heartless, a traitor, even so far as being called white-mans trash (the more profane version) simply because I do not sympathize with my people. And Im not the first the first to experience this.
If you move to another country, its because you agree with the laws of the new land and are willing to leave behind the ways of the previous country. People come to the U.S. because they believe in freedom, granted to those who are willing to defend it, while not disrespecting the Constitution that provides safety within American borders.
For the record: If you want me to be more sympathetic to my grandfathers heritage, you should know that most of my familys men since my great grandfather received his citizenship and have served in all branches of the U.S. military. My grandfather died a United States Marine. Clearly, he understood what America stands for and was willing to defend her.
I dont hate Hispanics or anyone of any ethnic backgrounds. Granted, I was a rebel and didnt learn Spanish because I didnt want to be lumped into a stereotype or category. I actually love my heritage. After all, Hispanics have the best looking actors (such as Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas); we have amazing food, good music, and a rich ethnic culture. Hispanics are kind and hard-working people. But those who come here illegally and have no respect for Americans, the American flag, or the Constitution should not be given benefits of the American government. Period. Its not right for legal, law-abiding citizens and the men and women who have fought for this country to be treated as second-class citizens. And to the Liberals who insist on calling us a minority, give it up. How about you all just move to Mexico and help them out down there? It would probably be easier for you to create your socialist utopia amongst the poor and helpless Mexican natives.
My mother in law is the whitest woman on the planet. All five of her great-grandchildren are “hispanic.” Their parents however are citizens and married. My granddaughter has blue eyes. When she tells us she’s Mexican we start speaking Spanish to her which gets a look from her like, okay, you speak Spanish and I don’t, grrrrr. When she applies for college, I will tell her to put down hispanic so she can get the benefits but I think it’s wrong. I just figure if anyone should get them , it should be my granddaughter.

I’m in love again!!!
Thank you so much for posting!
...all just so they vote Democrat.
*****Hispanics are kind and hard-working people*****
Agree

I think you have hit the nail on the head here.
I thought this might be of interest to you. ;-)
Its all about political power. Brown and the others just want as many votes as possible. They dont care about what happens ten/twenty years down the road.
I’m really not that surprised from this. A lot of the old school Chicanos and Tejanos get quite offended at illegals, and California illegals are even rated below that.
About twenty years ago, a federal court said that districts likes Edgewood ISD on the westside of San Antonio, were not getting enough tax money from the state because property in the district was so low. Even today, despite the extra money, the ISD scores are far from up to standard. Too many families didn’t want the kids to get assimilated.
Author is wrong. Best looking actor on planet is Salma Valgarma Hayek Jiménez.
Benefits are chains to bind illegals to their Communist masters, just as they seek to enslave us all.
I was recently surprised to find out that Latinos are only considered to be white when they kill a black guy.

Well written, and spot on! Thanks for posting this.
The Tejano community serves as a kind of cultural barrier between the Anglo-part and Mexico. Northern Mexico was the source of the old Cattle culture that was dominant in Texas until WWII, so despite the racism, there was a lot of cultural commonality. The racism in the valley did not come until after 1900 when midwesterners followed the railroad into South Texas and began to force out the Spanish landowners. San Benito was a hotbed of the KKK. Southern California has had a much different history.,
You know, if the Spaniards had, like the English, brought their women with them when they conquered their part of the New World this discussion would be academic.
We are being colonized. Thanks Ted Kennedy. Burn in hell please.
Our only saving grace is that we are being colonized by Catholics rather than by Muslims, like Europe.
It is not much of a saving grace and frankly, I am NOT enjoying my front row seat while watching the Death of Western Civilization.
I'm telling both of my kids to put down latino/hispanic on their college applications.
Two of my co-workers have daughters that are part hispanic (1/2 and 1/4), although you'd never know it to look at them. They both received scholarship offers in excess of $30,000.
If colleges stupid and racist enough to offer it, I'll happily separate them from their money.
Hustler logic—have we finally come to that?
I know where you're coming from...but can you see where that leads?

Always good to see people of high principles here at FR. I imagine you would also accept a mortgage principle reduction and any other goodies you could get from the government, by hook or crook.
Because government has its own money that doesn’t come from the governed, after all. You know, like a presidential stash used to pay college scholarships for people who were smart enough to choose parents with the right ancestry.
Where am I? DU? KOS?
Gracias! Como ‘sta?
I grew up in SOuthern Kal. Had many Mexican friends. It’s not the color of the skin, it’s the heart the counts.
We were not rich, but helped each other when needed. I still do that for friends and neighbors.
We should eliminate the government from our lives as much as possible. We need to depend on each other, no matter what color, to deprive the government stranglehold on our lives.
Churches should be helping their members, too. God tells us to do unto others as we would have them do to us.
If you ignore others, that really need help, you should not expect help yourself. But, if you refuse a job and let others take care of you. Shame on you.
We all are in need, in one way or another. We need each other, not the government.
>>When she applies for college, I will tell her to put down hispanic so she can get the benefits but I think its wrong. I just figure if anyone should get them , it should be my granddaughter.<<
Why? Because she chose the right grandparents? And for that I should pay?
Same question as last post, where am I? It can’t be the premier Conservative message board in the country. Not with people backing into socialist ideals using fig leafs.
Some choose to run, some choose to stand their ground, having no desire to give up the best to settle for less.
I'm in CA, and there are no Mexican flags in my area, but there are *multiple* American flags flown 365 days per year on homes all around us.
In fact, I consider those flying foreign flags in America, to be foreign traitors/enemy and people who will stab you in the back.
Personally, I'm glad some some in the enemy camps do this, as they are very easily identified, as you know where their allegiance lies.
After three generations here we are all Americans. The Liberals can’t abide that.
Then, what; sneak across the border into Oregon?
Most the immigrants from Mexico I see are Jehovah’s Witness or some kind of protestant. Remember, Mexico has had an officially anti-Catholic Constitution since the 1820s.
The Spanish came as conquerors and marauders.
The money doesn't come from the government. It comes from other people's tuition. Like the tuition I paid to fund other kids and the tuition I'll be paying to send my kids to college.

If they are private scholarships, yes. And, sure, why not use a finger on the scale to cut in line (I know that is mixing metaphors)? I mean, if anyone is allowed to do it, I should be allowed to do it.
Principles are for the naive.
(do I need /s?)
Or Franciscans and Dominicans.
Not the Church's finest hour.
” Most who promote Chicano supremacy want California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas to be given back to Mexico..”
Then, what; sneak across the border into Oregon?
_______________
There’s the real irony of this ‘reconquista’ nonsense, they want it all not just the SW states....and they’re already here...My home is So. Oregon. Medford has a Latino illegal alien gang problem like you wouldn’t believe...every day it’s a shooting, rape, murder, you name it, we got it. The city is covered with their graffiti and what does sanctuary city Medford do? They charge the property owner if the graffiti
isn’t cleaned up within 3 days.
“Our only saving grace is that we are being colonized by Catholics rather than by Muslims, like Europe.

It’s not what most would consider ‘Catholic’...it’s Santa Muerte, the worship of the culture of death. And don’ t forget there are more beheadings, kidnappings and murders of journalists in Mexico than any Muslim country.

So the parents come here illegally, bring their foreign born children and the children then form into rapacious gangs while the parents try to scrape out a living? I would think that this would piss the parents off no end.
Which is why they elected BO as their president.
Ouch!
The CIA World Factbook still lists 76% of current Mexicans as Catholics, down from some 95% Catholics in 1970. Knowing that some 1 in 5 Mexicans has immigrated to the USA in that time, I’m going to assume that the vast majority of the Mexican immigrants of the past 40 years were Catholics.
This shall apply to all immigrants from every corner of the Earth. We moved here because we love it here and we want to keep it just the same way as we fell in love with from the very beginning. Assimilating yourself is certainly a growing process and that shall be the only right direction for all immigrants. If any immigrant isn't ready for it, he/she shall certainly stay at her/his homeland.

That's pretty much exactly what would happen.
