US Marines Commercial on NCAAs
Mar 24, 2012 | ML/NJ

I guess I'm the only one outraged by this. I did a search for previous posts and didn't find anything.

So there's this commercial for the Marines that has run at least twice now that I've seen. Lot's of guys hitting the beach &c., but no enemy. But one of the helicopters is full of boxes labeled "AID."

I'm not a Marine, but I feel sorry for those I've know, who see their Corps relegated to a meals-on-wheels brigade.

I searched for a video of this commercial, but was unable to find one.

I have seen that ad a couple of times and never thought much about it but you are right, it is not my cup of tea for our fighting men.

Not as bad as a lot of TV tho.

Just remember, you paid for this.

And it's even worse if it's true, because you're paying for that too; and maybe there's nobody home guarding the store.

It’s all part of the preparation for Ubama’s missions into Africa to stop tribes of natives from killing each other.
Or something.

We (Marines) did it in VN all the time under the policy known as pacification.
The idea was to win the hearts and minds of the locals and the VC/NVA would get no cooperation, food, info, help, etc.
I believe the Marines actually started the policy way back in Nicaragua.

Killing folks is not the only mission of the US Marines. Saving lives looks good on your resume also. Jimmy Carter had a platoon of us delivering some kind of secret documents in the Senate and House. It didn’t bother me. Carter did!

10-4. America is the world’s rent a cop. But, they don’t pay rent. The American tax payer picks up the bill. To the tune of trillions. We give aid to countries with billions in the banks from oil production, etc, yet WE give THEM money???? Go figure. Yup, bankruptcy is coming to this country soon. Greece West. That’s us.

Coincidentally, during the basketball game a little while ago, there was the Navy commercial currently being run.

A similar thought ran through my mind, because instead of communicating that the U. S. Navy is a strong defender and protector of freedom (or America), the message is quite different and contains a global concept.

Never thought of the change in focus prior to that moment.

I assume from your post that you are or were a Marine. Thank you for your service.

But the purpose of our military is, as Rush likes to say, to break things and kill people. It would be one thing if some humanitarian mission brought credit to us (or to Israel which also tries the same thing) but it doesn't, except in the eyes of some liberal sot at a university in our own country.

You can knock that crap off.

Yeah, I do. It showed the Marines working with machines and technology that can’t be accessed elsewhere.

I understand your view may be different. You’re entitled to your opinion.

There are many commercials showing the Marine Corps Reserve and their Toy for Tots program. Nothing wrong with showing the Marines, Navy, Army, Air Force lending a hand to down trodden peoples in need of immediate help. As a Marine I have no problem with it.

Marines do humanitarian missions all the time. The last BIG one was the tsunami in Indonesia. Last time I was in Okinawa, I sent Marines to the PI at least twice for mudslide relief at least twice. It’s really not a bad commercial if you can hear the commentary with it.

The video can be viewed here:

Are you speaking of the commercial with the close-up of the ocean and the graphics saying the world is 70% water, 90% of commerce travels by water and the Navy is 100% on duty to keep the sea lanes open? I don’t mind that one because the Suez Canal tension with Iran has been pretty recent. The slogan, “A global force for good” is a little milquetoasty, though. But the Navy’s mission has always been to keep the skies free and the sea lanes open.

The logo redesigns of the last few years point to globalization, too.

OTOH, considering the audience, college students and parents, they probably want to showcase the less lethal side of the armed forces, rather than parents being reminded that kids are dying in Afghanistan. They might feel more comfortable letting their kids join up and kids might feel better about signing up if there’s a small chance they won’t go into harm’s way. Silly, I know. But that’s how things are marketed.

But I have to disagree. Those of us who pay for the military expect it to kill people an break things. Let the liberals with feathers in their hats deliver food aid without expensive aircraft and attack support. If the natives shoot at them, let them turn back.

Really, are US Marines still delivering humanitarian assistance to Haiti more than a year after the earthquake there? And did we deliver ANY assistance to the people in Christchurch, NZ? This taxpayer would be interested in some answers and explanations.
