When Mitt Romney first entered the political scene in 1994, running for the U.S. Senate against Teddy Kennedy, he told an LGBT-focused publication in Massachusetts that he would be a more effective advocate for the interests of the gay community than Kennedy had been and that gays should support him because the gay community needs more support from the Republican Party.
Why should the gay community support your campaign when Ted Kennedy has been a strong supporter of civil rights issues and the gay community? asked a reporter from Bay Windows.
Well, I think you're partially right in characterizing Ted Kennedy as supportive of the gay community, and I respect the work and the efforts he's made on behalf of the gay community and for civil rights more generally, and I would continue that fight, Romney said in an interview currently posted on the Bay Windows website.
"I think the gay community needs more support from the Republican Party, said Romney, and I would be a voice in the Republican party to foster anti-discrimination efforts.

I agree with Bishop Romney 100%
Yet another reason the clown will never get my vote.
I refuse to celebrate perversion.
Support means extending greater rights to them than the rest of us get.
Romney and Obama. What a couple of hairballs. Hairballs that just seem to stick in your craw. You know the kind? Just can’t hack ‘em.
This comment on the article is gold:
“Reaching across the isle...say, Did Mitt win that election in 1994???
Reaching across the isle...say, Did John McCain win that election in 2008?”
Not only would Romney be “a voice in the Republican party to foster anti-discrimination efforts, he would be an agent for the radical homosexual agenda.
For example, we know Mitt Romney supports homo activists in their war against the Boy Scouts.
Starting during the Clinton Administration (does the name Roberta Achtenberg ring a bell?) the Boy Scouts came under relentless fire by the Democrats and their newsrooms for rejecting the idea that they, the Boy Scouts of America, should welcome homosexual scout leaders into the organization and let them take little boys off into the woods. Boy Scouts leaders didn’t think this was such a good idea. Naturally, Massachusetts Mittens sided with the homo activists.
Below are a couple of columns from 10 and 12 years ago about the Boy Scouts being turned away by Mitt Romney and the Olympics Committee for volunteer work on the Salt Lake Olympics. The Boy Scouts had been very active and high profile at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and were looking forward to participating once again. But the Boy Scouts had just won an important Supreme Court case (in June 2000 the Supreme Court ruled that the BSA was a private organization that could choose whoever they wanted as scout leaders and could therefore reject sodomites) and the Democrats/homos were still mighty ticked off about it. Massachusetts Mittens could always be counted on to pander to homo activists, of course, so he gladly came up with a lame lie of an excuse for turning the Boy Scouts away from the Salt Lake Olympics. The Boy Scouts’ disappointment was palpable, and Mitt Romney never returned their calls.
He’s getting desperate and needs votes. This is Mittens, it doesn’t matter what perversion he has to support as long as he gets the votes.
This egomaniac is one sick idiot.
He’s topped out in the number of “conservative” votes he can get so now he’s fishing with a full stringer and will lose voters on one end as he picks up voters at the other.
Yet, many still think that Gov. Etch-A-Sketch will be a meaningful change from Obamalini. The main difference will be that Romney will move more slowly and subtlely. And, because he’s “our guy”, the conservative mullets will mainly go along. In essence, Romney will simply consolidate and modestly expand Obamaism - just as the R establsihment has served as the tax collectors and improvers of the welfare state in the past.
Voting for Romney is like voting to be euthanized. With Obama it is at least clear who the enemy is and what he is doing.
He really does remind me more and more of Obama all the time.
At least with Obama we can get a little bit of fight out of McCain, Graham and others. They’d go right along with anything Romney wants.
Its extremely important to take the senate and hold the house.
It’s a lose/lose proposition for the Republican Party. Gays make up about 5 percent of the population, with a majority of those supporting socialists, and the Republican Party risks losing more sexually normal voters by supporting the gay agenda than they could possibly make up with the remainder of gay voters. Progressives like Romney fill their heads with fuzzy wuzzy flakes.
