'They Treated Us Inhumanely': Gay Man Thrown Off Caribbean Cruise For 'Having Sex On Deck In Port' Tells of 'Humiliating' Arrest
Men were spotted having sex on Celebrity Summit from dock in Dominica, where sex between two men is illegal. Claimed the Dominican police taunted and humiliated them, to the point they were frightened for their safety. Ordered to pay $900 fine after pleading guilty to indecent exposure. Said they will never go back to Dominica and that they should have done more research before going
By JILL REILLY and LAURA COX 24 March 2012 A Southern Californian man thrown off a Caribbean gay cruise earlier this week has said that that he and his partner were taunted, humiliated and subjected to inhumane treatment when they were arrested for indecent exposure.
Dennis Jay Mayer, 53, of Palm Springs said he has no doubt they were arrested in Dominica because they were gay. Police said it was because they were seen having sex in public on the balcony of their ship cabin. Mayer said they were not having sex, but were partially clothed.
Gay cruise: John Hart, 41, left, and Dennis Jay Mayer, 43, both of Palm Springs, California, pleaded guilty to indecent exposure after they were caught having sex The total experience was horrendous, he said. They told us that they did not like us, that they did not like gay people.
Mayer, a retired deputy sheriff, told how he and his partner of 17 years, John Robert Hart, 41, were summoned to speak to the captain wished to speak to us. We were caught off guard, he added. Three cruise ship officials and six Dominica police officers were waiting for them. After police interviewed both men separately, the assistant captain spoke, Mayer said.

They could book the next trip to Iran...
Those savages! They were mean to them!
Has anyone ever told you that ignorance of the law is no excuse? You perv.
Well, I hope their experience taught them that life in the USA is pretty darn good for a homosexual person.
I hope their experience taught them that there are parts of the world which are not so open and accomodating to their lifestyle as this country is.
I also hope they will have learned not to go to other countries and try to shove it down their throats, that they are gay and proud and all that.
I think the real world is not as tolerant as the lawyers have made the US citizens.
I have a great idea! Let’s promote a gay cruise to Yemen! Test the tolerance there!
STFU you whiney collectivist!
Uhhh . . . never mind . . . I won’t say it.
Two Butt Pirates taken captive in Dominica after being removed from their ship. Maybe they should try Somalia.
He sounds like he was tortured in a gulag and barely escaped with his life.
Romney: The Gay Community Needs More Support from the Republican Party
Apprently there is at at least one place left with some modicum of decency.
Goodness! What is all the commotion about. LOL
Normal humans do not have sex in public. Why do queers think they are exempt from the norms of human decency?
INHUMANE= f-ed in the A.
Cry me a river. Even though I agree with a Prime Minister whom I loathed when he said, “The state has no place in the bedrooms of the nation”, I have no sympathy for anyone, gay or straight, who chooses to have sex in public. If they kept it behind closed doors they wouldn’t have had a problem.
Another reason to avoid cruises.
Any good Navy man knows you don’t blow tubes in port. 8-)
the cruise ship company ALLOWS it??
How many children were on board?
Just practicing their ‘seamenship skills on deck’.
No. I don’t want to play.
Well, you know what this means.
The gay cruise liner and the gay organizers organizing this gay event, obviously HATE gay people. We need to sue.
I mean, after all, it couldn’t be us. It couldn’t be anything we did. We’re gay. We don’t have to obey any rules of common decency. If we did, we wouldn’t be gay now would we.
Dominica is sounding like a pleasant holiday destination to me.
It's part of the lifestyle.
Gay cruise line ad. If Mitt gets into the White House, we'll soon be seeing this everywhere.
One does not need to do research on common decency.
The Caymen Islands won’t allow these ships to even dock. They don’t even beat around the bush telling them how they feel about it either. That is where I would take my family.
Wonder why passengers did not claim “inhumane” treatment to be involuntarily exposed to this filthy Sodomite perversion in public.
Watch out--- Gay Pride Flotilla's..... sailing soon to a port near you.
Did you read the hilarious line about “group activities”?!
As someone who works with gay men almost every day, I cannot tell you how ignorant and stupid they are about other cultures. Gay guys has been dumbing down since the day Judy died...
I have yet to understand what the “proud” is about...that they have one? These people and their fellow passengers need psychological help to grow up.
They’re stuck in the toddler stage showing everyone their wee-wees and wanting everyone to tell them how good they are for showing them to everyone who will look and applaud. Maybe that was the best time in their lives.
I wonder which one was Long John Silver?
This is truly disgusting.
Sounds like Eric Holder and the First Fairy really get around.
2. I like how the Daily Mail suspended/are not accepting comments for the article. would have liked to read those (snicker)
3. There can't be too many jobs worse than that of cleaning the ship after the cruise is over.
4. Will refrain from "poop deck" joke
that is all.
“Mayer, a retired deputy sheriff”
What really burns my butt is that this guy is retired at 43.
Sure wish I had been smart enough to get in on the Government job racket when I was younger.
You do know, of course, that your theory is very close to Freud’s theory about homosexuality. People put the ole philosopher down but he occasionally came up with some pretty smart ideas.
The only problem here is that the gay cruise was captained and crewed by heterosexual men and women. Next time get a gay crew and let the fun begin. Joking here!!! Just don’t sail to the Caymen’s.
I immediately went to the comments section but had to laugh that they closed it down. Your joke is VERY funny.
....................I also hope they will have learned not to go to other countries and try to shove it down their throats...................
That’s an interesting choice of words for these fudge packers!!!
Obviously they were having sex in plain sight visible to people on the dock. Isn't that a bit stupid regardless of whether the sex was heterosexual or homosexual? I am certain if it was a male/female couple doing this they too would have been charged with public indecency. If these two idiots want to be attention whores, then they deserve what they get.
People have been beaten down for so long they are now willing to accept almost anything. Giving condoms to 11 year olds? How long ago would that have caused a national outcry? Now, its nothing.
Good point. A male/female couple doing such things would have been charged as well.
They seem to take the liberal view that, as part of an officially aggrieved group in the US (gay), that this gives them some special status no matter where they are in the world. They feel the right to do whatever they want, wherever they want, and nobody is allowed to say anything, lest they be called bigots.
Dominica is a long way from The Castro.
Totally misleading headline- They weren’t “thrown off”, they were just arrested. Should have really been thrown overboard.
A few years ago, Rosie O’Donnell filled a cruise ship with gay families, and sailed to the Caribbean. She said that they were denied docking somewhere there.
As much as some gay activists bitch about how bad their lives are, mainly because they can’t get legally married, and because society is so homophobic, they have it pretty darn good in America, compared to some places in the world.
Would that be on the poop deck of the S.S. Tainted Pork?
