Expected Louisiana Win May Be a Hollow Victory for Santorum.
The Hill ^ | March 24, 2012 | Cameron Joseph

Rick Santorum is likely to win Louisiana’s Saturday primary but a victory there won’t help him much, say Republican strategists.

“Winning Louisiana does nothing in the grand scheme of things,” said GOP strategist Tyler Harber. “It won’t give a huge boost of support to Rick Santorum. Winning these contests isn’t as important. It’s now about winning the delegates.”

It's to the point that most of Santorum's speeches contain more of Newt's thoughts, ideas, plans, visions than those of Santorum's speechwriters. It is really unseemly, santorum, after all, is the good christian candidate. But he never gives newt credits, or says that innocuous thing some candidates say, like I agree with my good friend and colleague, who says.... fill in the blank. He can't even do that.

"When I was speaker, we balanced the budget for four years, and when Santorum was in the leadership, they borrowed $1.7 trillion,” Gingrich said. “There’s a big difference between fiscal conservatism and politics as usual.”

Proof the American people have lost the ability to reason.

They choose the Whining Novice over a Statesman.

“Newt was his mentor. It is really sad to see, and even sadder how the people who follow him think he is this saint or something. that is the really sad part. He told his followers at a Colorado rally, “God called me to do this” - this kind of religious fervor is a very dangerous thing. Like one freeper said, santorum doesn’t seem to understand, when govt opens the door to one religion’s beliefs, it also swings the other way, given time. This is a big mess, simply because Santorum has nothing to offer as a candidate other than his behavioral goodness. “

Well, said. I dislike Santorum as much as I dislike Romney. He’s a second-string candidate who few people would have supported if he didn’t seem like the only viable anti-Romney candidate left.

... not that I believe there IS a viable anti-Romney candidate left.

Blow it out your ass...

Ouch - the pressure of buoying your guy up must be spreading - so many of you are displaying an uncivility not seen before. Just demeans FR when we stoop to coarse one-liners.

Apparently winning blue states that Romney will NEVER win in the General is more important. The GOP is as stupid as the Democrats. I can’t believe how idiotic this primary is. I am not saying that I think Santorum should win it because Newt would be fine too, but since when is winning Illinois more important to Republicans than Louisiana. Dumb GOP! That is a very accurate statement IMHO.

If you are waiting for the malicious Santorum clique to begin acting like Christians, my only advice is, don’t hold your breath.

Hey that is not fair. I think both sides are acting fine. Every Santorum supporter does not want Romney as our candidate. It seems the Newt supporters are ok with it as long as it is ABO. We are not ready for that.

Well said !

It's all about the MONEY, and the Republican Establishment Elite's determination to get their "Chosen One", even though America doesn't want him.

We're in for 4 more years of Obama, or Obama-Lite (Romney-the-RINO).

By raiding the Social Security Trust. How nice of him. If I had a huge chunk of money to take, even I could balance the budget.

So what's the point of the author writing this, and your posting it? Is it that I, and every other person who voted in Louisiana yesterday are irrelevant? That our votes count for nothing and should just be ignored? Perhaps we should just not show up and vote in the general election this fall since our opinions are worthless?

Just down the road from me in St. Martinville, is the gravestone of one Jefferson Deblanc, a Cajun USMC fighter pilot from WWII who is also a winner of the MOH. He, and countless others put everything on the line for my right to vote and to ensure my vote counted for something. Those who would argue otherwise aren't fit to shine the man's shoes.

Before you post such ignorant drivel you may want to read his MOH citation. People like Colonel Deblanc, that is to say, the people who have made America great, don't look at the numbers or the odds and give up. In fact, they openly defy them and make a difference in doing so. The same kind of apathetic, whiners now telling Rick he has no chance would have looked at then 1LT Deblanc back in the early days of the Pacific War, flying his battered Hellcat against a swarm of Zeroes and Oscars and told him he didn't have chance, either.

You may not be familiar with the concept, but free people can be full of surprises.

I was talking about the general. Mittens’ strategy has been to knock off his opponents through driving up their negatives. Unfortunately people respond to negative ads, and because no one has the money to return the favor to Mittens on the same scale as his ad buys, Mittens has managed some very weak plurality wins. He obviously needed to go negative against Newt and Santorum to “win” in Florida, Ohio, and Michigan.

It helps Newt because even in LA, with today's saturday's loss, newt won a major statewide tea party straw poll,

And exactly how many delegates does he earn with that straw poll?

The nominating proces is broken and it must be changed so states that voted for the GOP candidate in the last election have greater significance the next time around.

Romney is leading the delegate count BUT the only states that he has won that backed John McCain in 2008 are...

...Alaska, Idaho, Arizona and Wyoming.

OTOH, Rick Santorum & Newt Gingrich have 9 wins in states that voted with McCain in 2008.

In the last two week, Romney has increased his lead in delegates with wins in Illinois, Virgin islands,Guam & Puerto Rico. Despite Rick Santorum winning Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana!

Think about this for a minute. Does anybody really think that the GOP candidate will win Illinois in 2012???

I am hoping for a brokered convention because I will not vote for Mitt. And I haven’t missed an election in over 20 years!

I suppose you think you are somehow being astute or smart by posting your Alinsky comments, which, is basically Alinskying me... but we won't get into that. I post from my heart, have never read an Alinsky book in my life, which doesn't seem to be the case for you... If you want to support your candidate, learn to engage in thoughtful political discourse with your own thoughts and feelings... without throwing around some tired rules that you seem to subscribe to... had an IQ test lately?

Nice try, but not true. I'm merely pointting out which rule of Alinsky's Rules for Radicals apply to your comment.

I post from my heart, have never read an Alinsky book in my life, which doesn't seem to be the case for you...

|That's nice to know you post from the heart. your heart is filled with belittling people? (because you do it a lot). I hope not.

If you want to support your candidate, learn to engage in thoughtful political discourse with your own thoughts and feelings... without throwing around some tired rules that you seem to subscribe to...

I don't have a candidate. I don't suscribe to these Alinsky tactics; I merely pointed out that YOU are using them whether you realize it or not. You are not alone. There are a group of you who post Santorum bashing threads and then trash anyone who shows up to support him or disagree with you. That is pure Alinsky. It's a favorite of dems.

... had an IQ test lately?

and there you are.....proving my whole point. You went right back to ridiculing me, I'm assuming because you took offense that I pointed out what you were doing. Either that, or you just think posters named Girlene have a questionable IQ.

There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with other posters or expressing your viewpoint. True Believer Forever, I have noticed several times where you continue to call people names that you don't agree with. It shows your weakness in your argument when you have to resort to namecalling (IMO, of course).

Just my 2 cents.

Your hatred for Rick is shining through

What you fail to see is my hatred to lies is shining through. Rick being is in that fold - that's his problem - Mitt in it, also. as the GOP E and media.

So, stop stalking me. Your ignorance is showing.

Your paranoid is showing. I don't even know you - and SHOW ME where I ever stalk you to back up your accusation I'm stalking you.

LIARS are always into flattering themselves while 'trying' to smear another in their self righteous mode!

You need to understand something, I never say a single belittling thing to anyone until they have said it to me first, and even then, I oftentimes don’t respond because I understand how people sometimes get carried away in the midst of discussions.

You are very supportive of Santorum, and I am not really certain you’re not a Santorum supporter.

You have never once engaged me in the content of things I have said or offered in discussion, just your little jibes and comments. And by summing up my comments as mere Alinsky tactics you are trying to rob them of any meaningfulness.. nice try.

I purposely put the IQ remark in to satisfy your expectations of me, nothing more... and you took the bait.

You understand, don't you, that you are describing Newt's supporters, of which I am one, who have stayed with him through great great odds. We are working towards our third resurrection now. I am from a military family, you don't need to tell me anything about the sacrifice of our military, nor how they are suffering under their diminution by this administration... I didn't post ignorant drivel, I posted an opinion shared by many in the conservative media, and others, with about the same number disagreeing with it... of course, supporting Santorum, you are unable to fairly evaluate two sides of an argument... it's your way or the highway.
