Obama Aide Spars With Gingrich Over Fla. Killing

The killing of an unarmed black teenager in Florida became a presidential campaign issue Sunday as David Plouffe, senior adviser to President Barack Obama, fired back at Republican presidential contender Newt Gingrich.

On Friday, Mr. Obama spoke out for the first time on the killing of Trayvon Martin, saying, “If I had a son, he would look just like Trayvon.”

Mr. Gingrich, speaking Friday on Fox News’s “Sean Hannity Show,” called Mr. Obama’s statement “disgraceful,” adding, “Is the president suggesting that, if it had been a white who’d been shot, that would be OK, because it wouldn’t look like him?”

On Sunday, Mr. Plouffe called Mr. Gingrich’s comments “reprehensible” in an appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”

President Obama: "Obama's full comments [emphasis mine]: "Well, I'm the head of the executive branch and the attorney general reports to me, so I've got to be careful about my statements to make sure that we're not impairing any investigation that's taking place right now.

But, obviously, this is a tragedy. I can only imagine what these parents are going through. And when I think about this boy, I think about my own kids. And, you know, I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this and that everybody pulls together -- federal, state and local -- to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened.

So I'm glad that not only is the Justice Department looking into it, I understand now that the governor of the state of Florida has formed a task force to investigate what's taking place. I think all of us have to do some soul-searching to figure out how does something like this happen. And that means that we examine the laws and the context for what happened, as well as the specifics of the incident.

But my main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin. You know, if I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon. And, you know, I think they are right to expect that all of us, as Americans, are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves and that we're going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened."

Speaker Gingrich: “What the President said, in a sense, is disgraceful. It’s not a question of who that young man looked like. Any young American of any ethnic background should be safe. Period,” said Gingrich. “We should all be horrified no matter what the ethnic background. Is the President suggesting that if it had been a white who had been shot that would be okay because it wouldn’t look like him? That’s just nonsense.”

You know this whole thing stinks of being a top down propaganda campaign that is anti gun and pro racial operation? Since the news is coming out and we find out that Trayvon is not that cute little 10 yo in the little league photos but a 6’ teen and that the eye witnesses saw Trayvon jump and on top of Zimmerman it is beginning to unravel for Obama and his minions.I guess OWS didn’t work so well so they thought they would try another angle?

Who could have said it better than Gingrich; yet he trails in the delegate count. Go figure.

Hussein got caught trying to whip up race hate but his flunky has the nerve to blame Gingrich!

David “Fluff” will learn quickly that it’s not a smart move to come unarmed to an intellectual contest with Gingrich.

Reverse it - What if President Bush had ‘identified’ with a white victim of a black man? Would the press be breathless in their hero worship?

Obama was (yet again) using his skill set as “community organizer” to rally the mob in a race baiting, base mobilizing push.

Newt's right. 0bama demeans the Presidency once again.

Similar to the "Beer Summit" he improperly interjects the Presidency into a local law enforcement issue.

And, shamefully, he makes it ALL about race ... and ALL about himself.

These facts truly make 0bama's statement "disgraceful".

The fact that 0bama sends Plouffe out to respond shows that Newt is right on target. [the flak is heaviest right over the target]

Gingrich, win or not, is a valuable commentator. IMO, he should replace Andrew Breitbart, and I feel he could be up to the task to do it.

There would be no chance of Obama 2012, if he can't actively nurture racial grievances to keep people angry and separate.

I hope Latinos are getting a nice whiff of what these people are all about. Libs are only catering to them for votes to keep the commies in power. The treatment of Zimmerman is what they think about Hispanics. Even Reuters is trying to make some cover for the libs by calling Zimmerman a “white Hispanic”.

We need to use this to our advantage. Make sure Latinos realize that they are as hated as whites by these people and that the commies will do nothing for them but use them.

I know. I am really disappointed in the electorate. Newt is the man who should be the next President of the United States of America.

With this story “front and center”, will anyone even notice the Supreme Court taking up Obamacare on Monday?

When you think about it, it’s the same strategy Satan uses by dividing humans and causing strife between mankind. Obama is a Christian though, so nothing to see here... /s

Totally wrong in my opinion for the President to have said this BEFORE all the evidence is known!!!!

I give newt credit on this one, however, I still believe he is off base on the scenario of this event, however that’s understandable seeing as how the US media is a bunch of lying, deceitful, evil b@stards.
