A Gun Behind Every Blade of Grass
Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto expressed an appropriate comment in the 1940s (though many believe the forthcoming statement was actually propaganda originated in the U.S. and stated by American press outlets, and not the Admiral).
You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.
Whether or not Yamamoto ever actually said those words, doesnt diminish the facts as they stand. As appropriate as that statement was in the 40s it is perhaps much more appropriate now as the U.S. appetite for guns has evolved into something worthy of a talking to from the Catholic priest, worried about a nations gluttonous behavior.
About 8-9 million guns are produced each year worldwide by best estimates; some 4.6 million (last reasonable estimate was made in 2006 Q4) of those end up in the hands of Americans, approximately 50% of total global production. Estimates of 100 million guns in private hands are accurate on the low end, with some sources stating total gun volumes are nearing 350 million in private hands and somewhere near 475million with active Military arms included.
In the cold war, it was perhaps a better setting for the Russians to invade as they had the motive, the means and certainly the access to stage such an attack. Perhaps even, at one point they considered it, during the height of espionage and before they were fighting in the Afghan front against Osama bin Laden and his people. But movies like Red Dawn, as interesting and fun to watch as they were, display only a rudimentary and poorly planned execution of an invasion by a foreign superpower. In the movie (which is what most internet scholars reference when talking about this concern of invasion) the invading force, focuses on small town areas, and then uses their supplies and corral techniques to sustain their force. Surely this method is a better thought out plan than what is seen in internet forums, with container ships and major port cities playing a major role in these doomsday scenarios.
There is a problem with all the theories though: they all forget to factor in that the United States is the most well trained and well supplied military, with more bases and military installations in the United States than are even necessary. The U.S. Armed Forces have Air superiority, Sea superiority, Intelligence superiority and vast allies throughout the world, not to mention, the best kept borders and the ability to pretty much manufacture or supply everything from thousands of different locations around the globe through its allied relationships and wide footprint of companies and military facilities.

Why bother invading? Our government will hand you the keys to the treasury and demand that the people who are already here accept you. Any resistance will be labelled as a “phobia”. Oh sure, this method takes longer than a D-Day, but it is relatively bloodless and, if you have a generation or two, guaranteed to succeed.
Military invasion no, but the fact that we have 10s of millions of illegal aliens here tells a different story.
I agreed with everything until that little nugget.
Our borders are a joke....
An invasion makes no sense for a foreign power. The USA would be worth more without all those pesky Americans living in it. A biological or chemical attack makes the most sense.
The ridiculously low likelihood of another country (or even an alliance of such) directly and militarily invading our country has very little to do with privately-held weapons, numerous as they are.
It has everything to do with what has kept us safe for centuries: broad oceans off of either coast and the fact that we’re a HUGE country.
Logistics still count, folks. We have far, far worse threats to our sovereignty and freedoms than a military invasion....and far more real.
Borders, guns, money, fists....none of it matters without the will to fight, and we haven’t sufficient will to fight.
What will we have, is diminishing with increasing numbers of people who are culturally non-Americans, and some of them are of families that have been in this country many generations (career welfare recipients for example).
We let most anyone in, their numbers increase; we contribute to destructive welfare programs (cash, food stamps, tuition assistance, medical assistance, public schooling) via our taxes. We will continue to do so. No one dares stop paying taxes, much less fight.
I dated a Serbian woman for a while. She says we’re screwed.
She’s right. Bosnia is what America will be. We tend to think in Civil War terms (North vs South) where the two differing populations lived in separate states. We’re too integrated and no one will be willing to pick up and move in a massive racial reorganization of the country. We’ll stay where we are and fight for “our” homes against a half dozen other ethnic groups claiming that same home as theirs.
The premise of another large country such as China invading a united United States is ludicrous. If we look back in history, large scale subjugation of different peoples has been difficult. It took decades for the ancient superpower Rome to subjugate Gaul and Spain.
It would have been more interesting if the author considered a foreign invasion of a dis-United States. Suppose if the Leftists have their way, 0-care is in place, the Constitution is toilet paper, and a police state emerges with random checkpoints and FEMA camps. Then, some governors of powerful and independent states (AK, TX) emerge and resist. I think that some of us would welcome some direct or indirect help from foreign sources.
Cancer from within can bring this country down. No matter how srong, healthy or in shape you are, if you get certain types of cancer and can't control it .............
Two cancers this most powerful country on earth have are: Illegal immigration, and Islamic cancers.
We don't seem be treating either of those fatal problems. -tom
When a muslim bisexual America-hater is the Commander-in-Chief, WHO CARES about an invasion by uniformed foreigners?
Our Prez IS a foreigner and we don’t know anything about him.
He is a stranger.
The threat is from WITHIN. Who knows what he’ll do?
Indeed not even HE knows.
Tens of millions of illegals and no one thinks that an army of irregulars is not here?
I’m not saying they are but our borders have been open for a long time and you cannot discount the fact that a million people could have come here with mayhem on their minds
No one dares stop paying taxes

I have always found that odd. They circumvent them but are terrified of a full blown tax revolt. If it ever did happen, it would bring a rogue government to it’s knees almost instantly.
“At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.

I agree. I didn’t write the article, I just found it interesting.
I think he knows-—
He just doesn’t have his timetable cemented in stone yet.
Scandinavia is FAMOUSLY open to foreigners. They’re TOLERANT. They’re so open-minded their brains fell out:
Know what happened in Denmark when they tried to put a muzzie invader on trial?
His thug invader buddies decked themselves out in body armor and attacked the court-house with bats, knives and 2 x 4’s.
One more thing — THERE WERE NINETY OF THEM. Turn it over slowly in your mind —Ninety guys in body armor attacking a court-house.
THAT is the type of threat we’re in for; People who have UTTER CONFIDENCE that they want our homeland more than we appear to them to want it.
We have a leadership, and the enemy does too, and they judge that their will-power is the stronger.
That’s an interesting graphic and I don’t doubt it as an indicator of general trends but I wonder at its accuracy regarding my state (Washington). Illegals are like a plague here. There is literally no place one can go and not encounter them.
And that’s just western Washington - the east side is even more pronounced. Now, a leftist would read this and (after calling me racist) scold me that not all hispanics are illegals. Yep, I acknowledge that, but characteristics such as non-English speaking (or comprehending), along with anti-American attitudes tend to give them away.
Furthermore, as a “sanctuary state” we deliberately don’t keep stats on who is and isn’t here legally. I don’t think that we’re as overrun as the border states, but we’re definitely in the “pink”.
I don't mind the aliens as much as the Democrat Traitors that occupy the White House, Senate and the Federal Court System. They are openly hostile to the principles of the Declaration of Independence.
Or, an EMP attack. One over Louisville, KY, one over Salt Lake City, UT. Wait maybe a year. The US is all yours. Granted, the electrical infrastructure will need to be repaired.
Any pics ?
Not in my vicinity.
We are imploding from within - no need to invade.
NJ is filled with illegals; if they weren’t here whole areas would be de-populated. The government workers that would end up out of work are fighting to allow them to stay, and hoping more come; they get paid either way (even when the “clients” don’t pay taxes).
Companies and taxpayers that work for them are fleeing the state in response.
That and a growing violent inner city underclass, along with illegal aliens, may present a major hostile force to be dealt with.
I can only shake my head at this...
Not likely? Tell that to the Mexicans who are invading and colonizing by the millions...
That's good news. Better news is that the vast majority of small arms and ammo in the USA is widely distributed across the country, and most are in the possession of relatively conservative owners.
Some bad news is that about 59 million people voted for a known communist, muslim, anti-American, non-American usurper for president in 2008, and these same turnip-level IQ commies infest just about every organization in the country, including the 20% of Republican voters who are now so avidly supporting the crony communist RINO Romney to replace the current occupant.
The threat of outside invaders is not so great as that from the internal enemies of the USA.
Exactly. The American Indian knows that an invasion from Europe was very successful in the past.
But that’s the problem, isn’t it?
The attack on Pearl Harbor was not rational.
September 11 was not rational.
I think we also underestimate the risk of drone aircraft.
It would not be a technical challenge to build a WW2 style atomic bomb, sail it on a commercial vessel 250 miles off the USA coast, hook it to the bottom of drone, launch into the wind with a basic catapult device, and detonate it over New York City at 3 AM.
They will not need to “invade.”. They will show up in grey suits, with the sherif and an eviction notice.
From the Japanese perspective the attack on Pearl was absolutely rational. If they could take out our fleet they would be free to get the oil and rubber they needed.
And remember, it was a surprise to us, not the Imperial Navy.
Strategically, however, Japan gambled everything on their perception of FDR as a weak and easily frightened leader (a fair judgment, in my opinion) , and, less so, on their perception of Americans as disorganized, spoiled, and lazy.
The idea was to give America a shocking defeat, then negotiate a settlement, or, bleed America into a negotiated stalemate, which is what happened in Korea and Vietnam in later years.
But they gambled their lives and the destruction of their country on pure speculation about the future.
That was not rational.
The same could be said about the Battle of the Bulge.
Germany's assault was a complete tactical shock.....because it made absolutely no sense.
Hitler's goal was to split the American and British forces, then negotiate a settlement, or, ultimately convince the Allies to join Germany's fight against the Soviet Union.
That was completely irrational.
On the other hand, I'm someone who has always maintained that Hitler's assault on the Soviet Union in 1941 was, in fact, completely rational from a military point of view.
Hitler believed, quite reasonably, that the Ukraine and White Russia would greet the Germans as liberators from the Stalinist tyranny.
But then Hitler did something completely irrational.
He almost immediately began to slaughter Jews, slaughter the bureaucrats, evict farmers and home owners for German resettlement, and starve to death captured Soviet soldiers.
People made the obvious choice.....
Fight for the Demon you know - Stalin - or fight for the Demon you don't know - Hitler.
