Churches all across the country paid tribute to slain teenager Trayvon Martin on Sunday, some by encouraging their parishioners to wear hoodies.
But Father Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina’s Parish in Chicago, took things a step further. As seen on WGN’s “News at Nine” on Sunday, Pfleger spoke to his congregation with an unusual prop: Martin’s likeness was slumped at the church altar, complete with a red hoodie, a bag of Skittles and an Arizona Ice Tea.
Pfleger encouraged his congregation to be proactive in their response to the shooting.

Whatever Trayvon Martin might have been when he was killed, it appears to me that he was travelling on a downward slope that would ultimately have ended in prison or worse. The real scandal, repeated thousands of times with black youth, is the exposure to a culture that demonizes authority, glorifies ignorance, promotes violence and glamorizes crime. And to their everlasting shame, it’s a culture both winked at and actively endorsed by “good” black people and their institutions.
Unfortunately, if true, it is reported that of 13 shootings resulting from the Florida law, 12 of the people shot had no weapon on them when they were shot. Apparently the legal and legislative establishment is disturbed enough that they are going to revisit this law.

Suspension On Wednesday, April 27, 2011, the homepage of the website of the Archdiocese of Chicago released a statement from Cardinal Francis George in the form of a letter, temporarily suspending Father Pfleger from administering any of the sacraments (save for the administration of the Sacrament of Penance in an emergency, which even laicized or excommunicated priests may do) and from his active ministry as pastor of St. Sabina's Parish. George had recently suggested that Pfleger take the position of president at Chicago's Leo High School, but Pfleger said he would consider leaving the Catholic Church if forced to leave his parish. Cardinal George replied, in part, "If that is truly your attitude, you have already left the Catholic Church." [32] Cardinal George lifted the suspension on May 20, 2011.[33]

What is the background of the other 12 shootings? How many of the people shot were trying to break into a house? Armed or not, you enter a house and put others in fear for their safety you get what you deserve.

It is not shameful to assess and then project based on real probability.

The purpose of a defensive firearm is protect a person from assault by bigger stronger thugs, who do not need a weapon to kill you.
To a mugger, the ideal victim is weak, elderly, female, or otherwise easily overpowered without need of weapons, because assault with a weapon results in more serious charges than using your fists and feet. And as SimpleMan points out, a strong man in his prime can kill a weaker victim with just fists and feet.

Any self respecting Catholic who attends mass presided by this fraud Father Pfleger ought to have their head examined.
