China Does Nothing to Stop Counterfeit Defense Parts; Findings 'Should Outrage Every American'

CAPITOL HILL: "These findings should outrage every American."

Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, is a tough former prosecutor but he rarely offers such sweeping condemnations as he did today when releasing the findings of a congressional sting operation designed to test whether China had changed its ways and had started combating counterfeit defense parts.

"The Chinese government's refusal to shut down counterfeiting that occurs openly in their country puts our national security and the safety of our military men and women at risk. Not only that, but it also costs thousands of American jobs," Levin said in a statement.

The sting was run by investigators from the Government Accountability Office (GAO). They bought parts for the Air Force's F-15 fighter, the Maverick missile, the Marine Corps' V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, and the Navy's Los Angeles-class nuclear submarine. All the parts bought "failed inspection and were determined to be counterfeit."

One part bought by GAO was an amplifier used found in the Army and Air Force's Joint Surveillance and Target Attack Radar System, the Air Force's F-15 fighter, and the Maverick AGM-65A missile. It's designed to convert incoming voltage into outputs that can be hundreds to thousands of times higher. If

I thought this was satire. We are actually buying defense parts from China?! What in the name of all that’s intelligent are we doing buying DEFENSE PARTS from China? OF COURSE they are going to be faulty.

We’re morons. When you let (or provide assistance, as in the case of GE) nearly all the electronics parts manufacturing move off shore, this is what you get.

The Chinese must be having a knee slapper right now. They buy scrap metal from the U.S. and sell the same scrap metal back at a higher price.

Personally I believe we should try out a threat of a China to US embargo.

Do not let the cargo ships offload in America, stop them at sea if needed.

Though not a majority of Chinese products are bad its the illegal knockoffs of dangerous dubious quality.

They already have. We just don't know yet.

I don’t understand how journalists can write this. China isn’t accidentally supplying parts. They are purposely supplying parts to weaken us an allow for espionage.
It is no different than their counterfeit routers and firewalls that they use for hacking.
Duncan Hunter was speaking about this in 2007. He was ostracized by the media. Fox, CNN, and GE/NBC, Viacom and Hollywood had already sold out to China.

“They already have. We just don’t know yet.”

Every American can clearly see that we’d be better off with an embargo against Red China in the same manner as that against Cuba (and with valid reasons to do so). Our corporations (which have no nationality) have profited from the relationship, but the American public has lost a great deal through it. Our middle class is disappearing, as our standard of living falls to Red China levels.

NO cheers, unfortunately.
