Government proposes first carbon limits on power plants

(Reuters) - The Obama administration proposed on Tuesday the first ever standards to cut carbon dioxide emissions from new power plants, a move likely to be hotly contested by Republicans and industry in an election year.

The Environmental Protection Agency proposed the long-delayed rules that limit emissions from all new U.S. power stations, which would effectively bar the building of any new coal plants.

While the rules do not dictate which fuels a plant can burn, they would require any new coal plants essentially to halve carbon dioxide emissions to match those of efficient gas plants.

"We're putting in place a standard that relies on the use of clean, American made technology to tackle a challenge that we can't leave to our kids and grandkids," EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said in a release.

How do these people make laws without Congressional authority? And when will Congress yank a knot in their tails?

Electric rates will become too high to run an electric car. Need to switch back to fossil fuel.

When dealing with a libtard, you need to lower your conversation to a level they are capable of understanding.

“Which releases the least amount of smoke, a coal-fired power plant, with emission scrubbers - who provide power to 150,000 homes; or 150,000 fireplaces burning whatever can be found, in an effort not to have the inhabitants freeze to death?”

Making electric rates “necessarily skyrocket” and bankrupting coal fired electric plants...this is your president on task.

Back door “Cap and Trade”. Or Obama doing through his minions at the EPA what he couldn't do legislatively. The goal is to set the limits on CO2 so low, that power plant operators will beg congress for a “Cap and Trade” framework so they will have some flexibility in meeting the standards.

So, if somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can — it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted. - Barack Obama

The man is telling us what he’s going to do to us, too bad so few of us listen. But don’t worry, his second term won’t be so bad, because a RINO would be worse.

Showing and telling. He's a Marxist subversive who is deliberately and systematically gutting the US economy.

Just a sample of 0’s second term. He's already told the Russians that a second term will mean he will overturn US security interests. And now he's announcing that he'll destroy what's left of the domestic economy.

She is such an idiot! My husbands company posted a list of something like 15 of their units that they are retiring within the next couple years.... no new plants in site. So when ever, if ever the economy does come back, where do these morons think the electricity is going to come from?????? We have sooooo many regulations, it’s costing the consumer millions in their monthly utility bill and AlGore got a huge chunk with his “carbon credits” what a racket....

He’ll have even more flexibility after he’s re-elected. Can we take another 4 years of anti-Americanism from the WH?

Back door “Cap and Trade”.

Precisely. And when the coal plants have been taken care of you just ratchet down the permissible CO2 limits and get rid of the natural gas plants. It's all to cure childhood asthma, you know.
