Romney far behind Obama on test of basic popularity (Half of Americans view Mitt unfavorably)
Washington Post ^ | 03/28/2012 | Jon Cohen

Posted on 03/28/2012 7:51:58 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Half of all Americans now express unfavorable views of Mitt Romney, a new high for the GOP presidential hopeful in Washington Post-ABC News polling. The deteriorating public impressions of the former Massachusetts governor foreshadow a significant obstacle for him as he tries to shift the focus of his campaign toward a potential match-up against President Obama.

Romney’s negative numbers have jumped around this election cycle, but the overall pattern is similar to his trajectory four years ago: As he became better known, his unfavorables shot up far more rapidly than his positive numbers. Negative impressions are up eight percentage points in the past week, nudging past the previous high, which occurred about the time Romney suffered a big loss in the South Carolina primary.

In the new poll, 50 percent of all adults and 52 percent of registered voters express unfavorable opinions of Romney, both higher — although marginally — than Obama has received in Post-ABC polling as far back as late 2006.

However, the biggest difference between Romney and Obama is on the other side of the ledger: 53 percent of Americans hold favorable views of the president; for Romney, that number slides to 34 percent. Positive ratings of Obama steadily improved over the course of his fight for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination — something not evident in Romney’s ratings this time around, or last.

Obama’s relative low point among independents in 2008 was in mid-April, when 57 percent said they had favorable impressions and 37 percent had unfavorable ones. In the new poll, Romney is underwater with independents: 35 percent view him favorably, 52 percent unfavorably.

Good!

Hopefully the GOP will take this into consideration at convention time. We need a CONSERVATIVE nominee, not another LOSER in Willard “Mittwit” Dole McCain Obamney.

Romney is going to get crushed like a bug, maybe he wins Utah, but that’s going to be about it.

And the RINO establishment continue right along with bringing another loser liberal-lite to an election.

The establishment RINOs will get their way and the nation will be permanently destroyed with another four years of Obama. This time with even “more flexibility” to jam through his radical leftist agenda.

And it’s only going to get worse when the Hussein Train and the MSM focus on him. What a disaster.

Yep, this is great, awesome, wonderful news.

That second Obama term is going to be really good.

Oh darn! gotta speed up my plans to emigrate to Costa Rica...

...you guys can afford to make quips about it, luckily, now that it appears to be an almost nonexistant path to the White House for Romney, and he’ll have to shuffle off to do whatever he’s going to do in the future...what has amused me for the past months in this forum is the certain conviction that Romney couldnd’t beat Obama, which appears to be true, but that Newt could...talk about heads stuck in the sand. However slim the path for Mitt, for Newt it never existed, as Ann Coulter well knew and had to endure some shots for saying so...
at any rate, four more years of an attenuated Obama presidency appear inevitable, at the end of which the prospects for Republican victory may be sky high, as this administration has malperformed badly...

It looks like Romney is inevitable and I am not voting for him in the general. Time to get behind a 3rd party candidate.

The GOP nomenklatura have the candidate they want. Since it was rescued from near death in 2010 by the Tea Party, the GOP has put its principal efforts towards suppressing, dividing and institutionalizing the Tea Party, and has pretty much succeeded across the board.

This election cycle is a scrub. Conservatives and principled libertarians will achieve nothing until they cut lose from the false front operation known as the GOP.

“. . .now that it appears to be an almost nonexistant path to the White House for Romney, and he’ll have to shuffle off to do whatever he’s going to do in the future...”

The fact Romney, in the middle of an economic depression, is undertaking a $12 million renovation to a home in the wealthy enclave of La Jolla, CA suggests he does not expect to win the election if he captures the nomination. If he is truly the brilliant business executive his handlers portray, he would not be so tone deaf as to know this conspicuous display of wealth will not play well with the middle class and will be used against him by the progressives. It made yesterday’s New York Times and will certainly appear in TV ads as soon as Romney becomes the nominee. http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/03/27/for-romney-a-four-car-garage-with-its-own-elevator/

The way this is playing out I’m convinced the Republican elites decided long ago to throw this election to Obama and the Democrats. Like McCain, who didn’t know how many houses his family owned (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12700.html), Romney’s behavior is not congruent with a candidate who needs to attract both conservative and independent voters. This leads us to the question: What do Romney and the establishment get in return for facilitating another 4 years of Obama? McCain price was cheap, he gets to continue being the token Republican on the Sunday morning talk show circuit.

Forget this bogus poll. It samples all adults and does not reveal the weighting of Democrats versus Republicans and Independents. Not revealing that means they heavily over sampled Dems.

“The way this is playing out I’m convinced the Republican elites decided long ago to throw this election to Obama and the Democrats.”

They work together, towards the same ends.

Just wait until the American people actually get to know Romney.

Then they’ll REALLY dislike him.

That’s fine with me. My message would be: stop shoving RINOs down our throat. I voted for McCain, but I am not voting for Romney. I won’t even sit it out or stay quiet. I will be on here and in public campaigning against him. I’d rather have Obama with a republican house than Romney with a republican house anyway. At least while Obama is in there, he has opposition.

Cancel the election. Put Obama in power for as long as he wants to have it, since no Republican is perfect and Reagan will only be resurrected when Jesus returns. (off sarcasm)

Our family, on paper, should be Mitt’s demographic;

he is despised by almost everyone in the household
