Obama lawyer asks Supreme Court to save healthcare law

(Reuters) - The Obama administration's top courtroom lawyer made an impassioned plea on Wednesday for the Supreme Court to save President Barack Obama's healthcare law, capping three days of historic arguments that left it unclear how the nine justices would rule.

Having peppered the lawyers defending and challenging the law with questions for more than six hours over the three days, the justices withdrew to their chambers to begin up to three months of deliberation expected to yield a decision by late June.

Obama's healthcare overhaul, signed into law two years ago, is his signature domestic policy achievement. It remains a divisive issue among Americans and is likely to be an key issue ahead of the November 6 election in which he seeks a second term.

The justices took up two final issues on the last day of arguments on Wednesday: whether the rest of the law could stand if the centerpiece requirement that most Americans get insurance or face a penalty is struck down; and the validity of expanding the state-federal Medicaid healthcare program for the poor.

After what critics called a poor performance on Tuesday, U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli, arguing for the administration, closed his case with an emotional request that the justices uphold the law. Verrilli cited millions of people with chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and breast cancer who would get health insurance under the law.

"Verrilli cited millions of people with chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and breast cancer who would get health insurance under the law."

Yes; but he neglects to mention that OTHER AMERICANS have to PAY for it, but that's wealth-redistribution dictated by the Progressives, so that makes it okay....to Hell with the Constitution and individual CHOICE and individual RESPONSIBILITY!!

"I have very little faith that the SC will kill the bill. They are no different that the mass of idiots that govern us."

Sadly, this "Decision" is a no-brainer, if one reads the Constitution, and has a modicum of common sense.

I'm afraid that this is a done-deal, decisions have already been made, and it is gonna be the end of Freedom going forward.

You can then stick a fork in the USA.

The muslim is going to find out it is not nice to criticize the SC during a state of the union address. The chickens are coming home to roost.

Verrilli was arguing on emotions.....as usual. How many people die or don’t die has nothing to do with whether or not the bill is constitutional.

“Pelosi, and Reid are the real culprits.”

They are definitely the out-front culprits, and not sure if I’m remembering correctly, but back during the fight I read something about Tom Daschle being responsible for a major part of it.

It's in the liberal playbook - when you have no logical argument, invoke emotion.

Obama lawyer asks Supreme Court to save healthcare law

Precisely why they should burn it.

Overturning Obamacare MAY, just MAY give our country a second chance to live.

If it isn't, I don't see how we survive as an intact Republic. And maybe we aren't one even now.

The whole thing is about POWER, and wealth-redistribution.

Progressives could care less about casualties, as long as they can take Taxpayer money and buy votes, and continue to dictate what people can or cannot do, based on THEIR ideas which are soooooooooo much more intelligent than "We The People".

Politics will come into play naturally and this is the bottom line.

26 States Are against.
24 have not yet filed against it’s repeal.

So on that .. repeal.

More than 50% of All americans have always been against Obama care and that number has only gotten worse. REPEAL

Obama made his argument against Hillary As it was pointed out on the first day and used against him on the individual mandate. Repeal.

It is 2700 pages of a mess - repeal

It is far over reaching in power - repeal

It was not bi-partisan - it passed on a democratic ticket only. NOT one republican went for this mess. REPEAL.

all it has going for it is one socialist in the white house who is going to use thuggery - Lets see who they side with

America or the socialist.

This law was not started by this Congress or this President. It was pulled out of some RAT'S desk drawer where it was gathering dust waiting for just such a confluence of RAT legislature control and their MANCHURIN CANDIDATE in the WH. No more complicated than that. Zero and cast of clowns couldn't cobble this together. Why do you think PIGLOSI infamously said “We have to pass this bill to find out what is in it”? This crop of RATS just simply put their final touches on it, such as the gold sale and thousands of additional gestapo like IRS agents.

It won’t pass muster with the Constitution at the SCOTUS.

It won’t pass the SCOTUS.

I have been listening to some of the recorded questions and answers, following the wjs blog, and the posts here. I believe that the law is unconstitutional but I still am not sure that reason will prevail.
