WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A finance executive at MF Global Holdings Ltd invoked her right against self-incrimination as lawmakers heard from officials who played critical roles in the final days of the futures brokerage, when a huge and still unexplained shortfall in customer money surfaced.

Assistant Treasurer Edith O'Brien, believed to have been involved in authorizing a $175 million transfer that may have included customer funds, three days before MF Global's bankruptcy filing on October 31, declined to testify on Wednesday.

"On advice of counsel I respectfully decline to answer based on my constitutional right," she told subcommittee chairman Randy Neugebauer when asked whether she gave former MF Global Chief Executive Jon Corzine assurances that the fund transfer was proper.

She invoked her right not to testify in response to other questions from the oversight panel of the House Financial Services Committee before Neugebauer excused her.

"I am disappointed because of your answer because I believe that you have important knowledge," said Neugebauer, a Texas Republican.

The panel is examining why an estimated $1.6 billion of customer money has gone missing, and the extent to which Corzine and other officials might be responsible.

MF Global filed for protection from creditors after investors and customers became rattled over the firm's $6.3 billion bet on European sovereign debt and downgrades by credit rating agencies, resulting in a liquidity crunch.

I can think of 1.7 Billion reasons why this lady will not be testifying. And many of those reasons probably involve continuing to breath until she reaches a ripe-old-age.

The 5th amendment always means something to these leftist criminals but of the others mean nothing. That says a lot.

Two things should happen here. Corzine and other Execs should go to jail. Second, the customer money should be clawed back from those who got it. That is the only way to prevent similiar things from happening again. People receiving stolen money or merchandise don’t get to keep it.

"See, Barry, I told you she wouldn't say nothing...she knows what would happen."

There has so far been no smoking gun to suggest criminal intent

THe best thing to do now, or if there is a Republican administration next year, is to sic the IRS on everyone connected to MF Global to see if they got an unusual sum of money. And I mean every employee. Jail time for lying to the IRS is pretty steep and some of the lower lifeforms will crack and spill the beans, or they will “Sleep with Bubba,” including the women.

Time to go medieval on their asses.

This is just another Dog and Pony show to keep us occupied. If congress were serious they would have Granted the Witnesses some sort of immunity, then they could not take the 5th. They would be in Contempt of Congress for refusing to answer, and could be JAILED IMMEDIATELY INDEFINITLY.

And by the way the Witness has no CHOICE WHATSOEVER when granted immunity. Move Along now there is nothing more to see

While it would have been nice to hear Edith bring down Corzine in front of the TV cameras, L/E has even better evidence to nail the MF crooks. A paper trail-----the actual wire transfers of their thievery.

===============================================

And while L/E is at it, let me make a few suggestions.

I give you The Corzine financial conspiracies list---ripe for L/E:

(1) rigging NJ municipal bond sales (the financial bloodline of the G/S parasites). Gov Corzine gave the woman heading up the NJ muni-bonds program a lucrative six-figure perch on the NJ/NY Pork Authority and even pumped her pension. If that's not a payoff "for services rendered", nothing is.

(2) suspicions that Gov Corzine rigged financial bombs in the $85 billion NJ pension system that will go off after he got kicked out of NJ govt.

(3) (GLOAT) THIS COULD BRING DOWN CORZINE AND OTHER SENATORS As a US Sen, Corzine got a bill passed which gave tax benefits to a Japanese bank which had been taken over by the trustee of Jonny's "blind trust" ---- trustee C. Flowers was a G/S crony and is a principal in MF Global. "Financial genius" Corzine said "he did not know" his Senate bill benefited him.

(4) NOTE Few US Senators had first-hand knowledge about the Japanese bank. Jon HAD to have made insider deals---giving inside financial tips to members of the exclusive "Senate Enrichment Club" to get the bill passed.

She should NOT have been allowed to take the fifth.

Edith had already forfeited her rights when she announced Corzine’s activities publicly.

Refusing to tell Congress what she knew was obstruction of justice.
