(CNN) -- The National Council of La Raza responded to accusations on Wednesday by critics such as conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh that the civil rights organization has not been vocal enough during the Trayvon Martin controversy.
"We really regret people trying to use this to divide blacks and Latinos," said Lisa Navarrete, a spokeswoman for La Raza. "It's disturbing to us that Rush Limbaugh has this theory. The only time he apparently cares about what happens to a Latino is when they may have happened to kill a young African-American man."
In response to a caller on his radio program on Tuesday, Limbaugh suggested La Raza, the largest national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, has not stood behind Zimmerman after it was publicized that he identified himself as Hispanic.
"You know, that's an interesting point," Limbaugh said in response to his caller. "You're right. I haven't heard a word from La Raza about this."
Limbaugh went on to criticize the group's president, Janet Murguia, for not referencing Zimmerman as Hispanic in her sole commentary on the Trayvon Martin incident, which was released on March 22.
"The fact that George Zimmerman is Latino is irrelevant to his actions," Navarette, who is an adviser to Murguia, said in response to the criticism. "Personally that's the media's fault. Everything has to fit into a narrative and a paradigm. Initially it was a white guy who shot a black kid. Now they've split the difference," she said.
"Unfortunately, being Hispanic does not mean that you aren't capable of bigotry or discrimination," Navarette said of Zimmerman's ethnicity. "It does not condone or preclude him from having acted in a discriminatory manner."

It’s funny really how La Raza is taking such deep umbrage at Rush Limbaugh, who supposedly is listened to by almost no black or Hispanic people.
Is Rush trying to split them up, of course not. But he’s highlighting the usual liberal hypocrisy for the edification and amusement of his conservative audience. If that splits them up then their houses truly were houses of cards.
And the only time YOU care about a Latino is when the perp is white. So STFU.

That’s obvious. When blacks and latinos join organizations such as the black panthers and la raza, it is crystal clear just how racist they are.
I’d say, to La Raza Zimmerman is a half-breed. They are confused as to whether or not to stand up for him.
Sounds to me like La Raza is liberal/Democrat/Obama first and Hispanic 2nd.

They’re showing some video now purporting to show George Zimmerman being escorted from the police cruiser to the police station, back when he was taken in for questioning.
The tele-reporter breathlessly informs us that there is “fresh controversy” due to there being no visible bruises or blood on him.
Of course the video is as grainy as 7-11 surveillance footage so that it is difficult to tell if it even is GZ, but anyway, even if he was cleaned up and you cannot really see his face, much less bruises, that’s the new information being fed to us by the Ministry of Truth (minitru) and presumably its MSM satellites as well.
