Pro-Romney 'super PAC' nears $40 million spent against Santorum, Newt

If attracting the attention – and the dollars – of the "super PAC" backing Mitt Romney is any indication of clout in the 2012 presidential campaign, Rick Santorum notched a new distinction this week as he became the candidate who had suffered the largest barrage of negative spending by the PAC.

As this interactive graphic shows, the pro-Romney “Restore Our Future” super PAC has been the powerhouse in the presidential race, spending more than $39 million since early December to oppose Santorum and Newt Gingrich.

Gingrich had been the key target in December and January, but that trend shifted suddenly in early February as Gingrich failed to build on his win in South Carolina and Santorum started picking up victories.

As of this week, Restore Our Future has now spent more than $20 million to oppose Santorum, compared with $18.7 million to oppose Gingrich.

The bulk of the Super Pac ads went after Newt. The ads were relentless and hit the airwaves 24/7. Santorum was rarely attacked in the beginning..the goal was to take out Newt.

Supreme Court made a huge mistake ruling in favor of super pacs.

I will never forgive the lies and smears run against Newt in Iowa. Thought there was 10 million in negative ads in Iowa alone and 25 million in Fla. Toss in the other states inbetween and it is amazing Newt is still in the race.

Spot on! newt Gingrich was the only serious rival and he had to be taken out first, which permitted the accidental candidate to rise.

As far as I am concerned...neither Romney or Santorum are worthy enough to shine Newt's shoes. Reading Newt's solutions, knowing his record..the man is a true mover and shaker. Too bad the voters are so uninformed and hung up on the Pelosi picture which is absurd.

I do believe we will be stuck with Romney vs. Obama and I am so discouraged regarding the future of our country.

I’m right there with you.

Newt Gingrich all the way and Rush Limbaugh played games right before Florida: “my brother David likes Santorum.”

Thanks a lot, Rush. Your brother doesn’t vote in Florida, but you do.

All those morons in Washington DC, who are “endorsing” Romney in droves, will be held co-responsible in his November shameful defeat and in the death of the GOP.

..the goal was to take out Newt.

Oh yes, and it cost more than a bundle to do that and still he stands! Speaks volumes....the man knows when he is right and he is right that neither of the other candidates can do what he wants to, and can, for this nation.

In their eyes now Newt's the wild card because they haven't a clue what he will do next...all they know is they may have taken him down but he is in no wise out and made this very clear. Eyes are focused now on convention and the media and Republican Elites and Obama do not want this to go to convention.....we'll be seeing the scumbags working hard to prevent this...if left to Obama alone we'll be seeing a national emergency about that time.

It's worse than an eye opener....it's more like they're living in the matrix!!! Truly!...and we're trying to get them to face reality.

Between the voters who call themselves moderates, which in reality they haven't a clue what the game is about let alone the candidates, to the candidates who get sucker punched by every bit of bait the democrates put out there and wonder what happened after the fact....I'm of course refering to Santorum on that note...at any rate this is about the most insane primary I've ever seen and it's all because the media is being pimped out by the enemies of this country, and I fully believe that.
