If it were up to Newt Gingrich, when Republicans gather for the 4-day party that is their national convention in August, the GOP will remain divided...

That scenario will open up the possibility of a "brokered" convention in August, one in which any of the candidates can win.

Slim though the odds of that happening may be, a busted convention could deepen the wounds opened by two key primary voting groups: those who like Mitt Romney and those who think he's too moderate for the Republican Party.

Yet Gingrich's supporters think that a convention fight would not only help the former House speaker, but that it would even help the party by stirring up more interest and enthusiasm for the outcome.....

Right now that predetermined candidate would be Romney. Though some Republicans have questioned the establishment candidate, given what seems to be his inability to lock up the nomination quickly and fend off fringe candidates like Rick Santorum, the former Massachusetts governor's path has certainly become clearer after recent wins.

His conservative challengers have still vowed to block him at every turn, and right-wing figures -- as well as more and more tea party members -- have smiled at the idea of a convention in which Romney hasn't collected the 1,144 delegates needed to anoint him as the general election candidate.

"The focus that we've traditionally annunciated for a convention — 'Oh, it's time to come together, we need to smooth things over, we can't have any dissension' — is perhaps some of the reason that in recent elections, we haven't done that well," Barr said. "We still have very much an open field out there. ... A lot of Republicans don't feel comfortable with Romney as the nominee."

I agree with you- but the GOP electorate is consumed with this notion of “electability”. Those outside his base are going to weigh these statements relative to his general appeal- his electability— so, I don’t think it helps.

Which is pretty pathetic. The GOP and their RINO media cohorts pushed this notion of "electability" hard from the beginning because they knew it was the ONLY argument on which they could possibly sell people on Romney. Since he had absolutely nothing in his record that would appeal to Republican voters. By pushing this electability meme, they "reprogram" voters into looking for the most moderate, or even left-of-center candidate, even though their natural instincts were to look for the conservative candidate. It's an insidious tactic and of course it's sad so many of the sheeple fell for it.

I think Karl Rove et al want to sever the GOP’s dependency on evangelicals’ approval. I remember last cycle he was pushing the concept that McCain could win without the evangelical vote. Maybe he thinks if he can purge the party of their influence, he could attract enough others from the left to beat them.

I’m in once Romney loses and we get a conservative nominee.
I also support a Brokered convention to yell at the GOP-E and those trying to corrupt any conservative movement like the tea party.

....."Winning Our Future, the "super PAC" supporting Gingrich that has been funded by the billionaire casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson, says it has no plans to change the direction of its pro-Gingrich advertising strategy even as the candidate eyes Tampa — though the group could shift from targeting primary voters to rounding up delegates in a whip style reminiscent of votes in Congress.

A senior adviser to the PAC, Rick Tyler, said that it could become "more focused on communicating more directly with the delegates."

"I've never looked at us as one thing or the other," Tyler said when asked about the nature of the super PAC's money-focused operations. "I've always felt that we have the mandate to do what is necessary."..... ___________________________________________

Newt Gingrich is going after unpledged delegates - "soft" delegates that haven't committed in primaries already completed, including all the PA (72) and MT (26) and (IL (69) delegates, since these delegates remain unpledged regardless of primary vote.

Romney and Santorum cannot see beyond their political asperations.....Newt on the other hand sees the country and the party. You can see that clearly in every speech he gives...it’s about us and it’s about putting this nation back under God.

He already made History....he has nothing to loose and everything to gain for conservatism and our nation...everything! It’s all on the line and Newt understands that and has the plan to turn it all around.

It will take Gods intervention to move this primary where we need to have it go....not where some want it to go but where we need it to go.......the truth needs to be heard!

Look at Romney’s ratings when he left MA.

Look at Santorum’s defeat in PA.

Contrast with Newt’s record in the GOP:

- Newt ran for Congress and won in the middle of Watergate.

- Newt worked 16 years to help create a national majority for the GOP.

- 1980 – Newt helped design the first Capitol Steps event in history

- Newt won 6 U.S. Senate seats by a combined margin of 75,000 votes.

- Newt won the Senate when nobody thought He could and they said so.

1984 – Newt helped design a campaign that set a record.

1988 – Newt the party was behind Dukakis 19 points in May.

....Newt designed Reagan style campaign..If Bush had run as moderate, he’d have gotten beat. He ran as a Reagan conservative promising no new taxes and standing for national defense and attacking the Massachusetts liberalism of Dukakis. We switched 25% of the country. 1 in 4 voters during that campaign switched their view.
