Forced marriage: Girl aged five among 400 minors helped

A five-year-old girl is thought to have become the UK's youngest victim of forced marriage.

She was one of 400 children to receive assistance from the government's Forced Marriage Unit in the last year.

The figures have emerged as the public consultation into criminalising forced marriage in England, Wales and Northern Ireland comes to an end.

Amy Cumming, joint head of the Forced Marriage Unit, said 29% of the cases it dealt with last year involved minors.

"The youngest of these was actually five years old, so there are children involved in the practice across the school age range," she said.

To protect the child, the authorities have not disclosed details of the case or where the marriage took place.

It is probably a waste of time to ask this, but lets not slam just on Islam. This is a wrong, no matter what religion it is done under. It is a cause and a group I believe in and support, and since they are in the news, one worth discussing.

I respect your wishes, but to leave out islam is to look away from the truth, I think your effort to help these folks is wonderful, but we cannot be so weak that we cannot point to what the issues are in the name of offending them...I know a few muslim folks and they have the same viewpoint, its mt religion don’t run it down, as I tell them I respect their right to believe as they wish..after years of talking we can speak honestly about the differences, I am brutal about Mohamm, and what I consider to be the lies that enslaved a billion souls without God being at the end of the tunnel, and he says Christianity is fake, I have enjoyed the honest brutal discussions...we have to be honest to solve the issues...oh well..

Such infantile reasoning. He didn't invent Islam in order to do that. He did that because it was standard practice throughout his world, as it was throughout most of the world throughout most of human history. See other chapters at the same site. The author's attempt to explain Christian theology in terms of his basic thesis is pretty tortured, but the references are plentiful to support the descriptions that show the good old days weren't very good.

I don't doubt for a minute that "every culture has these scum". I read of babies still in diapers being raped, right here in our own country but it isn't encouraged, normalized by a religion, or socially approved of and it's illegal.

Yes, I know that it is fairly common in Thailand to have child prostitutes and they have plenty of customers from all over the world, at that I believe it's still illegal even there. Maybe the laws aren't enforced enough though.

I'm talking about a religion that teaches or approves of a 5 year old being forced to marry. There may be another that I don't know about but Islam is the only one I can think of off hand and forced marriage of children is what this article speaks of.

Sex with children is illegal in Thailand. The trade mostly exists because of tourists who go there for that purpose.

Pedos flock to organizations where they can get easy access to children. Public schools, churches, boy scouts, etc. They actually organize a molestation ring and protection amongst themselves once they infiltrate. It can be national or international. Sometimes they create service organizations for children so they can get access to and molest children as occurred at Penn State.

This does not mean the churches are evil by nature. Evil attacks the organizations that serve the ideals of Christ through the children. It’s awful.
