(kind of a freak show in some parts, but we all were once captives of the world)
There is a scene at the end of the movie "Idiocracy", where they are going on a ride called the "Time Masheen" which tries to explain history......at the time it was hillarious, but now, it's scary to think how close to reality it actually is.

"But then an even greater force emerged, the UN (pronounced 'un')"

In Heinlein’s excellent book ‘Starship Troopers’, only a very select few who have proven themselves thoroughly loyal are given the right to vote. With the sheer ignorance that permeates our society today, I would be in favor of restricted voting rights for people who can pass a basic civics exam, similar to the one that naturalized citizens must take in order to vote.

It shocks me, and I cannot understand it, when I see Jews--of all people!--advocating the very things that enabled Hitler and his Nazis to seize power. Diane Feinstein, who I think is Jewish, is a strong advocate of gun control. And a famous and apparently intelligent Jewish film maker was recently quoted as saying that (I paraphrase) President Obama could achieve great things if he were given dictatorial powers--I think he stipulated for a limited period of time. Don't they understand "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”
But what am I saying? Members of my own family--some of whom are highly intelligent--are of the same mindset.
Intelligence is highly selective. We're all like idiots savants: intelligent in some ways, shockingly unintelligent in other ways.
