SACRAMENTO – California has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Arizona's tough immigration law, saying it would drive illegal immigrants into other states. The Arizona law, passed two years ago, has been largely blocked by court order because of legal challenges. Among other things, it makes in a crime to be in the country illegally and to seek work.

The U.S. Supreme Court has scheduled an April 25 hearing, and a ruling is expected in June.

California Attorney General Kamala Harris has joined 10 other states in asking that the Arizona law be overturned. The other states are New York, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont.

In documents filed Tuesday, Harris said the law exceeds state authority, conflicts with national policy and would drive illegal immigrants into other states.

"There are currently millions of undocumented immigrants living in the United States," the brief states. "The apprehension, detention, and removal of these immigrants necessarily implicates the rights, liberties, and personal freedoms of human beings. Most of these undocumented immigrants...

Well, sounds like the AZ law is helping them meet their goal - they should be thanking them.

Don't be silly. That would be rational.

It was all over the radio newscasts here in AZ yesterday. The number of illegals here has dropped by a couple hundred thousand, and the lament is it’s hurting our economy since all these people aren’t here to buy stuff and contribute to the economy.

Guess they went to Ca to help there instead.

sanctuary cities

There it is ... a reality that's unconstitutional.

If I were in the SC, I'd say ... Bring it on.

“,,,, they ought to straighten out their own house first ,,,, and mind their own damned business .”

California lost that fight years ago, when the Democrats, the GOP-e, and one judge conspired to kill Prop 187.

LOL.

That's right; when you have the Orkin Man treat your house for Cockroaches, they scramble to inhabit the next-door neighbor. Tough to get ALL the cockroaches, unless the WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD is fed up with them "squatting", and partaking of "Los Freebies".

A crack in the wall. It sounds like California is becoming tired of being overrun with illegal aliens! LOL! Sorry California! It’s OUR law!

Turn about is fair play... Arizona should ask the U.S. Supreme Court to not only uphold, but insist that CA follow Arizona’s tough immigration law, saying it would drive illegal immigrants back to their home lands.

I'm sure AZ has a whole laundry list of complaints about CA. After all, the states surrounding CA are suffering with the escapees who settle there and try to Californize their new surroundings.

That’s the point Cali, and then YOU’RE supposed to enact tough laws and so on and so on for other states, and then illegals go home and stay there. Attrition.

"SACRAMENTO – California has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Arizona's tough immigration law, saying it would drive illegal immigrants into other states."

Typical California logic.

Does the endless sunshine actually bake people's brains?

It never occurs to those brain-cooked robots to enact Arizona's law for California.

Maybe they smoke so much pot in Sacramento that the legislators can't help inhaling cannabinol, but who elects these morons?

So... does California want illegal aliens or don’t they?

"Normal, law abiding, right thinking, conservative Californians want no such thing."

Everybody knows that, Tiger, but the Neanderthals have taken over the Golden State and filled it with abnormal, law breaking, Leftists who do.

Back in the '90s, I worked hard to save the Golden State. I put up "Vote Republican" signs all over the place. In San Francisco they stayed up. In Marin County, they were jerked down as soon as I put them up--even when I put them up in inaccessable but visible places in the middle of the night!

My California children--I am very proud to say!--are normal, law abiding, right thinking, and conservative! In fact--all my children are!

“So... does California want illegal aliens or don’t they?”

Politicians and businessmen who employ them in preference to Americans want them.

Plain old Californians like me want them sent packing.

SoCal used to be American suburbia. It transformed into a graffiti-scarred gang-ridden crowded colony of Mexico in a very short amount of time, and it couldn’t have occurred without the help of Democrats and the Dubya/ Karl Rove wing of the GOP.

How Stupid...How Foolish...How Ignorant...

With all the problems we have, California begins a Cold War between the states, how long before we are no longer One Nation. This cold war could become hot and it would be the deadliest, most tragic war in all human history.

One may say this could never happen, but recently I’ve seen so much, I previously thought could never happen.

I remember when two other members of that scumbag wing, Bill Bennett and Jack Kemp, lobbied for the defeat of Prop 187, which nevertheless passed convincingly and was then simply discarded with a shrug by the rats and then by Arnold. That proposition was passed in 1994 and was actually (and accurately) named the "Save Our State" initiative. Oh well... Party over oops, out of time.

Buh-bye, California.

They actually are trying to force Arizona into supporting their own immigration policies with this suit. That take the sort of balls only a liberal has.

Are they actually admitting that the existing, watered-down remaining portion of the law is really working in AZ?
