Civil rights leaders condemn Sharpton's call for escalated civil disobedience

SANFORD, Fla. - The Rev. Al Sharpton said Friday his National Action Network will "move to the next level" if George Zimmerman is not arrested in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Sharpton called for an escalation in peaceful civil disobedience and economic sanctions, although he did not say what those sanctions might be.

Turner Clayton, the Seminole County chapter president of the NAACP, reacted immediately to Sharpton's warning, saying, "We hope that the citizens of Sanford will govern themselves accordingly. We are not calling for any sanctions, against any business or anyone else. And, of course, what Rev. Sharpton does, that's strictly the [National] Action Network. We can't condone that part of the conversation, if that's what he said."

“There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs-partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays.

Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.

Man, when Sharpton even embarrasses the NAACP, that’s bad.

Washington was a very humble chap, who believed in letting merit open doors for people. Which it did when he was called on to present his scientific research about new uses for the peanut — initially snubbed, so the story goes, by being limited to ten minutes, he spoke for ten minutes, only to have the audience demand more, and more, until he had spoken for two hours.

Why doesn’t the activist do something to focus on the black mans plight of failure and start with it’s eradication?

Pity that sedition and treason are for all practical purposes LEGAL in the United States NOW....

Sharpton and Jackson “rope-A-dope” the charge of sedition all the time..
And others are encouraged to do it too..

Like Travon Martin they should be shot like rabid dogs..
As one US Congress woman put it.. what was that witchs name?..

That is not his job.
His job is to guide the black population into being
pliable and socially reliable elements.
Any rage is directed at the white oppressors and for now
the more rage the better.
“They’re trying to take away the first black president,
are we going to let them get away with that?” etc.

I think it was George Washington Carver who found at least 300 uses for the humble peanut...

The University of Alabama is in Tuscaloosa, and was founded in 1831, before Booker T. Washington was born.

Washington founded Tuskegee Institute, now Tuskegee University, in 1881.

Thank you

I was thinking of the WWII flyers from there...

Booker had to fight his “own people” to even start that school...

BTW “Trayvon” would not have got into that school...

They were particular about personal behavior and educational ambition...

Lil Tray seems to have lacked a bit in those areas...
