The article at the link, along with that flattering photo, were above the fold on USA Today in the paper machine where I got dinner. The big, bold type read: "If y'all come to get me, bring body bags," while the subtype said something about the "Rise in Anti-Government" something or other.

Just a few years ago, "dissent" was "patriotic."

Now it's extreme.

The rapid growth, according to the law center, has been fueled by a collision of factors, from the troubles related to the struggling economy and foreclosure crisis to the election of President Barack Obama, the nation's first Black president. Obama's election prompted a "backlash" from extremist groups
Yes, that's it, Media.

Mods, if I didn't do this right, can you simple make the edit instead of trashing the whole thing and banning me?

disclaimer to the Feds: I do not own fatigues, have an underground hideaway, or support insurrection.

But the portrayal of this! Standing there waiting for my flounder, I looked at that and felt guilty just for being a patriot.

And about insurrection: why are these pigs running pieces like this when the New Black Panthers is putting bounties on people and celebrities like Al Sharpton get TV time to call for an "escalation in civil disobedience?"

Praytell?

"What he said was this: 'If y'all come to get me, bring body bags,' " said Thomas, now a local justice of the peace. Thomas remembers the message clearly, not because of its unvarnished threat, but because -- after 12 years -- Gray, who doesn't acknowledge the authority of any government, continues to dare police to come and get him. Sequestered on a 50-acre, wooded compound in eastern Texas since jumping bail more than a decade ago, Gray and his clan have effectively outlasted the administrations of four local sheriffs, all of whom have decided that Gray's arrest is not worth the risk of a violent confrontation. "The risk of loss of life on both ends is far too great," said Anderson County District Attorney Doug Lowe, who first sought to prosecute Gray involving a Christmas Eve 1999 assault on Texas Trooper Jim Cleland. "I believed it then; I still feel that way." The stalemate, perhaps the longest-running standoff in the U.S. between law enforcement and a fugitive living in plain sight, is also emblematic of what the FBI believes is a troubling re-emergence of an anti-government movement that vaulted to notoriety in 1995.

Very interesting.

Ya know, I run into people who've lost it all, or most of what they'd worked for decades for. To be honest, some of these people just no longer give a damn about dying, or little of anything else. Calling them extreme is an understatement.

Pissed off to the core, with boiling contempt, would be a much better description.

The unbelievable actions of the leaders of the land in the past week lead me to believe they are trying to bring it to a confrontation.

Shades of "Gideon's Trumpet" (Colson).

I understand and agree.

However, those you mentioned harbor fabricated, phony anger, in an attempt to gain unquestioned power/money, personal gain etc.

My point was, there are lots of people in the U.S. today, who've been pushed way too far and are simply not going to take it anymore, regardless of consequences.

Every time I read a thread like this one, the first thing that pops into my head is, "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose..."

There's a lot of freedom seeking on the horizon.

The "lyrics" in question seem more closely to follow this, from Dylan's "Positively Fourth Street:"

Go to him now, he calls you, you can't refuse...

When you ain't got nuthin you got nuthin to lose...

You're invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal...

How does it FEEEEL?!

John Joe Gray with his son, Timothy, and daughter, Ruth, at their compound last week. For more than 11 years, they have lived on a 47-acre strip of Trinity River bottomland, about 100 miles southeast of Fort Worth. Photo: Joyce Marshall, Fort Worth Star-Telegram / HC

For 12 years now, he has refused to be taken alive and in a long-ago letter to authorities, the family warned officials to "bring extra body bags," if they come for him. Authorities kept tabs on the compound for months but haven't maintained an active presence for years.

Grey holds the Quran, which he later burned

Gray is wanted by Texas authorities for allegedly assaulting a police officer. During an altercation at a traffic stop, he allegedly tried to take a state trooper's pistol and bit him.

But Gray, a deeply devout Christian, was already well-known to law enforcement by then for his different -- even extreme -- views of government. He believes government has taken away too many of his God-given rights.

"I've put out literature about the new world order and what's going on," Gray said in an interview with ABC News in 2000. "And I've done that for years down there. And I think I upset a few people. They didn't like it."

Authorities believe Gray might be capable of acting on those views.

I'm more confident they want his assets, land and anything else they can confiscate.

It's what government does as a matter of routine.

Just kidding about the rabies of course.

A lot of folks, not everybody by any means, would look at this guy and say “dangerous kook, but as long as he stays where he is he can’t harm very much.” Others would sympathize, including a whole lot of freepers. And who knows what the local sheriff wants. That might be someone with integrity or it might be another Buford T. Justice type.

Brings to mind the “Chicken Man” in Georgia. He caught hell and harassment for raising chickens on his property from the “law”.

He finally had enough; was facing foreclosure (I don’t know all the details) and just the other day, blew his house up.

He was the only one hurt.

More of these “statements” are going to be made.

Obama puts restrictions on public pools for wheelchair access?
He doesn’t give two sh*ts for people-—he wants little poor black/white/hispanic children to burn in the heat of the summer with no relief so that riots start.
This is his plan.

The only ‘bunker’ on the property is for the seven children. It is clearly marked with a large red sign stating "kids." This has been done to protect the children so than none will be killed. The 10 adults plan on staying above ground and defending the property. John Joe Gray has stated that he will protect his property unto death and that his back has been pushed against the wall."

Interesting link.

Heck, even the use of the word "compound" is somewhat prejudicial. A guy's got a nice house on some property where he and his family can live on their own and it's a "compound"? That word is used by the government so that when they raid it with pseudo-military armored vehicles and snipe the inhabitants, all of the sheep in the US will just shut their eyes and think "Well, after all, it wasn't like it was just somebody's home, it was a compound."

Quite frankly, we should have been rioting after Ruby Ridge and Waco. Because we didn't, the government has gotten bolder and more oppressive, and the average LEOs have even more militarized hardware.

“Quite frankly, we should have been rioting after Ruby Ridge and Waco. Because we didn’t, the government has gotten bolder and more oppressive, and the average LEOs have even more militarized hardware.”

I’ve read about Ruby Ridge and was sicken by the story. Waco is a little more fuzzy a no doubt serous problem of an overaggressive government, but no where near as sick as the Ruby Ridge murders.

That being said in regard to your remark about rioting, Conservatives don’t riot, and liberals want to be subjects of the government.

There is nothing to be gained in a riot except mindless destruction of what is largely our own property. In the field of forceful resistance the only logical course of conservative is to wait until enough of them are motivated and organized enough as to kick the Government out.

Something that might never be possible owing to our own human scale limits and the enormous size of the overbearing government. Simply put the larger the government the larger the potential to divide and conquer.

You need to learn a lot more about Waco, then. Ruby Ridge pales in comparison, though both were murderous abuses of power. Look up M.O.V. E. in Philadelphia, Gordon Kahl in North Dakota, sometime, too. These have not been isolated events, but a syndrome.
