Did GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romneys political action committee violate state law by failing to report a $10,000 donation to the National Organization for Marriage just three weeks before the election to decide Californias Prop. 8?
Thats the charge from the Human Rights Campaign, the nations largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender civil rights organization, which Friday released previously undisclosed IRS documents from the National Organization for Marriage documenting the donation from the Romney PAC.
NOM, a group which like Romney, believes marriage is an institution between a man and a woman was a key player in backing Prop. 8, the 2008 landmark measure to outlaw gay marriage which was later passed by California voters.
The IRS 990 documents, obtained by HRC from a whistleblower, show a $10,000 donation from the Alabama-based operation of Romneys Free and Strong America PAC to NOM as it was engaged in the final weeks of the contentious California battle to pass Prop. 8. The document can be seen here.
Mitt Romneys funding of a hate-filled campaign designed to drive a wedge between Americans is beyond despicable, said HRC President Joe Solmonese. Not only has Romney signed NOMs radical marriage pledge, now we know hes one of the donors that NOM has been so desperate to keep secret all these years.

This is a plus for Romney, he should tell them Obama agrees with him on the issue and people are allowed to donate to political positions they agree with, that’s America.
Romney gave to which side? Oh, well, I guess he’ll be on the other one tomorrow.
Baloney. IRS 990 forms are available at guidestar.org
