Mitt Romney won the Republican primary in Wisconsin Tuesday night, after earlier sweeping primaries in Maryland and the District of Columbia, Fox News projects. The big night for Romney does serious damage to chief rival Rick Santorums underdog campaign while adding significantly to the front-runner's already imposing lead.

Here are the latest results from the Wisconsin primary:
Mitt Romney 281,929 42.5% 27
Rick Santorum 249,877 37.7% 6
Ron Paul 77,597 11.7%
Newt Gingrich 40,264 6.1%
Others 13,533 2.0%
He didn’t get 50%... that is good news.
43.8% tea party vote voted AGAINST Romney.
Romney takes all 42 Wisconsin delagates (narrowly)
Newt has pretty much quit the race. Even Ru-Paul nearly doubled his vote total. All Newt is doing is dividing the conservative vote. Its time to make a deal with Rick and stop Romney!
Romney is the Cod Liver Oil candidate. They say it will be good for you, and some will hold their nose and take it. However, there's a good percentage that will flat out refuse, no matter what.
He got 30, Santorum got 6 according to CSPAN
There is a pronounced urban/rural split, which is consistant with other midwestern states.

I thought WI was a winner take all state. I am wrong. Thank you for correcting me.
I think MD is the winner take all state.
I listened to as much of Mitt’s speech as I could stand, and he praised 3 presidents - LBJ, FDR, and Lincoln.
The winner takes all makes no sense to me.
Once again, the straight vote (Santorum + Gingrich) beats the Slick Willard vote. Outrageous.
Just wait until he praises Zero throughout the Fall campaign. Can you say “fixed” ?
Thanks for the results.
Bet Romney wishes he did as well as Santorum did in Louisianna, when Santorum won by 25 points, I believe.
Romney isn't my preferred candidate but I can't root for Obama like some Freepers.
“Romney is the Cod Liver Oil candidate. They say it will be good for you, and some will hold their nose and take it. ..”
Too many voters did the same thing with McCain, and look what happened. Will Republican voters ever learn?
But there’s still time for them to wake up, but they better hurry up.
Everyone I know voted for Rick Santorum in the IL Primary and Romney won big time!
Sorry to say this but Mittens has it wrapped up, if NY and CA don't go for Mittens I'll eat crow, but if it comes down to Mittens and Zero. I met Zero.
I met Obama in the summer of 2005, my mother was still alive at the time and I called her and told her that I met the next President, and I think this guy is the most evil person I've met.
My mom passed away in September of 2008. She suffered for 10 years surviving pancreatic cancer, as miserable and sad I am she is not around, I'm glad she isn't enduring the reign of this tyrant.
My mother meant everything to me, she was a right wing conservative died suddenly of a heart attack, when I was 25. She'll never see me get married, have kids, live a wonderful life, but she died as a conservative at heart!
If I sat out this election I would be spitting on my mother's grave. I would vote for Hillary, CM Punk, The Rock, John Edwards Mistress, Bob Barker, Charlie Sheen's hooker, Brad Pitt or even the corpse of Andrew Jackson before I would vote for Obama.
I've met him in person, I have his autograph, I talked to him a good 10 minutes one on one!!!
I voted Santorum but wouldn't hesitate voting Mittens over this tyrant.
I really need to specify, if you have not met Barack Obama in person, you cannot fathom how evil this man is when you gaze into his eyes.
That’s me! I’ll stay home!
The Magic Mormon is now in position to re-elect the Magic Negro.
Romney is the underwhelming candidate.
In Wisconsin just over 40 percent support and even in liberal Maryland he couldn’t break past 49 percent.
Most Republican voters don’t want Mitt Romney....
Now that Romney’s practically anointed, does this mean he will start moving toward the center for the general election? He doesn’t have much room to maneuver there. Maybe a millimeter.
It would certainly help if he’d move hard to the right instead.
Republican Candidates could improve their Primary vote count by campaigning with the following idea:
Due to the FHA, Fannie and Freddie Bankruptcies of September, 2008, American home owners lost 30 % of the value of their homes. That is a 30 % cut in just one month. Home values are still down 30 %.
Thus, let us cut the total compensation to all elected Federal politicians, and their staffs by 30 %, and an additional 10 % cut to elected Federal politicians each year until Federal Spending is LESS THAN the average of the previous 2 years of Federal income.
BTW, since slightly less than half of the US House, and 2/3 of the US Senate are Millionaires, it will be a great opportunity for Congress to lead by example that EVERYONE should give up their fair share of the American Dream.
What better way can there be to demonstrate that Federal politicians are on the same page as the voters?
Wow, Dengar. You actually gazed into the eyes of true evil.
You can see it in pictures of him but in person, those dark rageful eyes must be piercing and frightening.
When I first heard Bamster give the speech at the DNC convention, I turned to whomever I was with and said “There’s the next President”.
They laughed at me but I knew..I just knew.
On principle, I won’t be casting a ballot for Mittens, however. I have voted for my last Rino and despite what people are telling me, I will not be the one responsible for Romney’s defeat in November.
If Hussein gets reelected it will be partly because of the stupidity of the GOP-E who by nominating a candidate devoid of a core and honor, have lost party members like me.
But mostly it will be due to a repeat of that illiterate segment of the voting electorate, the drones, exercising their “rights” one more time to reelect a Marxist/Socialist dictator who has made no attempt to hide his intentions to destroy our country.
God help us all.
Oh, and bless your wonderful Conservative mother and you for your devotion to her.
But there is also information in the Exit Polls that there were 4% Democrat crossover prank voters who tried to upset Romney by voting for Santorum. This sounds valid, because before the vote, Romney had a solid 8 point lead for over a week.
You weren't listening closely. He listed those as presidents Obama had compared himself favorably to.
You are condemning the evil of Obama,(Which is true) as well as predicting him destroying our country, yet you will not vote if Romney is the nominee because you refuse to be a part him losing in November, because if there are enough of your kind of fool who refuse to vote because you claim to have “Principle's”, that in itself guarantees that Obama will win. (And you will claim you had nothing to do with it.)
Denial is just another form of insanity and you have it bad!
Yes, but Romney implied that Obama had no business comparing himself to such “great” presidents. I believe he even said something about all the good things LBJ had done.
But you're gonna go ahead and sit this one out, right?
Your loud mouthed attacks on everyone and anyone here at FR who stands up for their priniciples...is disgusting..and so are you.
Don’t you have anything to do, Psycho? Like a job? Or do you prefer to sit at your computer in your mother’s basement in your wife beater with oatmeal dribbling down your chin..and lash out anonymously at those who don’t agree with you.
This is a free country. I’ll vote for whomever I want..or not.
And I do more for Conservative efforts in one day that you have probably done in your lifetime.
No, I will vote for in all the other races except POTUS.
Well, we tried. It was a good show, a fair 2nd place.
Thank you to all Newt supporters in WI who voted for Santorum to stop Romney. That was very decent of you. I know the voting doesn’t show the true value of Gingrich but the hard fight against Romney. So, thanks. That was wise.
Let’s keep fighting. Give Santorum a big home state win before May when we return to the South.
The “purists” NEVER understand how ridiculous they sound. It’s a cult of self, and how others perceive it is just beyond their ability to comprehend. If caring about others, much less what others thought, was a priority then we wouldn’t have them handing the car keys to obama for another four
After referring to Obama as "true evil" and a "a Marxist/Socialist dictator who has made no attempt to hide his intentions to destroy our country" you will not vote for his opponent?
I assume you don't have children because I can't imagine anyone who cares about the future nation that their children will inherit not doing everything in their power to prevent Obama's second term. But, hey, you've got principles after all! Principles that clearly take priority over denying a second term to perhaps the most destructive president this nation has ever suffered.
Amen Drew - you get it perfectly. I pray more and more do as November approaches.
I wouldn’t call the results ‘narrowly’....especially in an ‘open primary’
From Michael Barone:
Santorum WI vote boosted by Democratic crossovers
Wisconsin, like my home state of Michigan, doesnt have party registration. Any registered voter can walk into the polls and vote in either the Republican or Democratic primary. In 2008 there were serious contests in both parties in Wisconsin. In 2012 theres a serious contest only in the Republican primary. According to the exit poll, 30% of Republican primary voters identified themselves as Independents and 11% as Democrats. Among self-identified Democrats, Rick Santorum beat Mitt Romney 37%-19%. That amounted to a Santorum popular vote majority of 2% of the total vote. You might want to keep that in mind in interpreting the statewide percentage. Among self-identifed Republicans, Romney won 51%-37%. That’s pretty conclusive about what Republicans want.
Rino GOP-E Playbook 101:
Guilt your members into voting for OUR CHOICE..the heir apparent, Mittens Romney. and be sure to have your topdog Paul Ryan stand next to him at a sub shop and hand out free subs to voters with that plastic smile and robotic handshake as a draw. “Nice ta meet ya”!!
I am a Conservative activist. I will not vote for a self serving, phony, unscrupulous, soul-less Massachusetts liberal bishop who couldn’t give a rat’s arse about the Tea Party or Conservatives. The party has abandoned me and until they come around to supporting true Conservatives, I won’t be back.
And no, it won’t be my fault if Obama beats Mittens. Most unknowing party lemmings will do as they are told. The GOP-E will need look no further than the end of their own noses if things don’t go their way in November.
And yes, I have four children and six grandchildren. And I have taught them about core Constitutional principles and American exceptionalism...that THEY are responsible for their own lives..And that they should not put their hopes for their own survival or happiness into the hands of ANYONE. The power lies with THEM, ie WE THE PEOPLE.
This is OUR country and WE will decide.
You are giving Obama way too much power. Work to help take back the Senate like I am and you’ll be doing more good for your children and their children’s future than anything.
We still live under a system of checks and balances. If we have a solid GOP House and Senate, that’s real power to roadblock the Usurper.
Now if I didn't have Zero's auto on the back of the ticket no one would believe me! I think I have a good sense of discernment. Because after flicking off hippie protesters in the parking area I called my mom and told her I met the next President and he is a bad bad guy.
Aura, whatever you want to say, when I shook his hands I got shivers, not the "thrill up your leg" it was the shivers when you are generally scared.
“Romney is the underwhelming candidate.
In Wisconsin just over 40 percent support and even in liberal Maryland he couldnt break past 49 percent.
Most Republican voters dont want Mitt Romney....”
That’s right, and even out of the Republicans, who DID vote for Romney in the primaries, many of them voted for him because they mistakingly think he’s the one who can beat Obama.
“There is a pronounced urban/rural split, which is consistent with other Midwestern states.”
And I’ll bet ya both a doughnut that in the heavy-blue areas of our state, the Dems crossed over and voted a straight Pubbie ticket just to pump up Governor Romney. You can vote either party in a primary like this in our state.
They’re devious that way...
