As Connecticut state senators gear up to vote on the high-profile death penalty repeal bill, Dr. William Petit said he believes that those who commit the most heinous crimes should be given the ultimate punishment.
"We believe in the death penalty. It's the only just punishment. What about the forgotten people, people tortured? They have no voice," said Petit whose wife and two daughters were murdered in their Cheshire home in 2007.
In the hours before the afternoon Senate session, Democrats proposed an amendment establishing harsh prison conditions for inmates who would have been candidates for the death penalty - an apparent effort to win over Republicans who have expressed skepticism of the legislation.
The amendment announced by Williams would separate inmate housing, allow only non-contact visitation and mandate cell movement every 90 days to replicate conditions on death row.
"This is a severe and certain punishment. This does almost exactly mirror the conditions for those prisoners on death row," Williams said.

God bless Dr. Petit and his family. He should up his practice and leave the forsaken state and libs of CT.
The Liberals response: *Yawn*
Someone gets the death penalty after being convicted of killing and raping children then all of a sudden Liberals get all upset
Liberalism truly is a mental disease and Liberals truly are just flat out evil people
Actually, I think he retired from practice. I read in the months after tragedy, he spent most of his time in bed.
This must be a wonderful woman he married because he is dealing with a lot of emotions i am sure.
