The U.S. Senate race in New Mexico remains tight between former Republican Congresswoman Heather Wilson and two potential Democratic opponents.
A statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters finds Democratic Congressman Martin Heinrich picking up 46% of the vote against Wilson who draws 42% support. Seven percent (7%) prefer some other candidate in the race, while six percent (6%) are undecided.

Heather Wilson is approximately a 50/50 chance at winning. Her voting record in Congess is nothing great, but it’s acceptable and far better than either of the DemocRATS who are running.
By and large in my opinion, Wilson would be a better person to hold the seat; but on the stuff coming up, the votes would be indistinguishable.
Wilson had an opportunity once to singlehandedly do away with the federal regulation requiring those vile low-flow toilets, but went with the opposition.
On the other hand, Heinrich makes Obama look conservative.
Wilson is about as conservative as the last GOP Senator except on abortion.
That may not be great but it’s hardly “indistinguishable” from Heinrich .
She wants to be an establishment Republican and was groomed and put in place by one of the kingpins of that following (whose name I will not mention, but everybody knows).
The problem with Heather is her reputation in NM. As a âFree New Mexicanâ living in exile I remember her nickname was âFeatherâ Wilson. She is a light weight. As a congressmen, you never heard from feather until election. She never discussed issues she was strong on like defense and security, but would run ads on touchy feely issues. I guess she was weak with the women vote. I also think the RAT criticism of her is accurate that she just wants to to live in Washington, D.C.
