As the 2012 election campaign approaches phase two – when the major-party candidates have been selected and begin to square off – there is an unmistakable lack of ideological and political unity within the Christian community. A new national survey by the Barna Group among likely voters indicates that there are substantial differences across a wide spectrum of Christian subgroups, with only a one segment unwavering in its commitment to defeat President Obama in November.
In the first of those contests Barack Obama and Mitt Romney were of equal appeal to all voters, with Mr. Obama holding a 52% to 48% edge, which falls within the range of statistical error attributable to sampling. However, the study found that a much greater share of Mr. Romney’s support was lukewarm.
In a match-up between Mr. Obama and Rick Santorum, the outcome was another draw (Santorum 51%, Obama 49%).
One of the most striking changes emerging from the new study is that if evangelicals wind up supporting the eventual candidates in November in numbers consistent with their current preferences, Mr. Obama will receive double the support from the evangelical community he garnered four years ago (22%).
Protestant and Catholic voters have distinct leanings in this year’s race. Catholics currently favor Mr. Obama, regardless of which Republican he faces in November. Obama 56%, Romney 44% Obama 52%, Santorum 48% Obama 60%, Gingrich 40%
If the election were held today, among skeptics Mr. Obama would defeat Mr. Romney 70% to 30%; Mr. Santorum by a 73%-27% clip; and Mr. Gingrich by 74% to 26%.

I sincerely hope that the "powers that be" in the party get the message that mainstream, vanilla, middle-of-the-road candidates can NOT win election's against the liberal Democrat, Socialist machine that is in operation today. They have done a much better job convincing the general public that they have THEIR best interests in mind - something we KNOW is far from the truth. But it is going to take a strong and charismatic leader to turn the tide and it looks like the Republican party is fresh out of them. God help us if America has Obama for four more years - we may NEVER recover. It is disheartening to read that any Evangelicals support Obama!
The lack of quality is a judgment upon America for “voting” God largely out.

As for liberal evangel votes increasing, its the latter days.
It's always been that way folks.
Even before the GOP began to pander to Evangelicals.
Remember that when SoCons threaten to ensure the defeat of a secular GOP candidate.
There is little, if any, difference in the voting patterns of Christians from the rest of the electorate.
I find that hard to believe.
I don't.... Many Evangelicals simply will not for Romney because he's a Mormon, thus Obama wins by default if they withhold their vote.
Further, Evangelicals have been "invaded" by false teachers and Preachers so it's no surprise they would also be mis-lead in who "else" they might support.
Additionally ...Healthy Preaching overall is lacking in many churches so the "flock" is not well fed...in many cases starving for truth because their Pastors are not themselves well fed.
..and the list can and does go on.
But then we were told these things would occur as that day approaches. ...even among our own...in fact directly spoken by Christ they would come from us.
It's already looking that way with the Primary going as it is. Right on the edge and Romney or Obama will take us over it.
I believe, sincerenly so, Newt is the best chance we've got to stop the crooks...he knows who they are, what they hide behind, and he has the tools to dig them out. Unfortunately we have a society that is so mixed now, those who do not understand our politics nor our country's history, who do vote...and are easily mis-lead.

Call them what they are: functional materialists, scientists, atheists, nihilists -- and cynics.
Meanwhile, Santorum gains a statistical tie with Obozo among Catholics, contrary to the author's statement.

Note that the 22% figure is what they say he would receive this time - which i also think is wrong and highly presumptuous - not what they gave in 2008.
Problem is most people had zero problem with voting for Reagan. A ton of people have issues voting for Romney. I just can’t do it. Talk about lowering my principles. With Romney, it would be voting for a Democrat which I don’t either.
What the Hell is wrong with everyone?! No where in my post did I say I support Romney now or will do so in the future.
Come Novemeber I will write in “Newt Gingrich” if he isn’t the official candidate.

I would definitely consider Allen West. I hope his political future remains bright.
