MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Eighteen men were arrested as part of a sex sting operation involving a public restroom in Manhattan Beach.

The lifeguard staff at the Marine Avenue headquarters originally noticed vandalism and what was called suspicious activity at the restroom and notified police. Lifeguards also noticed men frequently using and returning to the same bathroom, and some were loitering in the area as well as inside the restroom for long periods of time.

Officers set up surveillance at the restroom. Detectives also began monitoring several websites where discussions of the Marine Avenue bathroom were taking place. Based on the information gathered, investigators concluded that the public restroom was being used as a meeting place for sexual activity.

According to a radio report, police found holes drilled in the walls between the stalls. EWWWWWWWWWW! For those unfamiliar with the vernacular, they are referred to as "glory holes."

And of course if someone invades your privacy or harasses you, you cannot strike back at the sexual assault perpetrator the way a woman could do if approached by a stranger asking for sexual services in a public bathroom. That’s a “hate” crime.

I ran into something like this yeeeeears ago at Will Rogers State beach while I was in college. One morning during the summer I drove my Dad to the airport (so I would get to use his nicer car while he was away). It was really early and decided to drive back up the coast and stop at a beach for several hours. I picked Will Rogers at random. At first it appeared deserted, but every five minutes or so a different guy would interrupt my reading to ask if I had any suntan lotion. Eventually I noticed all these same guys going in and out of the restroom on a deserted beach, the parting slap on the butt as they came out of the building in pairs made me realize what was going on and that the entire beach was a homo pickup spot. So I got the hell out of there as fast as I could. I’ve never been back there since.

When I was a boy in Nashville TN, my school took us on a field trip to cedar hill park. While there a few of us went to the men's room, and there was this fat old man loitering in there, he asked us if we wanted a BJ, we were about 12 years old at the time, and didn't have a clue, but my instinct told me that something was definitely wrong.
