Gun Sales Booming: Doomsday, Obama or Zombies?

Buyers in record numbers are flooding into gun stores, retailers say. Ammo, too, is flying off the shelves. The reasons for the spike, last seen in 2009, include fears that a second Obama administration might restrict gun ownership and the popularity of TV shows devoted to doomsday preparation and killing zombies.
"He's never been pro-gun," says Cris Parsons of President Obama. Parsons, 31, owns a Texas gun purveyor called the Houston Armory. So far, Parsons insists, Obama has been "pretty coy" about his antipathy toward guns--and he likely will remain so during the campaign. To do otherwise would "upset a lot of people."

Everyone can “feel” that the time is short.
And people, based on their worldview, are assigning that feeling to something, anything, to make sense of it.
I really hope those in charge don’t try to “test” those who are buying guns and ammo in record quantities. It would get real ugly real fast.

I just figured out the “zombie” euphemism just recently.
It makes total sense, though.
Hoards of bipedal threats, coming to eat your “brains”.

There are more than a dozen manufacturers, says Parsons, making zombie riffles,... What are 'riffles'? Nice editing.

All I could figure about poster #51 was that s/he lives in a city, feels rather helpless about preparing for ANYTHING, and would rather we all just go away, shut up, and not remind him/her how totally screwed s/he is when the ‘shift’ happens.

Sounds like a good reason to buy another caliber.
Carry the .380, but get a 9mm or 40sw for home/zombie defense.
Also, you can, last I knew, get a surplus mosin nagant 7.62X54 for less than $100, and 500rds for about that as well.
Good zombie gun... :)

Key principle: one is zero, two is one.
Get more than one, of the same caliber, as a backup.
In an “after” situation, you can’t go to the gunsmith or get parts online.

Another reason I ‘wanted’ .308, but went .223.
$10 a box for Remington .223 55 gr UCM. Not exotic, but it’ll get the job done.
That and I know every family member can handle a .223 carbine.

” Sounds like a good reason to buy another caliber. “
12ga is perhaps the best all-around survival gun, with a wide range of special purpose ammunition available for hunting or fighting...
Two real advantages to the shotgun - first, it can be used effectively with a minimum of training and range time, and, second, the “break guns” (double or single barrel) can be home repaired (often with ‘found’ materials) instead of the specialized skills and parts, without which the ‘sexy’ guns become inefficient doorstops or paperweights when they break... ;)
After a youth spent watching my Western heroes fan their six-guns and crank off 100 rounds (without reloading) from their Winchesters, I was amazed to learn that “The Gun That Won The West” was the humble shotgun...
My .002 cents... ;)

Since the GOP is going to have control of Congress, could Obama outlaw private gun ownership through an executive order? I don’t think so since it would violate the 2nd Amendment and, thus, be unconstitutional.

I guess he’s talking about me. I just bought two AR-15s Monday and my buddy and I shot them for the first time today. I’ve also got 400 rounds of ammo coming for them in the mail. Last one on my shopping list is a Remington 700P in .308 with a really good scope on it. That’s going to have to wait until the bank account recovers from the ARs.

I carry a Ruger LCP 380 solely due to it’s size. My Kahr CW9mm was still a tad too big for me to carry comfortably everyday.
Yep, time to buy another piece (you see, this is what starts happening :)).
Shoot the 380 enough to stay familiar with it, but pick up something else to shoot at the range regularly.

As with many of my preps, they are incrimental. My SP101 is my current goto for immediate bump in the night defense. I have many other arms to fall back on.

I agree. My 45 ammo costs were painful. I was listening to a Gunny (good guy) with a
YouTube site. He was using CO2 pellet gun for practice.
Air Gun Depot is a great place to find both pump and CO2 rifles and pistols. I went with the
Beretta PX4 Storm. The refurbished models are $60 and the cartridges and pellets are very economical. The CO2 pistols are excellent for practice. I like the blow back action on the Beretta as a gentle reminder of safe handling.
I have also purchased a few of the break action air rifles. They are worth checking out for practice and varmint hunting. For a kick check out the
Gamo Hunter Extreme Air Rifle .25 cal- 730 fps w/3-9x50 IR A/O Scope. The break action is a little hefty on this one, but ammo is cheap and is competitive with powder. You won't break the bank stocking up with ammo.
