Obama, Romney agree: Admit women to Augusta golf club

WASHINGTON, April 5 (Reuters) - President Barack Obama believes women should be allowed to join the all-male Augusta National Golf Club, the White House said on Thursday, adding pressure on the exclusive 80-year-old organization to drop its restrictive policy.

"His personal opinion is that women should be admitted," White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters, saying he had spoken to Obama about the issue, as the prestigious Masters tournament got under way in Augusta, Georgia.

In a rare moment of agreement with Obama, Republican front-runner Mitt Romney, the Democratic president's likely opponent in the Nov. 6 election, said if it were up to him, "of course I'd have women in Augusta."...........

.....Obama's re-election campaign has made no secret of its efforts to court women voters, and his fellow Democrats have sought to depict the Republicans' focus on contraception and abortion as an attack on women's rights.

At a campaign stop in Pennsylvania, Romney took care not to give the Democrats any more ammunition.

"I'm not a member of Augusta. I don't know if I would qualify - my golf game is not that good - but certainly if I were a member and if I could run Augusta, which isn't likely to happen, but of course I'd have women in Augusta. Sure," he said.".....

This ridiculous distraction comes up every year right about when the “Masters” golf tournament takes place. Just one of those items leftists just love to pile on. Frankly Scarlett...

What the Hell is the President of the United States getting involved in this? I am so sick of it. Oh and Romney opening his trap just makes me even more disgusted at the thought of being forced to vote for him....not going to happen. I don’t know how many shots I am going to have to take in order to vote for him.....probably too many and I will be kicked out of the polling place for having an BAC of 100 percent. lol.

Mitt would have the perfect solution, since he’s Mormon. He would just invite dead women, problem solved.

It is normal for Communist to do away with any rights of private association.
The end of America.

So if women are allowed to join at Augusta, would it require renovations to the golf course itself or are there already ladies tees at every hole?

Looks like a lot of people are saying allow them in-I must be old-fashioned and see things much differently of this topic. Of course, Mitt will take a easy path. If they know the company is standing by rules, I'm supporting their decision but if there's evidence they are deliberately being sexist, I may rethink. Can't men have clubs and women have their clubs-why do we all have to be in each other’s activities all of the time. Let the same groups learn from one another. Let men be real men-don’t change them into liberal republicans. hehe.

I'm a woman...and really get sick of this cr**. Let the boys have their fun. You've already scr**** them on the smoking and drinking.

And I work in a male dominated profession....except they're not dominating...they've been great...

My grandaughter thought she was cool playing basketball with the boys..she was good....then the boys all grew 2 feet and gained 25 lbs. She looked in the mirror...and conceded....they'll kill me!!

She's playing girls lacrosse now.

I would describe the 2008 and 2012 elections as ‘fake’ for the most part....you end up with characters from both parties that you couldn’t really agree with.

Makes me sad too...still, as somebody on this board said awhile ago...I would vote for Elmer Fudd over Obama.

Romney=Elmer Fudd.

Mark Levin said that a reporter needs to ask the prez how many women he’s had golfing with him in the 90+ rounds he’s played while president.

Katie Couric crying about women being banned, also. Are men permitted in the Miss U.S.A. or Miss America contests? Didn’t think so. How exclusionary! How many whites, asians, or hispanics in the Congressional Black Caucus? None. How exclusionary! How about Curves health club? Women only. How about Spa Lady Fitness Center? Oops,,,women only. Lucille Roberts Health Clubs/Gyms? You guessed it. Exclusionary. Couric or obama complaining about The American News WOMEN’S Club? Nope. How about the Association For WOMEN Journalists? Not a peep. How about NewsWOMEN’S Club of New York? You kidding?
