The San Francisco bicyclist involved in a fatal collision with a San Bruno man could face criminal charges, and his flippant early account of the tragedy may not help his case in a city where bikes, cars and pedestrians must increasingly coexist.
Chris Bucchere collided in a Castro crosswalk March 29 with 71-year-old Sutchi Hui, who ultimately died Wednesday at San Francisco General Hospital.
In an online missive posted just hours after the crash, Bucchere expressed little remorse for his behavior. His irreverent account focused instead on his broken helmet, his own relatively minor injuries and the police seizure of his bike.
It was commuter hour and it was crowded as all getup, Bucchere wrote. I couldnt see a line through the crowd and I couldnt stop, so I laid it down and just plowed through the crowded crosswalk in the least-populated place I could find.
Bucchere did express hope that Hui ends up OK, but he spent far more energy praising his own headgear.

So he was obviously going to fast for conditions which resulted in the death of the man. manslaughter
A guy in the Castro who only thinks of himself.....how rare.
This bicycling fool just scrooood himself and can look forward to spending thousands on lawyers and maybe (God willing) getting some jail time in a place where he will be considered “pretty”
And what makes you think you are entitled to a line through a crowd of pedestrians, you narcissistic, typically over-aggressive bicyclist POS.
Its that type of mentality that makes me HATE bicyclists. Hopefully this schmuck does some hard time.
A pedestrian is to a bicyclist as a cyclist is to an SUV and as an SUV is to a tractor-trailer.
I couldnt see a line through the crowd and I couldnt stop..."
How the hell fast was he going that he couldn't stop when he had time to search for a gap in the stream of people?
Not only that, it was a cross walk filled with pedestrians. YOU STOP. Period.
In San Francisco many downtown intersections are controlled by stoplights with an all red overlap. The "accident" occurred at such an intersection.
At stoplight controlled intersections, pedestrians are not allowed in the crosswalks until they have the green (walking man) signal.
The fact that the crosswalk was filled with pedestrians indicates that Mr Bucchere was much later entering the intersection than he admits and the light was red for him well before he entered the intersection as pedestrians are unable to move quickly enough to fill the entire crosswalk the moment the light turns green for them.
Bucchere was going way too fast and had complete criminal disregard for the pedestrians.
was he riding a track bike? he should have not been riding a bike w/o brakes on the public roads.
Vehicular manslaughter. Possible assault with a deadly weapon (his helmet).
Can I get an amen?
It appears that the person killed in this incident may have been of Asian ancestry. Could this be considered a “hate crime?”
I am a cyclist.
I say he gets mansluaghter. With a maximum sentence due to his lack of remorse.
He is obviously a Dem.
...and let the family of Mr. Hui sue the heck out of him since it's unlikely he has any no fault "cyclist insurance".....
Judging by the remarks he left on that website, it sounds to me like the guy probably never even considered visiting the family to offer his sympathy...that makes him even more despicable.
All self-esteem and no empathy... where do they come from?
According to the liberal progressive moonbeam pecking order of protected groups in California, it is indeed, a hate crime.
Only if Bucchere was Black or Hispanic would it be impossible for him to commit a hate crime against an Asian.
Yeah, but you're pretty safe with that in San Francisco.
