A recount in the state House District 71 special election has been set for 9 a.m. Wednesday in Tulsa County District Judge Daman Cantrell's courtroom.
Democrat Dan Arthrell still leads Republican Katie Henke by three votes after Friday's examination of six provisional ballots increased both candidates' totals by two. Two of the ballots were ruled out because they were submitted in the wrong precincts in Tuesday's special election to fill an unexpired term.
As expected, a recount petition on Henke's behalf was submitted to the State Election Board secretary in Oklahoma City after the provisional ballots were counted.
"I feel that it is of the utmost importance, and I have an obligation to the voters of House District 71 to, as Ronald Reagan said, 'trust but verify' these results," said Henke.
"We always preach 'every vote matters,' " said state Republican Party Chairman Matt Pinnell. "Therefore, we must make sure every vote is fairly and properly counted in District 71 according to the law. Once the recount process is finished, we look forward to continuing our campaign to elect a common-sense conservative Republican to this seat in November."

An elected Democrat is getting to be a rare find in Oklahoma.
A little less rare in this case. District 71 was won in 2010 by Republican Dan Sullivan with about 60% of the vote. This would be a Rat pickup, for some reason.
