NIALL FERGUSON: This Is The Study That Shows Why The US Economy Is Doomed

A Harvard Business School study that Niall Ferguson pointed us to today shows the U.S. has fallen severely behind in terms of international competitiveness.

The study, from January, found that for Harvard alums personally involved in a company relocation decision, 57 percent said the decision "involved the possibility of moving existing activities out of the U.S."

Meanwhile, only 9 percent considered moving existing activities from another country into the U.S. "A U.S.-based respondent was three times as likely to be considering moving business activity out of the U.S. than a non-U.S. respondent was likely to be considering moving an activity into the U.S," writes Professor Michael Porter, the study's author.

The most interesting table from the study plotted current versus expected American industry sector global success.

No, you're not missing something: The respondents expect a decline in competitiveness for all sectors.

I’m not ignoring your post but I have to think about what you’ve said, and will send you a private reply.

Romney’s “Progressive” record as Governor of Massachusetts includes the following:

1. Implemented/created Gay Marriage in MA
2. Supported and forced Gay Adoption in MA
3. Supported Abortion wholeheartedly
4. Raised taxes/fees over 300% while being Governor of MA
5. Implemented a state-level Cap and Trade system.
6. Supported Man-Made Global Warming
7. Supported the Brady Bill
8. Implemented a state level “Assault” Weapons Bill after the Federal AWB was allowed to expire
9. Supported TARP
10. Supported Amnesty for Illegal Aliens (Citizenship for those already here)
11. Supported McCain-Kennedy(Amenesty)
12. Implemented a socialized medicine in MA called RomneyCare complete with an Individual Mandate and $50 abortions
13. Nominated 27 Democrats (out of 36 nominations) for judgeships in MA, many of them extreme left-wingers

Do you see number 13 above? That is reason alone to reject Romney for a true Conservative.

I think we pretty well have the police state part wrapped up already.

I never said he was a true conservative (or even a conservative). I just think that in this election, he is better than Obama by an order of magnitude (Obama would implement everything on that list for all 50 states. Romney only did it in Mass, an uber-leftist state where even the conservatives are pinkos!)

"Good luck with your project mayhem there."

It's not my default. The socialist political/regulator class will get all of the credit for it.

"Argentina went from one of the richest nations to what it is today. The “collapse’ comes quick, rebuilding can take hundreds of years. If ever."

Too bad that we didn't enforce the Monroe Doctrine. Some cultures build and rebuild faster than others.

"If there is a collapse, we won’t rebuild, we will fragment."

If we've become so Balkan in nature, that would be rough for those who currently depend on debt for their incomes directly or indirectly from government. There will be a collapse, BTW, unless favored constituents and their politicians are transformed overnight from being covetous spendthrifts.

China makes everything. We buy China stuff with borrowed money. That is our consumer economy.

How is that “free trade” working out for you?

Show this to all the “free traders”: “company relocation decision, 57 percent said the decision “involved the possibility of moving existing activities out of the U.S.”

Bernanke is the single worst Fed Chairman ever

Surely that honor goes to Greenspan who enabled this whole mess in the first place. Bernanke is just following in the master's track.
